Reincarnated as a Lizard

Chapter 122: Fear

Wh-wha- what was that!? Was that the human from earlier!?

Indeed, like the crimson flame knight had expected, the nearby monsters were indeed scared silly by his earlier attack, as even Scaly who had hidden herself to avoid being detected by the terrifying human, was left shivering in fear as the ground beneath suddenly shook violently followed by a loud explosion.

Even though her strength had increased by a lot after her third evolution, even though she had already become a dragon, Scaly couldn't stop herself from shivering as she didn't dare to move anywhere close to the entrance of the cave, she found herself hiding inside of.

It was almost like a primeval fear had awakened in her, as she lost control of her body for well over five minutes. Unable to move a single muscle as she could only fearfully look in the direction of the entrance to the cave.

Only after the five minutes were up and she regained control of her body, did Scaly feel an overwhelming sense of shame and humiliation from what had just happened.

For her to end up in such a pitiful state just from the aftermath of an attack she hadn't even seen… Scaly had no idea how to cheer herself up, as she could only throw any thoughts of fighting the terrifying human that she presumed to be behind the attack to the back of her mind.

Even if she had become a dragon, she was still far too weak to face off against someone like that. Making her painfully aware of the fact that she was still far from achieving the status of an all-powerful dragon that she wanted.

In the end, all she could do was slowly crawl out of the cave to assess the situation.

This… So, I'm not the only one who was affected…

However, as she made her way out of the small cave she had hidden inside of, she soon realized that she wasn't the only one that had been affected by the terrifying attack earlier, as all the monsters outside were still left in a paralyzed state. Shivering in fear as they looked in the same direction.

Feeling curious, Scaly decided to also turn in the direction that these paralyzed monsters were looking in-

So… That is what caused the earlier shaking.

Soon staring directly at the large scar that had been left behind by the crimson flame knight. Looking like it the two mountains had been directly cleaved apart from the base. Creating a new passage between the two mountains that hadn't been there before.

At least, that was what it looked like from where Scaly was standing. Making her feel even more awed than fearful of the terrifying power required to do something like that.

Luckily, due to the fact that the crimson flame knight didn't limit his speed when leaving, by the time Scaly turned to look up the new spiral staircase that had appeared not too far away. Trying to find the crimson flame knight. All she saw was his figure disappearing in the clouds that drifted through the spiral staircase.

Hm?

Turning her attention back to her surroundings, Scaly suddenly realized that the monsters around her were still frozen in fear looking towards the place where the crimson flame knight's attack had cleaved apart two mountains.

Wait… Isn't this a perfect opportunity to increase my strength…?

As both her eyes started shining at this thought, Scaly didn't waste any time, as she jumped forward towards a mountain rabbit that was only a few meters away from where she had hidden earlier-

Swish-!

Ptsh!

[Gained 246 Exp]

And in one swift movement and without any resistance, the mountain rabbit died. Unable to take its eyes off the two mountains in the distance even at the moment of death.

Hehe, this is indeed a great way to increase my strength without having to waste time hunting down monsters trying to fight back or running away!

Smiling happily as her wings fluttered excitedly along with her tail in response, Scaly didn't waste any time as she soon descended upon the motionless monsters who had yet to fully recover from the state of fear they were trapped in.

Making sure to target not only the mountain rabbits, but also some of the more powerful monsters that had ended up revealing themselves due to what had just happened. Allowing her to understand that the mountain range was far more dangerous than she had first expected, as there was no lack of powerful monsters at level 40 and above…

[*Ding* Reached level 3… 4… 5… 6]

However, given their frozen state, they were easily killed off by her. Allowing her level to rapidly soar from level 2 and reach level 6 by the time that the monsters finally woke up from their state of fear, a state that had ended up only lasting for an entire fifteen minutes.

Giving Scaly a full ten minutes of time to run amok among the different monsters without anything to stop her. Essentially resulting in a massacre taking place across the three different mountains she had managed to sweep through in the short period of time she had to run amok.

Roar!?

Rooooaaaar!

Roar~!

By the time that these monsters realized that a massacre had taken place right next to them, they all began roaring loudly, as they feared that the perpetrator was none other than the terrifying human that had cleaved apart the two mountains earlier-

Roar…? ROAR!

However, as one of the stronger monsters spotted Scaly and realized that it wasn't the terrifying human but instead just another monster taking advantage of the situation to increase its own strength, it roared loudly filled with killing intent before angrily charging towards Scaly.

Not so much because it wanted to fight it out with her, but more so because it wanted the rest of the monsters to learn about the situation as well and help killing Scaly. After all, they had all been in a similar situation where none of them could move just a few seconds earlier, with Scaly taking advantage of the situation to kill them off one by one when they couldn't fight back.

Although this monster would have done the exact same had it been in Scaly's position, it didn't feel any shame as it charged towards her in an act of righteousness to avenge the fallen monsters.

Roar!

Roooar!

Seeing what was happening and also realizing that it wasn't the terrifying human that had caused the massacre, the rest of the powerful monsters around level 30 and 40 all turned around before angrily charging towards Scaly in a similar fashion as the first monster that had alerted them to her existence.

Of course, the main reason why these monsters had suddenly come together to attack Scaly had nothing to do with the monsters she had killed but was instead due to the fact that these monsters all wanted to kill her and increase their own strength. Having found a rare moment to work together for this goal.

In the end, Scaly soon found the powerful monsters from not just the mountain she was currently on, but also surrounding mountains, charging towards her filled with both killing intent and greed.

I feel like I experience something similar to this not too long ago…

Narrowing both of her eyes as she watched the approaching monsters, Scaly could not help frowning to herself as she remembered how she had been forced to run by the humans back when she had only spent a little over a day on the third floor of the dungeon. Essentially causing her to get trapped inside the human town.

The only difference from that time was that she now had a flock of monsters running towards her instead of a group of humans.

Of course, compared to back then, Scaly was not the same, as she confidently faced the incoming monsters. Feeling confident that she would be able to fight them with her current strength.

At the same time, she was also looking forward to an opportunity to test out her water dragon magic. Feeling curious about just how strong it was now that it had reverted back to level one after becoming water dragon magic.

In case things got too dangerous and she couldn't hold on against the onslaught of monsters, she felt that she should be able to escape without much difficulty.

After all, even if the monsters looked like they were going to work together for now, when some of them ended up injured in the fight, the fickle alliance formed against her would inevitably end up breaking down, as the battle would devolve into a massive brawl where everyone tried to kill each other.

For Scaly, this was the beast case scenario, as it would allow her to continue hunting for monsters in the chaos with relative ease by making use of her significantly smaller size compared to most of the other monsters to avoid combat.
