Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 96: The Banished North American Gray Wolves

Chen Wen and Hua Yun on this side.

After a brief panic, the two calmed down.

"In other words, we really have to survive now."

Chen Wen said with a chuckle, "If we can make it back alive, we will definitely become famous."

"Aren't you worried?"

Hua Yun glanced at Chen Wen and noticed that he seemed quite relaxed.

"Maybe at first a little, but now I can only say it's ordinary. We came here to survive, and now we just lack the final protection. Currently, our food is rich, supplies are abundant, and even if we leave, we can make it back to the second town."

Chen Wen spoke lightly.

His positive mindset influenced Hua Yun, who no longer felt the initial panic.

"But we don't need to go through great efforts to head back. Let's go check out the camp of the program crew."

Hua Yun suggested, "No matter what the crew thinks, we really need help now, and they are the closest and fastest people who can provide it."

There was nothing wrong with what was said.

Chen Wen nodded and said, "Then let's stick to the original plan, continue moving forward, but detour to the campsite when we arrive and ask them what's going on."

"Also, let's inform them about what we've discovered and have them notify the government. We should withdraw from the competition directly."

Hua Yun added another point.

Chen Wen nodded slightly.

After making a plan, the two continued surviving, with Hua Yun setting up a tree shelter and Chen Wen making a fire and cooking below.

As the snow melted, Chen Wen put the smoked meat in and made meat soup.

At the same time, he placed the bought bread near the campfire to heat.

Soon, the aroma of meat and bread began to waft through the air.

Three carnivorous animals also gathered around Chen Wen, while the reindeer used its hooves to stir through the forest's accumulated snow, searching for tender branches and moss buried under it.

With a crack, Hua Yun broke some spruce branches and jumped down from the tree.

As she continued feeding the tender branches to the reindeer, she kept the older branches for firewood and then sat by the campfire.

"It'll be ready soon."

Chen Wen checked the pot and gave some bread to Hua Yun.

The bread, slightly charred, didn't look appealing, but it was the main food supply.

Spread with bought mayonnaise, it had a pretty complete composition of carbohydrates, fats, and other elements.

"I was just thinking."

Chen Wen began, mouth full of bread, "Could there be a connection between our communication breakdown and those suspected trespassers?"

Hua Yun remarked, a bit surprised, "Connection? Probably not, it just feels coincidental."

Coincidences are always unpredictable.

Chen Wen said, "I hope I'm overthinking, but the crew might know something. Did you research about the program crew before?"

"I did. Director Abel is somewhat in the circle. He used to shoot wildlife documentaries, like the famous 'Dynasty,' which was done by him..."

Hua Yun was in the middle of talking when Chen Wen, a bit excited, interrupted, "He did that?"

"It was his mentor!"

Hua Yun said helplessly, "Looks like you're a fan of 'Dynasty' too."

"Of course, it's a classic documentary."

Chen Wen laughed and returned to the topic, "So Abel probably isn't the problem?"

"Not 100% sure, but 90% not a problem."

Hua Yun confidently said, "He's always wanted to shoot a wilderness survival documentary. If he were to mess up on his first try, he'd be blacklisted."

This reassured Chen Wen a bit: "As long as the director is fine, at least there won't be the same situation as the men's group."

He was referring to the incidents that occurred with the men's group on the deserted island.

Thinking of the men's group's situation, Hua Yun couldn't help but shake her head.

That Mr. Xie seemed to taste the sweetness of live survival broadcasting and was preparing the next shoot.

"Let's hope so."

...

Finished eating, Chen Wen and Hua Yun began their shifts on guard duty.

He climbed the tree to rest first.

The tree shelter was different from land shelters, that sense of suspension was mentally tormenting.

The first time resting in the tree, Chen Wen dreamed of falling out of the tree or stepping into thin air and falling from a cliff.

But after multiple adjustments, Chen Wen was much better now.

He found a comfortable position in the tree and started to rest.

Beneath the tree, Hua Yun looked at the four animals by the campfire, feeling like she had stepped into a fantasy world.

Reindeer, Golden Eagle, Lynx, Snowy Owl.

No matter which animal, they seemed out of place with human society.

She wondered how Chen Wen made it happen.

Until now, Hua Yun hadn't even touched the Snowy Owl.

The Snowy Owl only accepted Chen Wen as the sole human.

While Hua Yun was absentmindedly gazing at the campfire, in the forest, a pack of wandering beasts was slowly approaching.

The North American gray wolf pack!

This was a group of beasts residing in the deep mountain lakes, living by hunting moose and reindeer around the lakes.

But not long ago, a group of two-legged creatures used something strange to drive the moose and reindeer out.

The wolves initially intended to resist or even hunt these unfamiliar bipedal creatures.

But when the alpha wolf saw the bipedal creature using something strange to kill a moose from a great distance.

The North American gray wolves wisely vacated their territory.

They followed the trail of prey, famished.

This evening, the scouts from the wolf pack detected a scent.

As North America's top predator, the gray wolves' sense of smell was incredibly sharp, comparable to a grizzly bear.

They wouldn't miss a hunting chance.

Thus, they took advantage of the night, encircling from the north.

The pack consisted of twelve North American gray wolves, including ten adult and young wolves with combat power.

This was a healthy and peak North Gray pack, formidable enough even for a grizzly to momentarily avoid confrontation.

The roles within the wolf pack were distinctly clear.

Led by the alpha wolf, most of the combat-ready wolves surrounded the alpha silently waiting.

The alpha wolf then communicated with the returned scouts via low growls.

No one knew what the alpha and the scouts discussed.

But when the alpha let out a familiar growl, the pack stirred with excitement.

They were about to hunt!

The pack, driven from its home, was demoralized and needed a successful hunt to boost morale.

The alpha decided to lead the elite pack for hunting, this was no time to hold back.

Moreover, according to the scouts, there seemed to be bipedal creatures among the prey, and only one of them.

The alpha sensed a golden opportunity for revenge.

It growled deeply, and two gray wolves only slightly smaller in size stepped forth.

These were the alpha's right and left hands, its former competitors.

With bared teeth, the alpha emitted unique snarls.

A silver-grey wolf led the way, followed closely by the alpha and another darker North American gray wolf.

After the alpha left, six more North American gray wolves followed the three.

They were the reserve team.

Once the elites identified an optimal target, the reserves would swarm and eliminate the prey.

Meanwhile, an older wolf watched after the two pups.

They did not participate in the hunt.

The pack was orderly, like trained executioners, slowly tightening a noose around the prey's neck.

As soon as the alpha gave the signal, the noose would tighten.

The prey would perish in the hunt.

Historically so.

The alpha was confident.
