Reborn As The Barbarian God

Chapter 84: Obsessed with charm

Galthor told the others what happened. He ignored Lady Pelica and simply categorized her as part of those that were controlled by the relic. "....and that's what happened. You were all taken over by the relic that tries to use your bones for itself."

They were shocked. And rightly so. To them, it was simply a matter of them blanking out, they had no idea that all of that happened at all. It was as if they blinked and they found themselves in the relic lair.

Karathra shuddered. "If you weren't here, then we would have happily handed our bones over. I know the Abyssal land is dangerous but the mind attack is simply too powerful."

Hrothgar grunted and nodded. "I don't like things that I can't beat with my fist. I don't even know I need to beat anything with my fist."

They were all sitting around, using stumps from fallen trees. Galthor simply turned it to a break and let them enjoy some food.

While the others were thinking, Galthor was also thinking about what happened. Due to the perished barbarian gods' memories that were locked away inside him, his mind was incredibly strong and powerful.

But it was only his subconsciousness, the upper surface was not as strong and if he was not careful, he could be controlled. Thankfully, with the relic doing just that, his attention had been drawn to it and he was now creating a strong connection to bind both his consciousness and subconsciousness together. That way, if anything controlled him in a conscious way, his subconsciousness would react even faster.

Maybe if he was still a human or an ordinary barbarian then things of the mind could be one and the same, but he was far more than those things.

Another thing he noticed was the fact that Lord Doveling had a link with Drakira.

Truthfully, he knew the other banners would try to plant spies among his people but he did not think they would use such a method. It was his failure on his part and he had taken responsibility.

And with that, he destroyed the link and then checked every other barbarian, all of his worshippers, and he found up to eight of such links in different magical ways.

All the banners had made a connection with them.

Strangely, Galthor was not angry or annoyed. It instead made him reflect on things more. He had not fully adjusted to the ways of the Divine world.

Indeed, shouldn't he also have such methods to spy on the others? In a way, he was still thinking like a human. An ordinary mortal.

And he accepted it, and also the fact that he needed to do way better.

"...Chief? Galthor?" Karathra said, giving him a strange look.

Galthor roused himself from his deep thinking and looked at Karathra. "You are asking me what my next plan is."

The barbarians nodded.

Galthor looked up, and the light on the Abyssal land was already dimming. There was no sun under the tunnel and none in the Abyssal land. In fact, the Abyssal land rejects light.

But since the Revolutionary base was set up, the Winged people brought along a relic of such power that it could cast a sliver of light that mimicked the sun in a way with very little warmth. It was a method used in underground Abyssal land.

Now, that "sun" was dimming.

"We will go out tomorrow. We need to rest and with no light, there would be little to be done anyway. We might be a day behind on our target, but meeting the target is all that matters anyway."

They nodded and when Galthor waved his hand to release the equipment they needed from his spatial ring, they began to set up camp.

After the camp was done, and an enchanted long chain used around it as a shield, they sat at the center where a bonfire was burning to warm themselves and to eat warm cakes.

"Chief, you've not shown us the new relic and are you going to give anyone?" Ashclaw asked with a hopeful look in his eyes.

As if they had all been waiting for the news, they snapped their attention towards him.

Galthor ignored them for a while and finished the last bit of the sweetened cake before washing it down with an ale.

After that he looked at the hopeful eyes. "I'm not sure I'm going to give anyone this relic. It has powerful mind powers and it is aware, it might be dangerous. But I'll only know after using it for a while."

Galthor raised his right hand and a light shimmered around it, turning into a brown dirty book. The covers were made of leather but tattered and wrinkled, the pages filled with holes and full of dirt. Just looking at it made one filled with revulsion.

"This relic is called Obsessed with Charm and it is Warded rank."

"What? This thing is able to control all of us and yet it is only Warded rank?"

"How's that possible?"

"It's not possible at all!"

"Chief, are you sure you are accurate this time around?"

"Maybe you should check it again?"

"It's Warded rank." A cool voice cut through.

It was Lady Pelica and she was looking at Galthor strangely. She learned that he could appraise relics when she invaded Karathra's mind but it was another thing to see it with her own eyes.

"You know about appraising, Lady Pelica?" Galthor raised his brows.

"I do. Enchantments know somewhat about it but we can't measure up to appraisers. I'm more surprised that you can appraise at all, Chief Galthor."

Galthor shrugged. "I picked up some skills here and there."

He turned to the others. "This is a bit of a special relic and not only because it is aware. It is a growth type...."

He paused and as expected, they all looked at him with incredible shock. Even Lady Pelica appeared stunned.

Growth type relics are the type that can grow from one rank to another. Normally, relics are fixed into certain ranks forever but some special ones can grow, just like plants or other beings.

Added with the relic awareness, it is an incredibly valuable thing.
