The Forsaken's Revenge

Chapter 326 Are You Out of Your Mind?

"You must leave immediately," Xu Da urged. "If you stay, you'll only distract me. You'll be of no help at all!"

Feng Yueyue bit her lower lip hard, knowing now wasn't the time to argue. After a moment's hesitation, she said in a low voice, "Then please, be extremely careful..."

With those words, she turned and ran outside as fast as she could.

Two of Wang Jin's men moved to block her, but Xu Da charged forward without a second thought and engaged them both in a fight. After a flurry of five or six moves, Xu Da was struck simultaneously by both men. The blow sent him flying through the air, crashing onto a nearby table laden with drinks.

The table shattered instantly, sending bottles flying everywhere. Just as Xu Da tried to push himself up, the cold barrel of a pistol was pressed against his head.

"Think you can play games with me, kid?"

"You're not qualified!" The words were no sooner spoken than the gun came down hard on the back of his head.

Xu Da's vision went black, and he lost consciousness.

「About half an hour later.」

Inside the villa, a guard rushed in. "War God, there's a problem with Xu Da!"

"Is there?" Chen Zheng seemed surprised. "His protection detail was supposed to be over. What sort of trouble could he have gotten into?" His brother-in-law was usually so full of life; he couldn't imagine what could have happened.

"He was attacked..." the guard said quickly. "He's in the hospital right now, undergoing emergency treatment!"

Chen Zheng's brow furrowed. "Do you know who did it?"

The guard paused for a moment before answering. "Wang Jin, the son of the Central Plains Wolf!"

「Jiangnan Zhongkang Hospital.」

In a VIP ward, Chen Zheng stood outside, his expression incredibly dark and his fists clenched tight. Xu Da had been stabilized, but the brain damage was severe. If Chen Zheng hadn't arrived and intervened when he did, Xu Da would have certainly died. Fortunately, his life had been saved.

"Chen Zheng, you damn bastard!" A furious shout echoed from the end of the corridor.

A hand flew toward his face, but Chen Zheng made no move to dodge. The slap landed resoundingly on his cheek.

Wei Zixuan froze for a second, stunned. She hadn't expected him to simply take it. This was completely out of character.

"I deserved that slap," Chen Zheng said, his expression unchanged. "I failed to protect Xu Da." Still, the self-reproach in his eyes was palpable.

"It's good that you know it," she retorted, her body trembling with rage. "The only reason I let Xu Da go with you was so you could help him achieve his dream of being a soldier. But what did you do? You had him protecting some Miss Feng! He's my cousin! What gives you the right to make him protect some other woman? Why should my brother have to risk his life to pay for your romantic entanglements?"

Her face was a mask of disappointment. Their already shattered relationship had hit rock bottom. Hidden within her words was a clear trace of deep-seated resentment.

Chen Zheng stood his ground, saying nothing, his fists clenched so tight his knuckles were white.

"Chen Zheng, if anything happens to Xu Da, I will never forgive you!" After saying her piece, Wei Zixuan pushed open the door to the hospital room and went inside.

"Come," Chen Zheng said calmly.

A dark figure appeared in a flash. "War God! Do we really have to go this far? You know who Wang Jin is..."

"I don't care who's backing him," Chen Zheng's eyes glinted with a cold light. "He hurt Xu Da, and I'll make him pay a hundred times over."

「About half an hour later.」

An exceptionally tall and imposing figure walked slowly into a bar.

At the bar counter, a man with a scarred face was pawing at a beautiful woman. She, in turn, did everything she could to please him, a constant smile plastered on her face. She acted as if catching this man's eye was the achievement of a lifetime.

Seeing this, Chen Zheng frowned deeply as he walked over and sat down nearby.

"Arrogant!" a man in a suit snapped angrily. "Who do you think you are, sitting next to the Young Master?"

This was the bar's owner, Zhang Yao. After Wang Jin had started a fight in his establishment and sent a man to the hospital, he had rushed over to apologize, terrified of upsetting this big shot.

"It's fine," Wang Jin said, a meaningful smirk playing on his lips as he glanced at Chen Zheng. "Just have this gentleman here buy us a round." This poor schmuck had clearly never been to a place like this, and Wang Jin was ready to have some fun with him.

"Young Master, this idiot looks like he couldn't afford a single drink. We should just kick him out!" Zhang Yao said with a sneer.

"No, no," Wang Jin waved a dismissive hand. "My father always told me not to judge a book by its cover. For all we know, this gentleman could be a genuine billionaire! We shouldn't underestimate people, right?" Of course, he only said this to make a bigger spectacle of the man.

"I can see you were raised well," Chen Zheng remarked, nodding with a slight smile.

His words immediately drew the attention of everyone nearby. The comment itself was innocuous enough, usually something an elder would say to a junior. But for this stranger to be so presumptuous in front of Wang Jin—was he asking for trouble?

Even Wang Jin's expression turned cold. He pushed the woman away from him and fixed his icy gaze on Chen Zheng. "Little thing... Is there something wrong with your head?"

"Apologize to the Young Master right now and pay for everyone's tab!" Zhang Yao broke out in a cold sweat, urging him frantically. "Maybe if he's in a good mood, he'll let you off!" The man was unbelievably audacious! But more importantly, if he had a death wish, why did he have to drag him into it?

One idiot had already pissed off the Young Master tonight, and now another one with a death wish had shown up. What the hell was going on?
