Finally, there was some progress.
Su Ziyu returned to his residence, satisfied, and prepared to set off for Sanhe Province tomorrow, starting with the seemingly weakest demon, the mountain child.
As for the other two demons, the New Bride, also known as the spider bride, is a legendary creature for hundreds of years; her strength is likely a notch higher than the mountain child, probably not easy to deal with. The last one, Qing Ji, is even more peculiar; she is a demon placed in the latter volume of the Hundred Tales, not on the same level as the previous two at all.
Love turning into obsession.
Qing Ji's story is quite tragic, an extreme love transforming into extreme hate, with the ending being that Qing Ji transformed into a demon, burning herself and her beloved to death together.
——"If I can't live with my beloved, then we'll die together."
Qing Ji won't actively harm others, but it's said that men who have encountered her were all burned to cinders.
An alleged great demon with the head of a human and the body of a snake (dragon).
A night quickly passed.
Su Ziyu got out of bed only when the sun rose; just as he woke up, the innkeeper brought in water for him to wash.
"Guest, the tuna you wanted has been bought."
"I'll bring it to you in a while," the innkeeper said softly, kneeling in front of him.
Su Ziyu was particularly generous here, paying directly with gold. In the last world, he replenished his working capital a bit; he still has about a hundred pounds of gold in his hand. If the other dimensional space wasn't limited in size, Su Ziyu would have taken even more gold.
"Alright, got it." Su Ziyu simply washed his face and said.
It seemed there were new guests at the inn. When Su Ziyu went out, he saw two traveling merchants sitting in the corner eating. Upon seeing Su Ziyu, they quickly lowered their heads; he was clearly a nobleman, and they dared not offend him.
"Hey, have you heard?"
"Kyoto is haunted!" the merchant on the left lowered his voice and said, "Even Abe no Seimei can't do anything about it."
"The entire Vermilion Bird Dao is now blocked."
The merchant on the right was startled upon hearing this and whispered, "Really? Then what about my goods?"
"Sell them somewhere else," the other merchant cautioned, "People have died! Money is still less important than life. If you lose your life, why need so much money?"
"I've heard some nobility have fled Kyoto overnight."
"They say you might even encounter ghosts on Vermilion Bird Dao during the day!"
The situation in Kyoto really has worsened.
Su Ziyu was not surprised by this outcome. He listened briefly to the two merchants' conversation and then rose to walk toward the backyard. He had no intention of dealing with the situation in Kyoto for now; his plan was to retreat behind the scenes and wait for things to unfold. Maybe when the time is right, the mastermind would reveal themself.
Besides, the Netherworld is still hunting him; he'll leave this mess for the local residents to handle themselves.
"Guest."
"This is locally brewed plum wine; I'm not sure if you like it." Two girls around fourteen or fifteen years old came over with a tray, cautiously speaking.
The innkeeper noticed that yesterday's sake had gone untouched, so today she specifically procured some top-grade plum wine from elsewhere.
Such a careful person; no wonder business here is good.
"Leave it here." Su Ziyu looked at the plum wine and pastries in front of him, smiling.
This wine is quite good.
Much tastier than yesterday's sake, the taste somewhat reminds him of the bayberry wine brewed back home.
Just as Su Ziyu was about to eat something, an old man walked into the inn; he was bald, wearing a shiny outfit indicating stature, draped in a black haori and bearing a tachi on his waist for defense. His aura was quite imposing. This elder naturally walked into the inn, seemingly unnoticed by others, even the innkeeper brushed past him while carrying food as though completely unaware, without any sign of greeting.
The old man behaved as if he were at home, ignoring everyone else, and entered the backyard, sitting down heavily in front of Su Ziyu.
He poured himself a cup of plum wine and praised, "Good wine!"
"It's been so long since I've had such fine wine."
In an instant.
Su Ziyu's hair stood on end; he instinctively rested his hand on the hilt of the Meteor, frowning as he stared at the elder who had appeared before him out of nowhere, drinking wine on his own, and asked in a deep voice, "Who are you?"
Completely unnoticed.
No anomalies were detected in his perception; the elder seemed to appear out of thin air, and only when Su Ziyu reacted did he realize this unexpected guest's presence.
Yet, upon thinking carefully, he recalls hearing footsteps earlier.
Some unknown force had influenced his perception, making Su Ziyu entirely ignore this detail, and only when the elder spoke did he detect the unexpected guest in front of him.
This is a truly frightening ability.
Given Su Ziyu's degree of perception enhancement, achieving this would not be simple for the elder.
"This lamb is roasted nicely!" The bald elder before him seemed indifferent to his words, picking up slices of meat and putting them in his mouth, ready to feast.
He didn't exhibit any obvious malice.
If he intended to attack, he would have done so already.
Su Ziyu's expression calmed a bit; he rested his hand, looking at the bald elder curiously and asking, "What kind of demon are you?"
