Kurt knew he couldn't keep the fight going as he was. He couldn't think of anything else.
He caught a glare from his own eyes, the illusion still standing where he started. Just sitting there not being completely noticed by the audience. He couldn't exactly connect to that one like the rest for some reason.
His mind was too focused on fighting, or at least keeping at bay, the shadow creature to think too hard about it.
Still circling. Still essentially wasting time until he thought of a way out. He hoped someone had something. He turned toward Layla hoping she had something.
He couldn't actually hurt the shadow creature, but he could disperse his attacks. Basically just blocking and dodging but how long could he do that?
All Kurt needed was a distraction and he could tear the creature apart. He just couldn't let any of the gods or Angels see it.
He saw the illusion again, the one of himself still standing next to Layla, it seemed to be mouthing, "just do it."
It was permitting him to really end the fight. Kurt dashed back.
What was the difference? If he tired himself out there would be no way to fight the gods. And if he never used the power, the shadow creature would eventually win the battle of attrition. The choice between, die or end up dead.
That last bit he needed was his copy telling him to do it.
Kurt's feet dug into the ground and he made a rapid dash at the shadow creature. Using a furious combination of swings, all making the streak of the swords' true power. Before the combo was over the shadow creature had been torn to shreds.
The streaking warping of space causes his sword to finally be able to actually hurt the shadow creature in front of him. The hope that maybe it would just switch the sword's Bah-rou was gone.
He should have studied more. Maybe he wouldn't have had to use it and found a natural counter with the Bah-Rou.
But the problem was he was never able to finish the combo, after killing the shadow creature his sword vanished from his hands and all of the hands of his illusions. The instant loss of the sword stopped him from continuing in a confused stumble from behind him he heard Layla scream.
"Raykiel."
The shadow creature seemed to be down as its appearance started to fade away from the damage he saw turning back towards Layla..
Layla had his sword in her hand. It was raised about Horus's head. The faint view of the space warping slash ending. The front of Horus's dog-head slipped off the front of his face. His hand holding the named wand, Helixcon, fell as well from the same stroke.
His illusion must have handed it to her, or let her take it once he lost control the rest of the illusion lost its power as well.
Layla had just murdered Horus. She was also dropping an object like the other portable gate the student had and a portal opened up.
"What have you done!" screamed Marty, dashing after Layla.
"Can you take care of that he's one of Horus's," Layla said, as a man walked out the gate.
The man raised his hand and Marty froze in place. And then he exploded from the inside in mid-air.
Ishtar had enough sense to grab the wand for herself in the confusion, it had basically dropped at her feet.
Kurt finally was able to change to the illusion next to Layla and reclaimed his sword with a furious expression. Layla didn't resist the taking of the sword.
Ishtar had held back Rosie. She had a confused look about why she was being ordered to stand down.
"The True Sorcerer," said Ishtar.
"That's what they call me," said the man who had exited the gate Layla had opened. "And look at that Horus is dead as well as that traitor. I would have liked to say a few things to them but alas. An opportunity shouldn't be ignored I guess."
"Layla, what did you do?"
"I made a deal," said Layla.
"But isn't he…"
"He hasn't done anything to me, or my kind. He didn't come and enslave us. He's not even from your world Kurt. Now his student, that's a different question."
"Yes he was very troublesome to find," said The True Sorcerer.
"And you expect us to…" said Rosie. But Ishtar had again stopped her. "My lady, she just.."
"I know what she did," said Ishtar, "do you think I'm blind?"
"No, my lady. But the Pantheon."
"Who's Pantheon?" said Layla. Layla was actually at the corpse of Horus. She was filling a cup with his blood. Once it was filled it disappeared.
"Ishtar. The other gods will…," said Rosie.
"Will fight among themselves," said Ishtar holding up the wand, "with no weapons to do so. His strict rule was not popular."
"It's actually a fairly easy story to tell," said The True Sorcerer, "just say I came and challenged Horus myself and he lost. Pretend it was about that traitor if you must," pointing at his student's head. "He was always wary of me."
"You expect us…," said Rosie.
"You will," said Ishtar.
"Now," said the True Sorcerer, "this one is the one you wanted it on of course." He was looking at Kurt.
"Yes," said Layla.
"It shouldn't be hard," the Sorcerer placed his hand on Kurt, and a wave of oscillating energy came through him. Kurt fell to his knees. "Here take this, it will help."
Kurt grabbed whatever it was, something was happening inside him. He took a drink and realized it was the cup with Horus's blood. How had he…
"I can't believe what I'm seeing," said Rosie.
Kurt's body fell to the floor.
Kurt awoke again in Layla's fountain. But it was different: the unexplainable folding design seemed to be pulsing as well as folding now. And heavily. The pink waters had become a deeper red.
She did it again. Just tricked me into it. What the hell happened? When did she ever even talk to the True Sorcerer? Kurt needed some answers.
He had found some clothes for himself at the side of the fountain's waters. He had no idea how long he was out for. Everything seemed new though the touch and sensation of the world seemed to have a clear presence.
What did she do to me? He noticed that his body seemed to be lit. As if he could, and as he imagined it he realized he had started floating.
He could fly now, and it was even harder. Was this how Layla was all the time? No, the joy of flying had to be delayed. He would have to get used to it though. It was actually a bit too easy to fall into. He had barely put much thought into it
How had Layla managed to convince Ishtar to do this without being killed on the spot? He had always seen Ishtar as a proper servant of Horus. Or at least significantly scared enough of him to never betray him.
Layla had changed everything. Again.
