Hidden Moth

Chapter 63: Outsourcing

From last night until now, Gu Yunteng hasn't rested at all.

Zhao Hai Zhen is planning to make a move soon, wanting to set a trap using Zhou Du's son, He Kao, and Gu Yunteng can guess it. He's also heard about the recent Hidden Moth incident causing an uproar, including the death of Lin Hua Lei and the disappearance of Liang Kai.

But he doesn't know when Zhao Hai Zhen will act or where he'll take them. It's not that he's incapable; he just doesn't want to know and hasn't asked on purpose.

As a Tier Two Broker, he's very good at business. With his current wealth and status, many things no longer require his hands-on involvement; he only needs the result.

As for the risks and costs associated with obtaining this result, it's best if they're someone else's concern.

There's a term now, called "outsourcing."

Zhao Hai Zhen approached him a while ago, claiming to want to deal with some issues in Qi Yuan City and hoped he would lend a hand. Gu Yunteng wholeheartedly agreed.

Thirty years ago, he was able to rise because the identity as a Magic Sect Disciple helped him greatly. As he gained more wealth and higher status, he could exchange for more things.

Over the years, whenever the Magic Sect's Members approached him for help, he tried to assist as much as he could. After all, isn't it right to reciprocate rather than only take? It's a fundamental principle.

He could guess what Zhao Hai Zhen wanted to do but expressed that he's purely helping without prying into Zhao Hai Zhen's matters.

He just provided Zhao Hai Zhen with Old Hong's contact information, telling Zhao Hai Zhen to look for Old Hong and to pass on that things should be done following the rules.

Following the rules means taking what compensation should be taken, but keeping a tight lip and being reliable in tasks. Don't say what shouldn't be said, and don't ask about things that shouldn't be asked.

On the surface, it seems like advising adherence to laws.

Old Hong has been with Gu Yunteng for nearly twenty years, specializing in handling various dirty jobs. Almost no one knew their relationship back then, and few know it now.

Old Hong was originally in the police force, and that was when Gu Yunteng started "cultivating" him. Later, Old Hong got into trouble, almost got stripped of his police badge and went to jail, which Gu Yunteng managed to prevent.

Old Hong is thoroughly loyal to Gu Yunteng.

After leaving the police, Old Hong worked as a security manager at Joy Valley, then moved to a subsidiary of Bada Group, all through legitimate recruitment processes, outwardly unrelated to Gu Yunteng.

Back in the day, Gu Yunteng had a lot of people who could handle dirty work, some were cultivated by him, others were external hires specifically to deal with matters that couldn't officially be managed, but now only Old Hong and his crew remain.

If the remaining people are difficult to place, they're assigned under Old Hong, given a job and a salary.

The root of this all stems from the end of an era when wild profits from dirty businesses were made.

Times have changed; there's no need to maintain so many thugs. It's not viable to do so openly, and many issues can be resolved by the legal team.

Transitioning from thugs to legal teams signifies progress for both the times and Gu Yunteng.

Since Gu Yunteng provided Zhao Hai Zhen with convenience, he also took the opportunity to ask Zhao Hai Zhen for help. He recently heard that He Kao's father left a deposit box and wants to know what's inside, especially if there's any document material.

If there is, it's best to retrieve the original and control its distribution.

Of course, he didn't ask Zhao Hai Zhen to do anything illegal. How to achieve the goal is up to Zhao Hai Zhen, just like a delivery platform won't blatantly ask couriers to violate traffic rules.

He had also asked Qian Guran to help with this, but Qian Guran insisted that the deposit box only contained property deeds and a pair of golden paperweights, no materials at all.

Perhaps because Qian Guran was so unequivocal, Gu Yunteng didn't believe it. When He Kao opened the deposit box at the bank, Qian Guran wasn't present, his certainty seemed like he was covering something up.

Moreover, Qian Guran claimed to be in Pingjing, calling about the matter, which seemed too deliberate, probably avoiding face-to-face communication. Both sorcerers of the Qi Observation Sect, although Qian Guran's cultivation is slightly higher, he's still quite naive.

Gu Yunteng felt very angry, thinking this a betrayal. He's helped Qian Guran with many "small favors," and now when he asks Qian Guran for a small favor, and Qian Guran agreed, he shouldn't deceive him.

Beyond anger, he's also slightly worried and cautious. If Qian Guran wasn't honest, it proves that the material indeed exists. What is this fellow apprentice hiding the information for?

This worry is also one of the reasons he chose to cooperate with Zhao Hai Zhen.

But last night, Qian Guran unexpectedly visited, actually to ask him for someone. Because He Kao went missing, along with one of He Kao's colleagues.

Gu Yunteng didn't have an impression of Gao Xue'e. If she's a female colleague, she must have been involved with He Kao at the time and was taken away by Zhao Hai Zhen... Apparently, Zhao Hai Zhen chose to act today.

How could such a serious criminal act be related to him, Gu Yunteng? It's not like he instructed Zhao Hai Zhen to do it! So he clearly told Qian Guran that he didn't know a thing about it.

Then Gu Yunteng turned the question back: "Xiaoqian, was there really no material in that deposit box?"
