Gu Qianchen couldn't stay still anymore.
He jolted up from his seat with a stunned look on his face.
"Old friend… your master, you said he was seventeen, right?" he asked shakily.
"Yes." Werner's face also betrayed shock.
They had thought Grey must have something else up his sleeve to be so confident when he said he would conquer the Southern Region in a single day.
They never would have expected him to actually enter a battle with the City Lord of Mandate Province, who was a pseudo 3rd ranker.
They knew better than anyone how strong Grey had been before going to the east to evolve into a level one 2nd ranker.
Even in the best case, he should only have been able to reach the 4th level of the 2nd rank using his core essence.
"He's fighting a pseudo 3rd ranker using only his energy, and it's a stalemate," Alissa murmured.
She knew Grey's abilities well and knew this wasn't even close to his full strength.
Where was his halo? It was nowhere to be seen.
He hadn't even used his time ability yet.
And the markings that appeared when he exceeded his limits weren't present either.
He was holding a stalemate with just his base energy.
'A being far surpassing true dragons and gods.' Lia stared at the screen with narrowed eyes.
However, at the same time, a new thought arose in everyone's mind.
Sure, he had reached a stalemate with a pseudo 3rd ranker in terms of raw energy suppression.
But could he fight him head-on?
If anything, injuring a 3rd ranker was extremely difficult, and they believed it would be even harder to actually win, even with all of Grey's arsenal.
Because at the end of the day, a 3rd ranker's energy storage was said to be limitless.
As long as nothing happened to their core, they could continue spamming abilities endlessly unless the ambient energy of the world itself was sealed off.
The core was essentially a motor that constantly absorbed cosmic energy.
"Should we go there?" Alissa couldn't help but ask, worry flickering across her cold face.
It was rare to see her show concern, but she cared about Grey more than she realized.
"Go there and then what?" Valeria shook her head with a smile. "We should have faith in Grey."
"He isn't the type to jump into fights without knowing he'll win. That's something I understood after the High Order incident. He was fully confident he could clear the High Order on his own. In fact, even without us, he could've done everything himself. Even when the High Order attack spread to the Three Guards Province, he was prepared for that as well."
She shook her head and spoke calmly. "He will win."
"That's my trust in him."
Everyone was slightly surprised by Valeria's words.
But then again, Werner understood her very well.
That was when Little Hong spoke up.
She had been focused on her tablet, watching cartoons with such intensity that she hadn't paid attention to anything around her.
But she had clearly heard the discussion about her father.
She stared at the TV with her cute face for a brief moment before speaking.
"Grey will be fine."
Everyone immediately glanced toward her, including Gu Qianchen.
He had been paying special attention to Little Hong.
He had noticed her the moment he descended and had remained wary of her ever since.
As a 3rd ranker, he could sense it clearly.
She wasn't a normal child.
Her power surpassed everyone in the room, excluding his own.
However, when he probed further, he realized the power she currently displayed wasn't even her full capability.
She held far more power than one could imagine.
Gu Qianchen seriously wondered whether this little girl was the reincarnation of a 4th rank being.
However, he quickly dismissed the thought.
How could that be possible?
Was reincarnation really that easy?
As the overseer of the Southern Region, he held a high status in the floating cities.
He was also a major magistrate of one of those cities.
Although outsiders called them floating cities, within their own ranks they were known as the Ten Floating Islands.
And he was a city magistrate of one of those islands.
As the disciple of a 4th ranker, he understood this better than most.
Reincarnation required the Reincarnation Cup.
It was a special artifact discovered beneath the Ten Floating Islands ages ago, and it had since been heavily restricted and sealed within the Federation vault.
It required a tremendous amount of energy to function and had special, hidden requirements to activate.
This was a secret known only to a handful of people.
Gu Qianchen was one of them.
That was why he knew this girl wasn't a reincarnated being.
If she were, the artifact would have detected her long ago.
The cup also possessed the ability to identify those who had reincarnated through it.
Then what exactly was this little girl?
It was a pressing matter.
Even his old friend knew nothing about her.
Still, Gu Qianchen was a man of patience.
After years of surviving in this world, he had learned when to wait.
He decided to wait for City Lord Grey to arrive and ask him personally.
Then, they heard Little Hong speak again.
"Grey is a perfect being. He cannot be stopped by a normal pseudo 3rd ranker."
She stared at the screen, analyzing calmly.
Sometimes, despite her small and innocent appearance, her words were the complete opposite.
This was one of those times.
Her memories weren't absolute.
Whatever surfaced in her mind at that moment would slip out.
"A perfect being…" Gu Qianchen couldn't help but glance at Grey Lockhart once more.
Then he nodded calmly and spoke.
"If anything happens to him, I'll step in myself."
Gu Qianchen was the overseer.
He had enough authority to intervene in a challenge battle between two City Lords if necessary.
Of course, he wouldn't act unless something truly happened to Grey Lockhart.
Grey could not be harmed.
He was his old friend's master.
How could he allow that?
At the same time, he was also curious.
Would Grey truly conquer the Southern Region?
He looked forward to seeing how everything would unfold.
