"You've been putting it off," said Master Trenton.
"I know," said Kurt. "I've had a lot to do, it's not a high priority."
"Sylvaine will take it as an insult eventually. The kingdom is expecting you."
"You are banished from that kingdom if I remember correctly."
Trenton couldn't argue that the elves were a clan that had tried to win the throne. Apparently when a King dies the elves are rather violent about the succession.
Once they were clearly losing, they were able to arrange a banishment from the other two fighting parties. They were basically the first to drop out of a three way claim to the throne, and banishment meant their main clan wouldn't be killed off.
But also meant they would never be able to step foot inside the Kingdom. However, they were caught a bit unprepared for Kurt's settlement being so close. And it made negotiations a little tense.
Kurt had never actually visited the kingdom, and that was the issue. He was supposed to. As neighbors they had sent an envoy, and to continue the negotiations he was supposed to be welcomed to the Kingdom. In other words, they were expecting an official visit.
Kurt had no need of the Kingdom, in his mind they were already benefiting from their disinterest. The re creation of the river would have been a boon to the eleven as well as themselves, now that the river had found a true outlet.
The outlet was inside the Eleven Kingdom. Before Layla the grounds were a wasteland no one wanted. He claim was swift, and now powerful enough to keep it.
He wasn't sure how many were there. How much of a threat they actually could pose. The elves never really volunteered for battle, and preferred their place. Making enchanted weaponry.
But it was definitely contrasted by Master Trenton, he was still more skilled with the sword than Kurt. He lacked air movement, speed and strength, so Kurt could win through simply overpowering him. But on technique, Master Trenton would win.
"So why are you so bothered?" said Kurt.
"It just…" said Trenton, "just because we are banished doesn't mean they can't visit us."
"Ohhh, so there is someone you hope will visit you?"
"Many of us have similar wishes. Children can swap clans."
"So peace with the eleven kingdoms."
"Or dominance over." Trenton smiled.
"I'm not looking for a fight."
"Do you think you ascendancy is completely unnoticed?"
"Not anymore," said Kurt.
"It may not be a fight," said Trenton.
"What are you saying?"
"That I would advise you to bring the Kitsune with you. And to make arrangements for the visit."
"The Kitsune? Really?"
"Yes."
"You think it will make things easier?"
"I think it will make a statement."
"Would the Kitsune be guaranteed safety? And wouldn't be hurt?
"Is that a joke? If an elf were to…I would think he would be beheaded on the spot by the closest elf with the ability to do so."
"Like, that quickly. Like you would?"
"In our clan? Absolutely."
"But for all clans?"
"In the eleven kingdoms, Sylvain, yes, outside, I wouldn't know but most likely."
"That would require a Goatman and Minotaur escort," said Kurt. "I was planning a minimal goblin guard. Not that I need it."
"If the goatmen and Minotuars are guards of the Kitsune," said Trenton, "it shouldn't be a problem. Maliki can stand as an apostle, if needed. That should be enough."
This was not the type of trip Kurt had time for. He needed to deal with Betsy the gate. The war. Not have to dine with some King. But he knew he couldn't exactly ignore it.
"What about our people? I would want some eleven guide for customs and direction."
"It couldn't be me," said Trenton, "we will have to find some low ranking member, preferably young, female and completely unarmed."
"And they would let them in?"
"Only to accompany you and not that many. They made a few arrangements for that."
Kurt had just the elf in mind.
Kurt had made his way to the eleven part of the settlement, as the rest of the settlement had been built enough to not call them separate entities anymore.
He came to Jacob's house.
"Any one home?" Kurt yelled knocking on the door.
"Just a minute."
A few moments later, Jacob came to the door half dressed. "Umm Kurt, is there something wrong?"
"I was hoping to talk to you about something."
"The thing is, Stacy is here."
"Great, I wanted to talk to her too."
Jacob gave Kurt a stare like really right now. Kurt was the Lord now and enjoyed it because he had come down here. Yes, right now.
"Can you give us a minute?"
"Sure," said Kurt. He knew Jacob house wasn't that large but he welcomed the awkwardness. Because it was Jacob feeling it. Jacob came to the door, and opened it again.
"Come in," Jacob said with an overly done smile.
Kurt walked in and saw Stacy giving a curtsy, "it's an honor, my lord."
"Stop with that," said Kurt, coming to their kitchen table, "sit down."
They sat down across from Kurt. Looking at each other. Kurt had never asked for Stacy before.
"You are not in trouble," said Kurt. And Stacy gave a gasp of relief. And covered her mouth.
"So what is it?"
"See, I'm in a bit of a bind. Sylvain want to have some boring meeting with us."
"Yeah, elves are a bit worried about it," said Jacob.
"Yes," said Kurt, "and I need people to help me."
"Help you?" said Stacy.
"What do I really know about elves? I welcomed you but the truth is I've been too busy to do much more."
"No, the elves honor you," said Stacy, "you shouldn't…"
Kurt put up his hand, "and now that's become an issue. So basically I'm saying y'all are coming with me."
"With you," said Stacy, "to Sylvain, you know I'm not allowed to…"
"It will be arranged," said Kurt. "It has to be someone like you."
"Like me?"
"Hate to say it but, low rank, female, unarmed. Check, check and check. And I want Jacob with me because he will know some of the more awkward problems between humans and elves. And can hopefully help me from embarrassing myself a little."
"I'm not some dignitary, I don't know anything about," said Jacob. "big important meetings."
"You won't have to," said Kurt, "Betsy will come or send someone."
"I don't have anything to wear," said Stacy.
"Umm," said Kurt, "then," looking at Jacob, smiling nodding, "and get some and tell them to charge me."
"You're going to regret that," said Jacob.
"You have no idea how rich I am now," said Kurt. "I own the entire town, remember."
"Don't worry Lord Kurt," said Stacy, "Jacob has nothing to wear either."
"What does that mean?" Said Jacob.
"You'll see," she giggled.
"You want me to wear something traditional…."
"You wear some traditional outfit," said Kurt, "that's an order." He didn't know what it meant but the look on Stacy's face said, yes that's exactly what he wants.
"That's not fair," said Jacob.
"I just want to savor that look on your face."
"So I don't have to."
Kurt laughed, "ohh no, you do have to," the face Jacob made after that was more enjoyable
Jacob was switching back and forth between Stacy and Kurt.
"And so Stacy," said Kurt,
"Yes, my lord."
"You two shall arrange the envoy with the Kitsune."
Stacy squealed, smiled and contained herself. "I that what you wish"
"Make sure Maliki knows he attended is required."
"Yes, my lord."
"I'm sure you have a lot to discuss."
As Kurt left he could hear Stacy jumping. He knew Jacob would have no choice even without the order.
