Dawn of a New Era

Chapter 350: Liar

The nuclear submarine's propulsion method is powered by generating electricity through a nuclear reactor and then using that electricity for propulsion.

However, during the mutation, a series of changes caused the circuit system originally specified for strategic nuclear submarines to malfunction, rendering all electronic equipment inoperative. Even though the nuclear reactor could still operate, it completely lost power.

Chen Shouyi felt a chill in his heart; as Great Xia Country's strategic deterrent force, nuclear submarines are always equipped with nuclear warheads: "Does the naval base on Qinggang City know the location of the nuclear submarine?"

"No, prior to the second mutation, satellite communications had already failed. The nuclear submarine had just completed resupply before the incident and set out from Qinggang City on a mission, specific location unknown to anyone; however, it can't be ruled out that they might have found it, or even obtained the nuclear warheads inside!" Luo Jingwen said.

Indeed, this is a world with mysterious forces. If the Barbarian God intervenes...

Chen Shouyi felt a heavy heart, now only hoping the situation wouldn't worsen to that extent.

The trio quickly left Qujiang City, encountering several blockade checkpoints on the highway, guarded by groups of Southeast Asians carrying weapons, where occasional sight of Barbarians could still be seen.

These Barbarians wore human clothing, generally taller and fiercer than ordinary Barbarians, standing over two meters in height.

Chen Shouyi's face turned grim.

Yet in the end, they bypassed it from afar.

Approaching noon, the group finally arrived at Qinggang City.

Qinggang is a port city, ranked only as a third-tier city in Great Xia Country, yet it is one of Great Xia's nine major military ports, holding significant strategic importance.

However, now the entire city is in ruins, debris and remnants everywhere, as if it had experienced warfare not long ago.

Passing by a ruin, a group of ragged humans were sweating profusely cleaning up rubble, their faces numb, while dozens of armed Southeast Asians patrolled back and forth.

Zhu Xueqing couldn't hold her breath, grabbing a hurried young lady: "Hello, can I ask who they are?"

"Sla... slaves!" The young lady seemed nervous, seeing the three with an imposing aura and carrying swords.

"What did they do wrong?"

"Don't you know... they're all obstinate, desecrating my Lord. Their whole family was deprived and reduced to slaves!" The young lady said in surprise, isn't this knowledge known by all, she instinctively glanced at their Divine Emblem which reflected that of ordinary civilians.

A hint of an unusual light flashed in her eyes as excitement began to stir.

In the society governed by the God of Order Church, the cold and harsh order was reflected everywhere.

Everyone's status was clear.

Slaves, civilians, devotees, warriors, priests, all had distinct statuses that couldn't be crossed.

Civilians couldn't migrate freely or carry weapons; only the Defender Army had the rights to bear arms.

Clearly, these people were either underground resistors or spies sent by the country to gather intelligence.

Chen Shouyi sensitively detected her anomaly, quietly approached.

"Don't… don't misunderstand, I'm not one of those lunatics, let's talk somewhere else." The young lady seemed aware of something, cautiously glanced around, whispered hurriedly.

The three exchanged glances, Luo Jingwen nodded slightly.

Soon, the group arrived at a quiet park, before any inquiry, the young lady exclaimed excitedly:

"Are you dispatched by the nation, when can you rescue us?"

Luo Jingwen nodded, calmly said: "We are indeed dispatched to investigate the situation here, but determining when to rescue you all is beyond us, although the more intelligence we collect, the more hope for victory in the war. We hope you can cooperate with our inquiry and tell us everything you know!"

Hearing this, the young lady's excitement cooled, sighed in disappointment, suppressed her voice: "What do you want to ask?"

"How did you recognize us?"

"With how you asked, anyone would know you are outsiders, plus your emblems are incorrect!" the young lady said.

She then explained the differences between each tier's emblems; Chen Shouyi realized his oversight, but due to the similarities at first glance, those who noticed avoided unnecessary trouble, otherwise they might have been exposed.

"Are there many who persist like you?" Luo Jingwen asked solemnly.

"Are you referring to nonbelievers? No idea, even if one is disbelieving, they would project a firm belief, I don't know how long I can hold on either, maybe half a year, maybe a few days!"

Chen Shouyi remained silent.

"What about the garrison here?"

"They were either killed or captured and reduced to slaves. There are fewer here, many are in mining areas and suburban factories!" The young lady sighed, continued: "Half a year ago, the God of Order descended, the army collapsed within a day, followed by a large influx of Southeast Asians and Barbarians landing here, quickly taking control."

As she spoke, Chen Shouyi clearly saw the profound reverence, along with fear, on her face.

"Have the Barbarians and Southeast Asians exhibited any strange acts at sea in the past half year?"

"I don't know about that!"

"Please think carefully, this intelligence is crucial to the nation."

"I truly don't know! As a civilian, how could I know such things?" said the young lady.

Luo Jingwen continued questioning for a while, then let her go.

She, being an ordinary person, couldn't gather much more.

Soon after, the young lady hurriedly left.

Zhu Xueqing asked: "What do we do next?"

"Let's change emblems first, then head to the military port to check it out. Chen Shouyi, what do you think?" Luo Jingwen said.

"You are experienced, I have no objections."

He might handle killing, but not this sort of matter.

The other was an established Martial Artist with countless accomplished missions, no way he, a new Martial Artist, could compare in experience.

...

In a small alley, four Southeast Asians walked together, chatting and laughing.

"Max, heard you bought another beautiful female slave, you already have five, can you handle it, be careful you don't weaken your legs." A dark-skinned, short, stocky middle-aged man laughed.

"I'm strong enough, ten times a night won't be an issue."

"You sure boast to the heavens." That stocky middle-aged man asked another: "Ah Lai, how come you haven't bought one, you aren't short on money."

"Lust is a bladed knife, I don't want to ruin my Martial Arts, still aim to become a Martial Artist!" a young man grinned, said.

"Still, Ah Lai has big ambitions, once you become a Martial Artist, at least you can be a captain, don't forget to treat us to drinks." a youth who appeared of Chinese descent said.

"Don't joke with me, Brother Huang, you're already a prospective Martial Artist, within one or two years, you'll certainly become one."

"Just afraid we won't last, having occupied East Sea Province, Great Xia Country surely won't let things settle, we might all end up on the front lines."

"Afraid of what? Great Xia Country may be strong, but the great God of Order is above all. Even the powerful United States is just like scarecrows before a god. Surely Great Xia wouldn't drop a nuclear bomb here, it's full of Great Xia's own people."

"A nuclear bomb surely won't be dropped here but that's not guaranteed with our country," said the Chinese descent youth, sighed.

Everyone was stunned, even under the blazing sun, chills ran through them.

Invading the world's second strongest country, still a nuclear power possessing over 10,000 nuclear warheads.

In the past half year, they knew full well how many they killed, and when war comes, nothing will stop the fury of their revenge. If war arrives, their country will likely be erased forever.

"Thud!"

"Thud!"

...

Just then, a sudden gust sent those speaking sprawling to the ground, the youth of Chinese descent showed a horrified expression before a giant hand like forged iron clutched his throat, lifted him entirely.

His face flushed red, gasping loudly, struggling desperately, punching, kicking.

But the opponent stood unmoved as if rooted, his heart sinking into a bottomless pit.

"A Xia Country person?"

The youth frantically nodded, grasping at a chance.

"You're lying!"

In the next moment, a crisp sound of "crack" echoed by his ear, in blurred consciousness, that phrase reverberated in his mind.

Chen Shouyi removed the emblem from his chest, tossed the corpse aside.

He glanced, indeed noticing some difference, not just more refined, but also with silver embedded within the tribe of the eyes.

He discarded the former medal, crumpled it, threw it on the ground, and donned the new emblem.

Zhu Xueqing quickly came over to assist with corpse disposal, surprised: "You are quick!"

"Normal," Chen Shouyi humbly said, then saw Luo Jingwen at the alley's entrance gesture a sign, telling Zhu Xueqing, "Someone is coming, let's hurry."

Chen Shouyi spoke as he opened the sewer cover, grabbed a corpse, stuffed it in.

The two cooperated, seconds later, four corpses already were handled.
