BS did not walk away empty handed. As the Moonhare Empire's most important Moon Sovereign, Mistblade's city naturally stored plenty of large training relics for her kin.
Rita had even prepared for Mistblade to haggle, yet for once the woman did not. She actually accepted it as is. Looks like buying this chunk of Snowfield had been the right call.
After settling BS Mistblade's deal, Rita lifted the Fishbone Wind Chime and turned to Pine Bloom.
There was no way she could keep this divine relic for herself.
Because the description of Whale Falls in the Wind read, I should avoid your edge? No, let me fall in battle upon the wind.
Wasn't this the definition of stubborn?
Her own divine relics were so much better.
Clearly Crab did not care much for Whale Falls in the Wind either. When BS Rita said she would use the relic in her negotiation with Pine Bloom, it didn't object at all, even shifting its gaze aside.
Seeing the relic, Pine Bloom opened her arms slightly as if waiting for someone to dive into her embrace.
Her black dragonscale glove glimmered. The wings behind her once again turned into dragon wings. She gave a mocking smile and said, Don't get cocky, BS Rita. I don't need you to return it. I can take it back myself.
Rita added the second chip, the most important one. She said, Not just this. I'm adding another promise. If I die for real, you will become the next BS Adjudicator. This might be your only path to inheriting that role.
Only this can bypass a world wide vote. This promise can be written directly into BS rules. The condition is the same as with Mistblade. The large relics and tools you control that can train Owls must be opened fifty percent to the human race. And if I truly die, I don't ask you to be kind to them. I only ask that you allow them a path to survive with dignity.
I promise the same. If you fall, I will leave a path and dignity for the Skycrabs.
She had thought long and hard before making this offer.
It was not only to move Pine Bloom, but also to leave BS a fallback.
She had never stopped BS kin from entering the Divine Game. She just never proactively helped. She was not that selfless, nor that free, and most importantly, if someone needed her help just to enter the Divine Game, then they were not suited for the game at all. Their future development would rely on her support, something she could not and would not provide.
With that time and effort she could boost BS by a hundredfold instead.
Besides, BS was already incredibly late to the game. She suspected the game might be on the verge of shutdown before BS even logged in.
If she died unfortunately, then BS would need a powerful and not cruel Divine Game player to anchor the world.
Humanity's status would drop, but she believed Avery Shadow and the others would quickly find a foothold. She would leave backup plans for them. No matter what, it was still better than letting other worlds invade unchecked.
And this was simply the worst case.
Right now she was trying to use this promise to secure resources that would let the entire human race grow stronger.
The world was already chaos. Where could Pine Bloom go to find another world and slowly develop believers until that world agreed to let her become an Adjudicator?
If Pine Bloom wanted to become an Adjudicator, inheritance was the only path. And BS Rita was the only Adjudicator in the Divine Game.
To Rita, Pine Bloom's mindset was like a gamer obsessed with completing an almost unobtainable achievement.
Pine Bloom lowered her arms and clasped them behind her back, her expression deep in thought.
Rita waited patiently for several minutes. Mistblade and Crab did the same, and even Sea Pony lying on Crab's head waited quietly.
In the end it was BS Smoke Tune, who had remained silent until now, who finally spoke in her gentle voice. She is waiting for you to invite her.
Rita snapped to realization. She still did not understand Pine Bloom's quirks well enough. She quickly sent the invitation.
Pine Bloom shot her a severe look. After a few silent seconds she accepted.
The invite and terms were exactly what BS Rita had stated earlier, such as deliberately losing in a duel to return Whale Falls in the Wind, and Pine Bloom inheriting the Adjudicator role after Rita's death.
But there was one more condition. Before Pine Bloom could inherit the role, BS Rita could not die by Pine Bloom's hand.
Pine Bloom still agreed.
She had ways to obtain strength and power. The only thing she had yearned for since learning of its existence was the title of Adjudicator. It did not need to be Forest Sea Adjudicator. As long as she became one, wherever the Owls lived would become Forest Sea. She often felt Maple Syrup was overly obsessed, yet every time she tried to advise her otherwise, one glance at Faded Homeland stole all words from her mouth.
Another negotiation concluded. Rita felt more exhausted than after playing an entire Divine Game.
Both deals were huge opportunities for BS, and thankfully they had gone smoothly.
She looked at Crab.
A moment ago Crab and Sea Pony had still been slouching, looking ready to curl up and nap. Now both straightened with forced seriousness.
Rita was conflicted. She understood Mistblade's temperament and could predict Pine Bloom's thoughts, but she was not very familiar with Crab and Sea Pony at all. She asked, What do you want? The ocean? Fame? Status? Or the freedom you had back in Marmang?
If Crab wanted true freedom, she would have to draft rules to prevent conflict between humans and Skycrabs.
I can become BS leader. I don't need any of that. To her shock, BS Crab gave her this enormous surprise right away. In a solemn tone it stated its only condition. I want Sea Pony to become BS mascot.
Sea Pony, still lying on Crab's head, froze with its eyes wide open. It stared down at Crab, utterly stunned. Rita had never seen it so flustered.
A BS mascot?
Rita refused instantly. Impossible.
Even the usually quiet Nivalis shouted, Keep dreaming.
The B80 console even paused its game and looked up at Sea Pony. What a disaster.
A world mascot could only be someone who, even wielding a World Graveyard, still could not become an official Divine Game player.
Mascots were special existences. As they wandered the world, whenever they offered a sincere blessing to someone, that blessing had a chance to become real. Hence the name mascot.
They had no authority. The only real benefit was the love and adoration of the world's people.
Since becoming an Adjudicator and learning how mascots worked, Rita had never once considered making Nivalis the BS mascot. Too often a well meant blessing was not actually a good thing.
One New Year Nivalis had even blessed her with may you never be found even if you hide under the bed for the rest of your life. How was that a good blessing?
Well, it was barely acceptable.
But if Nivalis was already like this, then Sea Pony was even more unpredictable.
Was that mouth capable of saying good things? Of offering blessings?
Even if it saved the entire universe someday, its mouth would still go straight to the underworld.
