Hidden Moth

Chapter 55: As Fierce as a Battle (Part 3)

He had a rifle slung around his waist and was actually holding a crossbow in his hand, something only seen in online videos.

He Kao: "So quickly, all done?"

Masked Man: "We're all men, what's quick about it? It's already been a long time, you're home! Where's President E?"

He Kao: "She's taking a bath, just went in."

"Then she shouldn't be able to hear." The masked man shook the crossbow in his hand and said, "There really were people on the other side of Sanxi Bridge, they wanted to ambush me with this thing. Hearing the noise, they came over the mountain through a small path, but I took care of them.

Outside of President E's home, and indeed over at E-Times District, there were people watching too. They even called some kidnapper. Unfortunately, that call came to me, and I just happened to use this to take the person away.

All the kidnappers who saw us tonight should have been dealt with. The car in the yard can't stay either. I'll drive it away later to deal with, but someone surely heard the gunfire in the amusement park.

This is my first time doing something like this, and it'll be my last. I don't want anyone to find out... I can dispose of the shell casings and bodies, but it's hard to erase all traces. You're cautious, think about what else can be done?"

He Kao: "With your skills, let me think... It was only tonight that I discovered gunfire and the sound of fireworks and bangers are really similar, especially when heard from a distance... On October first in the early morning, people were setting off fireworks in the fields here."

The masked man's eyes lit up: "There's still plenty of fireworks and bangers upstairs, I'll handle this."

Saying that, he was about to go upstairs when He Kao shouted: "Wait, is there anything else I can help with?"

Masked Man: "The car outside, even if I drive it back, you'll need to drive it back too once President E is resting. Drive it into that bunker, you know where it is, keep driving in until you can't go further, then come back and wait for me."

The masked man went upstairs. After a while, Gao Xue'e came out after her bath, with her hair wrapped in a towel, her clothes being a bit too large. Clearly they covered her figure, but ironically, they made her figure more noticeable.

She was just about to speak when suddenly fireworks noise came from afar again, scaring her so much she fell softly into He Kao's arms.

He Kao held her and said, "Don't be afraid, those people have already been dealt with! There's fireworks outside, hiding today's gunfire noise. You rest first, I still need to handle some things.

Rest assured, we're safe now... after a good night's sleep, everything will be over."

Although He Kao's house had three floors, there were only two bedrooms that could be slept in. One big bedroom used to be his grandfather's, the other small bedroom was where He Kao usually stayed... Gao Xue'e chose the small bedroom.

She still didn't quite dare to be alone, but was too embarrassed to ask He Kao not to leave to "handle things," just gripping his clothes without letting go.

He Kao had no choice but to sit by the bed, watching her fall asleep. She was utterly exhausted, and once relaxed, she fell asleep almost instantly. He Kao placed her hand under the quilt before getting up to leave.

As soon as he stood up, he staggered, feeling soreness all over his body. He was quite exhausted today too, especially carrying Gao Xue'e along the way; he didn't feel it at the time, but it hit him now.

He Kao, full of aches and pains, went to drive the car, locking up before leaving.

He usually hid a key to the courtyard gate behind the gate, reachable through the gap below. The house key he hid in the yard.

This was a habit left by his grandfather, to prevent He Kao from being unable to enter if he didn't bring a key, not even his eldest aunt knew. He Kao maintained this habit, even after changing the locks.

Usually unnecessary, it's just a means of nostalgia.

The masked man seemed confident as if everything was under control, yet he was careless in considering matters. He told He Kao to wait at home, reminding him to pick up the key and find a car, without realizing He Kao had no house key on him.

Luckily, He Kao could handle it himself.

Driving back to Joy Valley, He Kao continuously heard the sound of firecrackers coming from different directions, as if an intense battle took place. Someone was setting off fireworks and bangers in varying locations, definitely waking many people. Pugang Town has numerous residents bound to be cursing.
