Traveler of the River of Time and Space

Chapter 55: Schemes

It's still the same road as before.

Van Helsing walked at the forefront with a dwarf pipe in his mouth, a gift from Lev of the Bear School. The old man seemed to really like it.

As they passed through the dim alley, Su Ziyu once again caught a faint whiff of sulfur. Van Helsing seemed to smell it too and gestured to Su Ziyu, putting his hand on the hilt of his sword as he walked past.

An unconscious young man lay on the ground.

"Not dead. He's just exhausted." Van Helsing checked the young man's breath and then stood up.

Since no one died, there wasn't much to worry about.

Van Helsing wiped his shoe on the young man's clothes and raised an eyebrow, saying, "The Banshees here are pretty well-behaved. They've just drained a bit of his Essence Qi, nothing lethal."

Banshees roam the City of Freedom.

Their leader was the first one Van Helsing and Su Ziyu encountered. Banshees are different from other supernaturals; they don't kill or drink human blood and generally mean no harm. They simply fancy young men and occasionally siphon off some Essence Qi. These creatures have bewitching female appearances and excel in Illusion Techniques that make people overlook their hoofed feet.

Demon Hunters generally don't interfere unless someone dies.

Those with strong wills can resist the Banshees' Charm Illusion Techniques. Demon Hunters remain unaffected unless they willingly choose to experience it. Banshees seldom use force, and interventions in such cases are rare.

The entrance to the Night Queen's brothel remained as desolate as ever.

Unlike last time, Lady Anirella personally stood at the door to greet them. The High Tier vampire of the Moderate Faction seemed to be in good spirits.

"Do come in," Lady Anirella gestured.

Behind her stood about five or six vampire Banshees, all staring hard at Su Ziyu. The one with a particularly innocent look still appeared defiant.

Soon enough.

Van Helsing and Lady Inid followed Anirella upstairs for the negotiations.

According to the agreement, Lady Anirella was to help them secure the status of a City of Freedom council member and also provide a large plot of land to be bought at a relatively cheap price. Su Ziyu wasn't interested in these dirty political deals, and the only suitable candidate for the council was Lady Inid.

As the three headed up, Su Ziyu was soon surrounded by six vampire Banshees.

A fragrant breeze made his nose itch slightly.

"We're back to again this time!" the innocent-looking vampire Banshee said. "Hmph! You got lucky last time, but this time won't be so easy."

"Why the rush," Su Ziyu lazily sat down and said, "I've been here twice now and never had a proper look around."

"You won't even show me around?"

He really hadn't explored a brothel before, especially one from a Medieval Civilization. He was genuinely curious.

"Come with us," the vampire Banshees exchanged glances and chimed, "Perfect timing! Upstairs there's a room dedicated to card games."

The Night Queen's decoration was quite lavish.

The rooms on the second floor were exquisite, draped with pink curtains and filled with many artworks reminiscent of the Roman Era. There were quite a few human servants, all looking rather relaxed and not too fearful of the vampires, just awed.

As Su Ziyu walked past a closed room, he heard faint sounds and stopped, curious to take a look.

He had seen the true form of high-ranking vampires.

To be honest.

They're a bit creepy!

Su Ziyu was curious whether vampires maintained human form when intimate and if they might transform and scare someone to death by accident.

"Want to see?" a alluring vampire Banshee beside him chuckled and casually pushed open the closed door.

The sensual scene Su Ziyu imagined didn't appear. Instead, what he saw was somewhat amusing.

A chubby man was tossing around on the bed inside the room, and on a nearby chair, a scantily clad vampire Banshee watched with a glass in hand. On seeing the door open, she raised her glass in invitation, "Care for a drink? This guy's blood is a bit sweet!"

What's going on?

Is that guy under an illusion?

Su Ziyu glanced at the man's vacant eyes, his mouth twitching slightly. He originally thought that since the vampires ran a brothel, they would uphold a bit of professional ethics.

But never did he expect them to play this trick.

No wonder the Night Queen's business was so deserted. Who would pay twice, once with money, once with blood, just to be fooled by an illusion?

"You didn't naively think we'd actually serve those humans, did you?" the alluring vampire Banshee chuckled, revealing two sharp fangs with an expression that was wicked and playful, "Besides, with those ordinary people's physiques, how could they possibly please us?"

"What if they accidentally got killed?"

Crack.

The vampire Banshee twisted the metal door handle effortlessly, showcasing the astonishing strength of a vampire. Even a grown man would have no hope of resisting.

"Let's play cards!" Su Ziyu hurriedly interrupted her.

These vampires were outright deceiving customers.

But such matters had nothing to do with him. Anyone daring enough to play in a vampire brothel knows they are courting death.

"Do you want to play cards?"

The vampire Banshee who was lounging with a glass jumped up excitedly, "Count me in! Count me in!"

These vampire Banshees were quite addicted to cards. Su Ziyu felt he needed to treat them a bit.

"What about him? Just leave him like that?" Su Ziyu could barely bring himself to look at the man inside.

"No worries," the scantily clad vampire Banshee waved dismissively, "He'll wake up by morning. A servant will come to tidy up later."

Looks like they have this routine down pat here.

Su Ziyu turned towards the large room upfront while the vampire Banshees giggled, casually closed the door, and gestured for a servant to clean up a few minutes later. The Night Queen's vampires knew their limits and rarely took lives. At most, a bit of blood loss left someone weak for a few days.

In the spacious, well-lit room.

Su Ziyu sat alone across the table, facing seven vampire Banshees who were all serious and on guard.

A legendary game of Gwent Card began.
