Du Dingshan tiptoed to perch on the edge of the office desk. He picked up a pen and began toying with it casually.
THUD, THUD, THUD.
Qin Qiu stumbled back three steps in fright, her expression terrified. "Mr. Du, get out right now, or I'm calling the police!"
"Call the police?" Du Dingshan laughed, picking up the telephone receiver and tossing it in front of her with a disdainful smile. "Go ahead. Call them right now!"
"President Qin, we've both been in the business world for many years now. Surely you have some idea when calling the police works and when it doesn't? Since I came here today, did you really think I'd be afraid of you calling the police?"
Du Dingshan leisurely lit a cigarette and said arrogantly, "Let me be frank. I've already pulled all the necessary strings. That means no one will answer your calls for help, no matter who you cry out to. Seeing as I've made such a grand entrance today, do you really think it's possible for me to leave without the contract I want?"
Du Dingshan blew a puff of smoke toward Qin Qiu and tossed the pen in front of her. "Sign it!"
Qin Qiu's face turned deathly pale, her limbs trembling violently. She had, in fact, anticipated such a scene, but she never expected it to come so quickly or so dangerously, catching her completely off guard.
What should I do? What on earth should I do now?
Seeing that Qin Qiu remained silent, Du Dingshan scanned her from head to toe, a smirk playing on his lips. "They say President Qin is the most beautiful female CEO in Lingjin City. It's certainly not an empty reputation. I'm sure these two subordinates of mine are very interested in you!"
With that, Du Dingshan turned to the two young men. "Am I right?"
"Of course," the two men chimed in, flashing lecherous smiles at Qin Qiu.
"Du Dingshan, you bastard!" Qin Qiu roared, clenching her teeth in rage.
Du Dingshan just laughed. "You think that's being a bastard? I have far worse methods."
"You... you..." Qin Qiu's whole body trembled with anger. Her face was ashen, and while her eyes blazed with fury, a flicker of despair shot through them.
It's come to this. Who could possibly help me now?
The first person she thought of was Chen Yang, but...
Never mind that Chen Yang went to Zheng Xiaoman's house. Even if he were here, what could he possibly do?
At that thought, Qin Qiu began to consider conceding. Despite her bitterness and reluctance, what other choice did she have?
In a world dominated by power, you often have no choice but to bow your head.
"What's the matter, President Qin? Still hesitating?" Du Dingshan asked with an amused smile, clearly in no hurry.
"Shut up!" Qin Qiu shot him a cold glare and picked up the contract from the desk.
"Very good!" Seeing her give in, Du Dingshan slapped his thigh and laughed heartily. "President Qin, wouldn't it have been better to do this from the start? Why did you have to force my hand?"
"You're taking seventy percent?" After reading the terms, Qin Qiu stared at Du Dingshan in disbelief. "Didn't we agree last time on a fifty-fifty split? Why has it suddenly changed to you taking seventy percent?"
Generally, a fifty-fifty split between production and distribution was already a bad deal for the producer. A thirty-seventy split wasn't just unusual; it was outright extortion.
"As you said yourself, President Qin, that was last time." Facing her furious gaze, Du Dingshan simply brushed it off, flicking his cigarette ash. "How could last time be the same as this time? You should be grateful for the thirty percent I'm giving you out of charity. You should treasure the opportunity and get to work. Otherwise, you won't see a single cent!"
Du Dingshan winked at Qin Qiu, his smile brimming with amusement.
Qin Qiu clenched the contract tightly, the veins on the back of her hand bulging. Her eyes looked ready to spit fire. If she really only took thirty percent, after deducting the costs of labor, raw materials, and everything else, there would be practically nothing left. In other words, she would be serving as Du Dingshan's unpaid laborer.
"What are you spacing out for? Sign the damn thing now!" Du Dingshan's voice rose an octave as he spoke coldly.
Qin Qiu's body trembled, tears of humiliation welling in her eyes.
This is going too far!
"Sign my ass!"
A sudden, furious shout tore through the one-sided confrontation. As the words still echoed in the air, an enraged man stormed in.
Who else could it be but Chen Yang?
Qin Qiu's eyes suddenly brightened, and she instinctively cried out, "Chen Yang." Instantly, her beautiful eyes turned red and began to well up with tears. It was a completely visceral reaction.
Du Dingshan raised an eyebrow. Then, as if remembering something, he bared his teeth in a grin. "So you're that worthless freeloader Chen Yang who married into the Qin Family?"
"Who gave you permission to smoke in here?" Chen Yang's heart was already burning with rage for arriving late. He pointed at Du Dingshan. "Put out that damned cigarette, now!"
Unmoved, Du Dingshan took another deep drag before blowing a cloud of smoke right at Chen Yang. Then, he waved a lazy hand at his men. "Go on. Make him kneel."
"Yes, Mr. Du!"
"Right!"
The two young men smirked and walked straight toward Chen Yang.
WHOOSH.
A sudden gust of wind swept through the office, sending papers flying and making the distant curtains rustle loudly.
THUD! THUD!
Two dull thuds echoed through the room as the two young men were sent flying, crashing heavily against the wall.
Du Dingshan stared, his eyes bulging as if he'd seen a ghost.
What... what kind of skill was that?
Seeing Chen Yang walking toward him, every nerve in Du Dingshan's body tensed up. "What... what do you want?"
In a few quick strides, Chen Yang was upon him. He seized him by the throat, snatched the half-burnt cigarette from his fingers, and ground it out on his face.
TSSSS!
Du Dingshan gritted his teeth in agony but couldn't make a sound.
Chen Yang's gaze was glacial. "Forcing my wife to sign a contract? Smoking in my wife's office?"
As his words fell, Chen Yang raised his right hand high and brought it cracking across Du Dingshan's face.
CRACK!
The slap sent Du Dingshan flying several meters.
Chen Yang walked over to Qin Qiu. "Honey, are you okay?"
Qin Qiu threw herself into his arms and hugged him tightly. The tears she had been holding back finally streamed down her face.
Chen Yang gently patted her back, his expression pained as he consoled her. "It's alright. I'm here now."
But within his eyes, a glint of absolute coldness shimmered.
Damn them! Anyone who makes my wife shed a tear deserves to die!
"Good! You're very good!" Du Dingshan struggled back to his feet. He glanced out the floor-to-ceiling window, then shot a vicious glare at Chen Yang. "Look outside! My Martial Department is on its way. I'd like to see how you deal with them!"
