My unbelievable life with CATS (Con and Thief system)

Chapter 52: Shopping and Craving

"Ding... dong," the supermarket door opened, and Dylan walked out carrying four large, full plastic bags, struggling to hold them all.

"Uuugh... so this is what the guys on the construction site always gripe about, being sent out to buy all sorts of stuff by their pregnant wives," Dylan muttered to himself, looking at his four bags.

He set the bags down on the ground, then looked at his list again while waiting for the ride-share taxi that was on its way to pick him up at the supermarket. Suddenly, "tap," Dylan turned to see Connor standing next to him, tapping his shoulder. Connor wasn't alone; he was with a classmate named Sharon.

"Hey... shopping, huh?" Connor asked.

"Connor, it's you. A lot of demands back home. (He glanced at the plastic bags Connor was carrying) You're shopping yourself," Dylan replied with a slight smile.

"Oh, this? Sharon and I are heading to my apartment. This is for snacks when we binge-watch movies later," Connor replied.

"Um... are you two dating?" Dylan asked, seeing Connor holding Sharon's hand.

"A long time, man. How did you not know?" Sharon replied.

"Uh... yeah, I just found out," Dylan replied.

Connor looked at Dylan's face, which this time looked clean and fresh, even though his eyes looked tired.

"You look different now, way more... refreshed and put together than usual. Looks like your four wives are really taking care of you, huh, hehe," Connor said.

"Huh... what are you talking about?" Dylan asked, his face starting to turn red.

"Don't play dumb, Dylan. Everyone in class knows that Maya, Ellie, Lena, and Amy are all really pregnant with your babies... relax, I'm not gonna judge you or anything," Sharon replied casually.

"Yep, even though they explained they were just panicking and emotional, so they said things that weren't true, none of us believed them. We all just played along," Connor added.

"Plus, my older sister, who's a nurse, confirmed she ran into Lena and Amy at her school when they came with you to pick up your twin sisters," Sharon added.

"Huh... r-really? Your sister... Nurse Monica?" Dylan asked, his face pale.

"Yep, that's right. We're far apart in age, but she's my sister. We look alike," Sharon replied cheerfully.

"So... the whole class knows? Seriously?" Dylan asked, bewildered.

"Yep," (Connor placed a hand on Dylan's shoulder) "Don't sweat it, bro. It's fine, don't let it stress you out... just be careful if you run into our buddies like Derek, Ben, and Sean. They're huge fans of Lena and Amy. You know what I mean," Connor replied.

"That's right. They seriously look like they want to kill you, hehe," Sharon added.

"That's not funny, man," Dylan replied.

"Oh yeah... our friends are planning a farewell party for the classmates after graduation. The location is still being discussed in the group. You never check the group, do you?" Connor asked.

Suddenly, Sharon elbowed Connor. Connor's face instantly changed, and he looked back at Dylan.

"Oh, no, bro, sorry, just forget what I just said, haha," Connor added.

"Yeah, seriously, sorry. He just talks," Sharon added.

"O... okay, we gotta go, man. I want to hurry up and watch our movie, haha," Connor said nervously.

"Y-yeah, bye Dylan," Sharon added.

Without waiting for Dylan to reply, both of them immediately ran off, leaving Dylan wondering what was really going on.

"Hmm... it seems like they're hiding something," Dylan muttered in his head.

[That's right, sir. Your classmates intend to hold a farewell party. All four of your wives were invited, but you were not... they were invited to join the group, but don't worry, they declined and have no intention of attending that farewell party.]

"No wonder Ellie, Maya, Amy, and Lena didn't say anything to me," Dylan replied.

[Yes, sir, just let it go.]

"We'll have our own party later, no need to join the classmates. But most importantly, I need to learn to drive tomorrow so I don't end up like this... waiting for a ride-share that's taking forever," Dylan muttered in his head.

[If you want to be able to drive a car, I can implant the knowledge directly into your head without you having to take lessons. How about that?]

"Huh... seriously? Why are you just telling me now?" Dylan asked.

[Because you did not ask.]

"Grr... well, yeah, I want that. So tomorrow I'll only have to get the license," Dylan replied.

[If you wish to have the license as well, I can arrange it.]

"Huh... but you have to take tests and everything? How would that work?" Dylan asked.

[Just leave it to me, sir. How does that sound?]

"Fine, please do it," Dylan answered. [Understood, sir.]

Suddenly, a light appeared in the palm of Dylan's hand, slowly forming a driver's license that was registered in the state system and looked official. Dylan read the data clearly and correctly written on the card.

[It is done, sir.]

"You should have done that earlier... so I wouldn't have to struggle carrying this many and this huge plastic bags, and still have to stop at a drive-thru for wings and a hamburger," Dylan muttered in his head, looking at his new license.

[Next time, ask, sir.]

"Grr... how was I supposed to know you could arrange something like this instantly," Dylan retorted.

A short while later, the ride-share taxi arrived. After putting everything in the trunk and getting inside, Dylan asked the driver to make a quick stop to buy food at a fast-food restaurant. When they got to the drive-thru, the driver was a bit confused because Dylan's order looked like he was throwing a party or feeding a small village. After driving to the next window and picking up the order, Dylan checked everything, then took one bag and handed it to the driver.

"Uh... what is this, sir?" the driver asked, surprised.

"This is for you, for helping me out," Dylan replied.

"Oh... no need, sir. I helped voluntarily," the driver replied.

"It's okay, sir. Please take it, or I'll feel bad," Dylan replied.

The driver was silent for a moment. He looked in the rearview mirror to see Dylan's face in the back, and after seeing Dylan's sincerity, he finally took the bag Dylan offered and placed it on the passenger seat next to him.

"Thank you, sir... but if I may ask, why did you buy so much food?" the driver asked.

"Well... you know how it is, demands from a pregnant wife, sir... sometimes they ask for strange things," Dylan answered.

"Oh, your wife is pregnant? Congratulations. I hope the birth goes smoothly later," the driver replied, looking genuinely grateful and offering his congratulations.

"Are you married, sir?" Dylan asked.

"Yes, I have two children already, twins who are just five years old," the driver replied proudly.

"Oh really? That's great, sir. I can see you're happy," Dylan said.

"That's right. I'm happy and motivated to work hard for them," the driver replied.

"I understand how you feel, sir," Dylan replied.

Finally, they continued to chat casually throughout the trip. The driver glanced at the bag of food Dylan bought and said was for his wife.

"Maybe his wife is having quadruplets, or something. She's eating a ton, too... when my wife was pregnant with twins, it felt so rough, even if I was happy... I feel sorry for this passenger of mine," the driver muttered in his head.
