Chapter 85: Thunder Chapter

Raze pushed himself up into a sitting posture, his back leaned against the bedrest. He looked at Lady Rose. "What really happened? All I recall was that after Ella cast that spell and destroyed the abomination, I tried to stop her and was knocked back," Raze said.

"Well, there is a bit more after that. The fact that an Elite Battle Mage, one of the captains of the Vermilion Ten Chapters and a graduate of this academy, also stepped in to help because the abomination didn't die, she finished it off."

"Wait, did you just say a captain from one of the Vermilion Ten Chapters?" Raze asked, shock in his eyes as he spoke.

"Oh? Seems you know them," she replied.

"Considering the fact that the Ten Chapters are the most elite force in Vermilion, and their captains are considered the greatest mages and battle mages to walk the kingdom, yeah," Raze said.

He didn't even need to read the story to know this, because everyone in the kingdom knew what the Ten Chapters were. They were the elite of the elite, a force created by the Royal Family of Vermilion.

Each chapter was unique, and they existed for great emergencies and to ensure that the kingdom remained safe and well. They answered only to the king and no one else, and when they appeared, everyone felt their presence.

"I guess that's true. I'm sure you'll find out more about her when you start at the academy, as she has volunteered to teach in the academy for a bit," Lady Rose said.

'What? A captain from one of the Ten Chapters teaching here? What could she possibly want to gain from that? Wait, this never happened in the story. Why is it happening now? Did the plot change?' Raze began asking himself numerous questions.

"That being said, I know you want to ask about what happened with Ella when she cast that spell," she said. Her expression darkened when she said that. "Sigh, that's not something for me to tell you. Ella will tell you if you ask her."

She walked to the door of the room, opened it, then spoke. "Check in the wardrobe, there are some clothes for you, and also Rufus delivered what you asked him to make. Get ready, the entrance exam is about to start, and I want you to be there. Just head to the training grounds within the academy," she said and then finally left.

Raze got up, pushing the blanket off him. He was in underwear alone. He looked at it with a blank expression.

"The important question here should be, who changed me?" he said.

Walking to the wardrobe, he pulled it open, and there were the clothes, but not only that. There was also something long wrapped inside cloth. After unraveling it, he saw it there: the tool he had asked for, the bat.

He was stunned that Rufus had made it in just one day. Such speed was shocking; the runes flowed perfectly over the metal body of the bat. He picked it up, and the weight was perfect.

A letter was in the cloth after he removed the bat. He picked it up and read what was inside.

[I tried to make a quick prototype for you before your entrance examination. It turned out making it got me more invested than I normally would be in something.

I'll work on the real one and be done in two weeks or so. When you come to get it, bring along the things you promised.] The letter ended there.

"So this was the prototype." He gave it a few practice swings, and it felt perfect.

"It feels pretty great." He flipped it and caught it.

[.....]

Raze left the building. It was a large building for the teachers that stayed in the academy, but it was empty now.

The moment he stepped out of the compound, he was stunned by what he saw. The entire academy was massive and made of black marble all through. It was a sight to see, something that even the novel couldn't fully describe.

The main academic building consisted of four wings, north, south, east, and west, each one mostly used by a particular year, though some classes leaked into each other. The dorms were further away from the main building.

Raze took the first path he saw, and that took him right to the main campus, where a ton of candidates were flocking through the gates, each one filled with ambition. No one really paid attention to him, so he blended seamlessly into the crowd.

After walking with them for a while, they finally made it to the training ground they were to use, a large cleared space with a lot of aiming targets and wooden weapons.

There were at least five hundred to a thousand students standing there. Raze already knew how they were going to be cut down, so he wasn't really worried, though slightly sad for those that would get kicked out instantly.

While he stood there, he used God's Eyes and scanned the area. He spotted Gavin and Riker in the crowd as well. He didn't know if they saw him or not, but he decided not to bother meeting them. He was here to get the exam done and leave.

While the others made noise, Raze simply stood there doing nothing. And then finally, someone showed up, a beautiful lady with black hair, in casual clothes, a white blouse tucked into black leather pants.

The moment Raze saw her, he knew who she was: the leader of the Fourth Chapter, the Black Thunder Chapter. She was the first female to found her own chapter, taking it from nine to ten chapters and also pushing it up to the fourth-ranked one in the kingdom.

'Wait, when Lady Rose spoke of a student that graduated from the academy, did she mean her? Captain Sofia? I can't believe it. Why is she the one taking the entrance examination?'
