The Ancestor of All Demons

Chapter 683: Tian Meng's Ascension

Chi You unleashed the Mixed Element Divine Ice, its power continuously expanding, forming a wave of Frozen Air from its center, perpetually spreading outward.

Even so, he was mindful of his subordinates, primarily using this to attack the Heaven's mirror projection in the sky. The spreading cold was restrained, otherwise, his Zhu Rong Warriors and demon beasts would struggle to survive, with only a few evil cultivators managing to stay alive.

Yet, the Frozen Air continued to invade southward, and in the blink of an eye, the inside and outside of the Great Wall were covered in heavy snow, and looking down from the sky, north of the Yellow River turned white at a visible speed.

Many immortals hurriedly cast spells to counter the cold, such as those from the Kunlun Sect setting up Thunder City to trap Jiang Xuejun, or Leng Yun Fairy alone confronting three demon humans around Zhangjiakou. However, they could only resist part of the cold surge as the chilling winds blew south over them.

Ancestor Xian Kong specialized in Cold Daoist Skills, possessing spells and magical treasures that could absorb cold.

Lei Qilong, from the Huashan Sect, had practiced several Fire Element Magical Treasures. Now, he couldn't afford to duel with the demon beasts and hurried back to cast spells to ward off the cold.

But his treasures were too weak—not inherently weak, just insignificant compared to Chi You's world-sweeping methods. A fan that could generate fire and a gourd that could spit fire could only produce flames reaching a hundred yards at most, totaling no more than a thousand flames; considered powerful in duels, but immediately extinguished by the surging cold wave.

The one most skilled with fire was the Shaoyang God Monarch, who had the best relationship with Huo Wuhai, always appearing together.

This time, Shi Feiyang's disciples, aside from the Yellow Mountain Sect, were all defending the Outer Heaven Divine Mountain. If they weren't, unscrupulous characters like Xuanyuan Dharma King might have gone to steal his home.

Xuanyuan Dharma King, having recently acquired the Zhunti Bowl and Mystics Yin True Water, as well as Evil Corpse Gu Chen's body, had not yet achieved Perfection in his cultivation. If he tried to raid now, Jin Xunu and others joining forces could still hold him off.

Following the conquest of Southern Border demons, Huo Wuhai and Shaoyang God Monarch split up, with Huo Wuhai taking many surrendered demon beasts to the Little Antarctic, while Shaoyang God Monarch helped Qingcheng Sect sweep away participating Gu Worms. His acquired Daoist Techniques were extremely effective against these flying insects, comparable only to the proficiency of Shilong Gu in needle techniques.

Feeling the fierce cold wave approaching from the north, Shaoyang God Monarch rushed northward, seeing the expansive cold wave Frozen Air sweeping across the land, he was momentarily despaired, fearing even the Bing Fire Spirit Snake nurtured in the Earth Fire Branch couldn't...

Before he reached the Yellow River, the world suddenly brightened. A look around revealed above the horizon three hundred sixty radiant "suns" rising!

At this time, Shi Feiyang had already used the Purple and Blue Duoluo Fire on his head to clear the ice sealing the Heavenly Treasure Mirror and used it again to activate the Emperor's Circulation Talisman on the Yellow Path.

The Golden Talisman simultaneously emitted light, forming three hundred sixty "suns" rising from all directions. Each "sun" emitted tens of thousands of beams of light and heat. There were suns not only to the south but also rising north, although the light and heat released weren't particularly intense, each was like a newborn morning sun, dispelling the Frozen Air cold wave created by Chi You like clearing morning dew.

These suns continued to rise from the Four Extremes and Eight Desolates to the zenith, gathering into a vast sun at the highest point of the "Heavenly Sphere," illuminating the entire Shushan World like daylight. Even the Long Night Island in the perpetual night of the North Pole was lit up, causing all beings and spirits to look up in either shock or excitement at the enormous sun wheel.

Shi Feiyang pointed his finger, adjusting the Heavenly Treasure Mirror toward the sun wheel, exhaling a breath of Immortal Energy, causing ripples over the Heavenly Mirror, which shot out a beam of golden light.

The Mirror Light shone upon the sun wheel, aiming to combine forces with Shi Feiyang to create a solar fire rain stretching thousands of miles to burn Chi You.

Chi You noticed this, roaring again as the Chaos Mysterious Ice emitted another stream of gray-black mist, which soared straight up, striking the sun wheel first.

Like a cannonball hitting the sun wheel, vast flames, golden light, and Frozen Air exploded in the air, scattering across the earth, reaching far west of Kunlun...

Shi Feiyang quickly pinched a seal with his left hand, pointing to the Heavenly Treasure Mirror, steadied his mind with the right hand, and used divine thought to pluck the Cave Spirit Zither. The zither sound was amplified by the Heavenly Mirror, and the Heavenly Sound instantly spread tens of thousands of miles, dispersing the falling light flames and Frozen Air in the sky to prevent subsequent disasters below.

Shi Feiyang went several rounds with Chi You, both amazed at the other's strength, far exceeding their previous expectations.

Shi Feiyang calculated that after Jiuhua Mountain, Chi You was merely a defeated foe. Even if he found a body to resurrect, he couldn't pose much of a threat. At most, he could muster some demon beasts, relying on numbers; he had so many Sword Immortals aiding him, plus a million demon soldiers summoned from the Outer Heaven Divine Mountain, easily enough to wipe out the enemy effortlessly.

Chi You, on the other hand, calculated that with the powerful spells and magical treasures he had cultivated, even if all his Zhu Rong demon beasts perished, it would still be easy to annihilate all humans in the Central Plains—Shi Feiyang was unbeatable, and no matter how many Huaxia Sword Immortals there were, they were just clay chickens and pottery dogs, vulnerable to a slight blow, at most escaping in defeat.

Both concealed their own destinies, striving to calculate the other's, while embedding further layers of deception. When they finally revealed their trump cards, each was taken aback.

It wasn't just them; none of the world's cultivators foresaw this outcome. From those cultivators already engaged in battle to the onlookers from afar, even Tian Meng Zen Master and Master Fen Tuo were secretly astonished; Shi Feiyang and Chi You's strength exceeded everyone's predictions.

Tian Meng Zen Master thought Shi Feiyang would easily vanquish Chi You, so he remained unmoved in the mountains, desiring no more than his previous life, wishing to ascend to Nirvana. He had lingered in the Human World for Xie Shan even longer than Bai Mei Zen Master had for Zhu Youmu. Now observing, although Xie Shan adhered to his teachings, cultivating arduously in the Human World, couldn't stifle his frustration.

It wasn't really Xie Shan's fault; with the Xie Wang Sect founded by Shi Feiyang and all the temples, scriptures, and stories crafted by him—what involved person wouldn't be infuriated by such tales?

Xie Shan, following what Zen Master Tian Meng said, used righteous skills to break evil skills, enlightening one person at a time...

Actually, enlightening people is not the goal, but a means to make him settle his heart, cultivate equality, and purify his mind, extinguishing inner troubles. If he can achieve this, enlightening one person can be success; if not, leading tens or hundreds of thousands into the Buddhist path is still useless.

Xie Shan also understood this principle, but seeing the temple enshrining statues of his whole family, especially the White Sheep Old Mother and Black Bull Tai Sui, he couldn't help but get angry! Seeing so many people kneeling and praying for the protection of the parents of Prince Xie, he couldn't suppress his anger any longer, only wanting to raise his hand and blow up the entire Sheep Mother Temple and Niu Gong Temple!

Zen Master Tian Meng knew Xie Shan understood all the principles, having cultivated for over a thousand years, with substantial real cultivation. Except for the last life, he cultivated Daoist techniques; at all other times, he cultivated Buddhist teachings, having long reached the stage of "unobstructed reason," meaning he could use Buddhist teachings to harmonize and explain any matter.

However, he still couldn't achieve complete "non-obstruction in matters," which means knowing the principle but not being able to do it.

In general matters, he could achieve non-obstruction, but not in the case of the Xie Wang Sect!

This became an invisible poison thorn stabbing hard into his heart, preventing his mana from advancing his realm despite continuous diligent progress over the years.

Just because of this thorn, he could not ascend!

Nirvana, Mituoduo Pure Land, this method was called the most convenient method, accommodating all three roots, accepting both the sharp and the dull.

Even the most dull, even an illiterate, as long as they could chant Amitabha Buddha, even if they mispronounced it as "radish cabbage," as long as their heart thought of Amitabha Buddha, they could chant to the point of skillful unbroken concentration, and during the last ten thoughts before death, if every thought was Buddha, they could still gain a position in the three classes and nine grades of rebirth, to see Buddha with blooming flowers in the West.

But Xie Shan couldn't; he could achieve ten thoughts, a hundred thoughts, a thousand thoughts, pure thoughts following one another, every thought being Buddha, yet he just couldn't reach Nirvana.

In this regard, he was not even on par with an illiterate rural old lady.

He was not convinced! But the more unconvinced he was, the harder it was to progress.

Zen Master Tian Meng was also helpless, having explained everything to him. He himself understood, did what was needed, but just couldn't see through or let go, unable to obtain freedom.

The Great Monk had no solution either; he was prepared to leave, watching the sunlight gather from the sky's dome, lacing the mountains and rivers with a layer of golden hue.

"Namo Amitabha Buddha!" Zen Master Tian Meng joined his palms, and in the sunlight, saw Western Amitabha Buddha arriving with the Lotus Pond Assembly Bodhisattvas to welcome him. He also ascended the lotus platform and departed.

Xie Shan, at this time, was in a town in Fujian, watching as throngs of villagers knelt to the ground, bowing to the sun and praying softly.

Due to long-term national advocacy, the name of the Nation Preceptor Master Yuan Yang spread among the populace, and many prayed to Master Yuan Yang.

Hearing this, Xie Shan's heart rose with resentment: That Evil Dragon caused me so much suffering, learning some heretical skills, yet dares to receive the worship of all people...

Usually, when villagers prayed to him, his heart was full of grievances, and during the hardest sufferings sometimes there flashed a fleeting thought of "wiping out these fools" for peace and quiet; of course, such thoughts were rare. Once arisen, they immediately vanished, and he repented before Buddha.

He knew such thoughts were wrong, merely habitual, being able to promptly awaken without being driven by evil thoughts was indeed the skill honed through Buddhism.

At that moment, seeing people praying to Shi Feiyang, aside from thinking Shi Feiyang wasn't worthy, he also felt brief flashes of jealousy: why don't these people pray to me...

But he soon awakened, using righteous thoughts to suppress evil ones: It's fine they don't pray to me, thus relieving my bondage, enabling me to peacefully ascend in the future...

At this thought, he awakened again: No, no, I shouldn't crave peace… craving it ironically brings discord. These who pray to me are my destined people, linked from past lives, be it evil or good ties, I should treat uniformly, hoping they all correct their minds and their thoughts, achieving perfection and becoming Buddha. Namo Amitabha Buddha...

All principles he knew, and if it came to preaching Buddhist teachings, he was among the top in this world, yet such habitually arose evil thoughts were hard to control.

If he adhered to what Zen Master Tian Meng taught, enduringly practicing asceticism, he might eventually grind away these habits bit by bit, achieving total harmony in reason and matter, attaining a pure heart.

But unfortunately, came a fellow disciple from the Buddhist teachings at this time.
