Chapter 341: Additional Rewards

Although the Quarterback Training Pack was, in name, a package for quarterback training, Lu Ke couldn't help but think that today's special mission was all about a collective idea—promoting the unity and cohesion of the entire team, and even the mission rewards were no exception. So, Lu Ke naturally wondered...

Could the training pack's boosting effect also benefit his teammates?

For example, Lu Ke could activate the skill pack during a team strategy meeting. All the players from the offense, defense, and special teams would be present, even the backups. If the training pack's boosting effect had no limitations, just like the buff aura, then the entire team's tactical awareness could be improved.

If successful, this wouldn't just be for one game or a one-time effect; instead, all the players' understanding of the playbook would be enhanced, which could benefit them for the entire season. Looking even further ahead, this was an incredibly young team, and they would all become crucial cornerstones for the team's future. Such growth would be even more invaluable.

For the first time, Lu Ke was learning to think from a leader's perspective.

So, Lu Ke voiced his idea, asking when he didn't know: "Little Seven, does this training pack have a usage range?"

"..." Little Seven seemed to be unprepared for this sudden, strange question. It didn't respond immediately, but after a moment, it gave the answer: "No."

I knew it! Lu Ke's guess was correct. "Unite the Heart of Candlestick Park"—from the mission requirements to the mission rewards, everything was from a leader's perspective, considering the entire team. Naturally, the effect of today's Quarterback Training Pack was not limited.

As expected, this special mission was indeed a big deal. The true effects of one special skill and one quarterback training pack far exceeded any previous mission. Lu Ke was very satisfied.

His smile involuntarily grew. Beyond the victory, there were many more gains. They might not be base points, but they represented the team's future, which allowed Lu Ke to experience the happiness and joy of a "team sport."

Lucas, who was giving him a massage, noticed Lu Ke's smile and chuckled softly. "You're smiling right now. Can I take that to mean you're very satisfied with my service?"

"Haha." Lu Ke also laughed. "Of course, no problem at all. I am indeed very satisfied."

After checking the two rewards from the special mission, Lu Ke opened the additional reward again. This time, it wasn't a simple "one base point" but an "Additional Reward Pack."

Lu Ke didn't have many expectations. This was an extra reward, and it was already a great thing to gain anything at all. Besides, he was already reaping a full harvest today, so there was no need to be too greedy. But after opening the additional reward pack, Lu Ke was still astonished, which once again confirmed his thoughts:

This special mission was a big deal.

"Additional Reward Pack: First, from your known special skills, the host may choose one. Second, an additional base point reward, a boost on top of the base points earned from today's game mission."

There were two rewards, and they were very practical.

The first reward was a special skill. Lu Ke's mind immediately brought up the available special skills: Absolute Step, Bullet Time, and Iron Skin.

But... "Little Seven, why isn't the buff aura an option?" This was Lu Ke's first reflex. If he could, he would like to stack the Offense Buff Aura again—even a Defense Buff Aura would be good. The current buff aura only had one use, and in a game, it could only affect a few factors.

"The Offense Buff Aura is a special skill you just acquired today and is not within the available range." Little Seven's answer was blunt and simple.

Lu Ke let out a soft breath and didn't argue further. He carefully thought about the three skills.

While Bullet Time might seem the most direct in its effect—allowing Lu Ke to freely choose how to use five seconds of slowed-down time for running, passing, picking up fumbles, or avoiding interceptions—he was more inclined to choose Absolute Step. Objectively, Absolute Step was limited in its use, only for running out of the pocket and avoiding sacks. However, for Lu Ke, this was the most practical skill because footwork was his biggest weakness and couldn't be remedied in a short period of time. He had to further improve his strengths, there was no doubt about that.

Choose what's practical, not everything. Focus on strengths, not on an average skill level. This was the improvement path Lu Ke had chosen, so he didn't hesitate too much and ultimately chose Absolute Step.

"Ding, congratulations on acquiring the special skill: Absolute Step, duration: three seconds, uses: 2/2."

The second reward was an additional base point bonus. A spinning wheel appeared in his mind with five options: "0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%."

According to the reward description, Lu Ke had earned a total of eleven base points from today's game mission. After spinning the wheel, he would add a certain number of points based on the percentage.

Zero percent was, of course, the option to avoid. But Lu Ke was already in a good mindset. The additional reward was a bonus. It would be great to get it, but if he missed out, there was no need to feel frustrated. What Lu Ke was more curious about was, "Today's base points are an odd number. How should I calculate the decimal points after multiplying by the percentage?"

"Round to the nearest whole number." Little Seven's answer made him feel a little helpless. Lu Ke knew he was being foolish: rounding was the only option. What else was he expecting?

"Spin." Without any hesitation, he mentally commanded the wheel to spin. The wheel spun rapidly, and all the numbers blurred together. Lu Ke didn't wait and just shouted "stop." The wheel slowly came to a halt, finally settling on "fifty percent."

Not too high, not too low, just in the middle. His luck was pretty good.

"So, five and a half points... that rounds to six?" Lu Ke asked again. Before Little Seven could answer, the base points in the top right corner had already automatically changed to seventeen, confirming Lu Ke's guess.

After the first week of the regular season, Lu Ke once again had a great harvest of base points. The rewards for the special mission were especially generous, to the point of being enviable. As a journalist, Lu Ke's mind wandered again. "Little Seven, this special mission didn't have any requirements specified. Does that mean... there's no limit? If the team had an even bigger victory, would the rewards have been even more generous?"

For example, if Lu Ke became the first rookie quarterback in history to throw seven touchdowns in a single game?

In the long history of football, the single-game passing touchdown record was still seven, and only five quarterbacks had ever achieved it: the Chicago Bears' Sid Luckman on November 14, 1943; the Philadelphia Eagles' Adrian Burk on October 17, 1954; the Houston Oilers' (now the Tennessee Titans) George Blanda on November 19, 1961; the New York Giants' Y.A. Tittle on October 28, 1962; and the Minnesota Vikings' Joe Kapp on September 28, 1969.

Seven passing touchdowns in a single game was the highest record for a quarterback, and after 1969, up until 2011, no quarterback had been able to replicate this feat, not even the league's top four elite quarterbacks.

On the one hand, throwing seven passing touchdowns in a single game was indeed very difficult. On the other hand, a team would often have a sure victory after scoring five or six touchdowns. The top quarterbacks would either choose to rest or run the ball to run down the clock instead of being aggressive.

But if it were to set a record, or if the two teams were fighting fiercely and the score was close, that would be a different story.

Lu Ke was just proposing a bold hypothesis. The system wouldn't have forgotten the mission requirements due to an oversight. Just look at the mission rewards: unknown, unknown, unknown. Even the additional reward was unknown. Did this mean that the system would assign the rewards based on the mission's completion?

"Yes."

Little Seven's answer was so straightforward that Lu Ke was a little taken aback. But he couldn't say much, with a mouthful of air stuck in his throat. He ultimately consoled himself: Don't be too greedy. The current gains were already more than enough.

Now, with seventeen base points, he had made even more progress than the fifteen base points he had in the first week. It was enough to go all out and get fully equipped. This rate of growth was enough to make people envious. You can't be too greedy.

So, Lu Ke didn't pursue it further. He just reminded himself that the next time he encountered a special mission, he had to give it his all and not slack off at all.

Putting all his wild ideas and questions aside for now, Lu Ke summoned his attribute panel and began to examine it carefully.

Although he had decided to continue stacking the quarterback skills, he still had to seriously consider which skills to prioritize. It was at this moment that his peripheral vision caught sight of the various physical fitness options, and his eyes lit up slightly.

He noticed that several of his physical stats had actually increased. Lu Ke was very certain that those numbers had changed, but... why? Before this, after training for six months or a year, these points only increased slightly. The last increase should have been before the start of the regular season. So now, in just six short weeks, his physical fitness had improved again.

As if sensing the confusion in Lu Ke's mind, before Lu Ke could ask, Little Seven proactively gave him the answer. "The results of the daily training mission. After adding strength training and persistent exercise, it is now reflected in the stats."
