Rumble!
A violent explosion sounded.
A building within the Corpse Demon Club collapsed instantly, accompanied by fierce gunfire. A massive black shadow flashed by with incredible speed, standing five meters tall, its muscles bulging, with six tentacles extending from its arms. The bald head seemed parasitized by something, with five-centimeter diameter nodules visible.
It completely ignored the gunfire, in an instant its tentacles swelled and extended over ten meters, grabbing two black men holding guns. The tentacles pierced their bodies, and in just a couple of breaths, the two of them were reduced to mere skeletons.
"What is this monster?"
"Rocket launcher?"
"Who the hell has a rocket launcher? Set up the heavy machine gun!"
A grenade was thrown over.
This mutant appeared to be different from other monsters, seeming to recognize the grenade, it flicked its tentacles and sent it flying back.
Whoosh!
A rocket shot out.
The monster seemed to hear it and, the instant the rocket was launched, crashed into a house. A violent explosion ensued, and a massive shadow leapt up, with tentacles twisting off three people's heads upon landing.
In just a short time, the entire Corpse Demon Club was in chaos.
The sound of fierce crossfire was everywhere.
Some people attempted to drive out, but that monstrosity didn't want anyone to escape, wrapping a truck with tentacles and throwing it at the entrance, blocking the road entirely. The truck weighed an estimated over ten tons, lifted effortlessly by the monster, which even had spare energy to wrap a car with its left tentacle, using it like a shield to block the frenzied bullets.
It seemed to possess intelligence.
"Daddy?"
"What happened over there?" A little girl's voice came, slightly nervous.
Su Ziyu pondered for a moment, suddenly swerving the car onto a small hill, about five or six hundred meters from the Corpse Demon Club. From this height, the situation inside could still be seen.
Thick smoke billowed throughout the Corpse Demon Club, and even from this distance, the sound of explosions could be heard incessantly.
"Stay in the car," Su Ziyu turned to say, then picked up the Gauss Sniper Rifle and jumped onto the car's roof.
Close-quarter combat was impossible.
But at this distance, he could still fire a couple of shots. If the situation turned bad, he could drive away at any moment.
——"Super Mutant [Frenzy][Hatching][Chaotic Mind]!"
Su Ziyu raised the scope and quickly caught sight of a fleeting shadow, rampaging through the entire Corpse Demon Club. A monster flashed on the rooftop, seemingly released Corpse Ghosts, but it looked more like mutated Living Corpse Ghosts. Unlike Polaris, most people mixed in the Corpse Demon Club were heavily irradiated, one step from radiation mutation.
Yet their firepower was equally fierce.
Bang!
Su Ziyu heard the sound of tank fire, followed by three armed helicopters appearing from somewhere, the roar of heavy machine guns echoing across the battlefield, tearing buildings down in a single barrage.
This place was full of raiders and gang members, Su Ziyu even saw someone on the city wall setting up a mortar.
Unfortunately, they were facing a Super Mutant.
The Super Mutant seemed to retain some intelligence, as a car was hurled out, instantly taking down the first armed helicopter. Then the tentacles extended wildly, piercing the helicopter's metal shell and dragging it down.
This Super Mutant looked even more formidable than the one in Polaris!
Su Ziyu wasn't in a hurry to fire now because the people in the Corpse Demon Club were fiercely fighting it. The Super Mutant was an incredibly difficult creature to kill, and he wasn't confident in a one-shot kill. Better to let them fight for a while.
Wasteland World's monsters were not like others.
Elsewhere monsters' strength lay in possessing special Supernatural Abilities, but Wasteland World's monsters relied mainly on terrifying mutated bodies for combat.
Who's stronger isn't clear.
But Wasteland World's Mutants were undoubtedly hard to kill. Worlds with higher Civilization Levels had an inherent imbalance in offense and defense: weapons were developed to the extreme, with astonishing destructiveness, but defensive measures were limited. Mutants could face these weapons head-on, their survival and defensive and regenerative capacities were astounding.
Possibly providing the same 5 Source Power Value, these Mutants are harder to kill than Supernatural Monsters from other worlds offering 10 Source Power Value.
Because they specialized in the Flesh Mutation route.
Su Ziyu's Skill Tree even had a Flesh Mutation enhancement route. With merely a consumption of ten or so Source Power, one could quickly gain decent combat power, though the cost was significant.
In just a short time, three armed helicopters were taken down.
Artillery fire and missile explosions resounded, the people inside were ruthless characters, fighting for survival without concern for others. Amid the continuous explosions, not only the monster was severely injured, but also those left in the stronghold. The sound of tank fire never ceased, but the monster's reaction speed was too swift, a cumbersome tank couldn't target it accurately.
Driving out was impossible.
Su Ziyu saw some people climbing over the wall to escape, but behind them, shadows leapt out, revealing themselves as clothing-worn Living Corpse Ghosts. They seemed to have just mutated, retaining a roughly human outline, with muscles swelling, their tattered clothes stained with blood — evidently, many were already victims.
——"Living Corpse Ghost [Hatching Unit]!"
Su Ziyu's gaze swept across, quickly noticing a somewhat familiar human silhouette, its face twisted grotesquely, but a big gold tooth was very prominent, more noticeable than other Living Corpse Ghosts.
Mountain Cannon.
When approaching, Su Ziyu noticed severe radiation pollution in him, with dark blue veins on his neck, and dark specks on his skin surface. Now he seemed to have mutated directly into a Living Corpse Ghost, becoming a hatching unit for the Super Mutant, appearing capable of instantly turning heavily polluted individuals into monsters.
"We knew each other. Let me free you," Su Ziyu adjusted his gun, aiming at the gold-toothed Living Corpse Ghost.
The Gauss Sniper Rifle's crystal tube emitted a faint red light.
Bang.
With a faint gunshot sound, the recoil was very small, an electromagnetic bullet shot out like a laser, the speed so fast it resembled a red laser beam.
In the next instant.
The Living Corpse Ghost's head vanished silently, no exploded flesh or shattered skull, the entire head disappeared as if evaporated, and then its body fell forward and collapsed. Upon closer inspection, fragments of bones were visible dozens of meters away, and on a distant wall a burn mark resembling melted traces.
Beep.
A faint alert sounded.
This indicated the Gauss Sniper Rifle was recharging, the dark red crystal tubes within the gun body lighting up one by one, fully charged in a minute and a half.
The ammo recharge was indeed slow.
But correspondingly, the Gauss Sniper Rifle's power was even greater than Su Ziyu imagined!
Was this technology really developed during the Cold War?
With tech level like this, why did this world become an apocalyptic wasteland? What upheaval occurred in the Old World back then?
