Wasteland Commander

Chapter 165: Encirclement and Interception

Four transport planes swept across the sky.

From Dawn City to the border between the two cities here, a few hundred kilometers takes less than an hour.

The radar on the plane had already locked onto the convoy below and also locked onto the parachuting location.

Mo Yue was the first to reach the cabin door and jumped out from the sky.

The four planes passed by, and parachutes bloomed in the sky like flowers.

The weather was fine today, with no strong winds, making the parachute landing very accurate.

After landing, all the paratroopers quickly set up defenses.

The location they chose was the entrance to the mountain road just inside Crane City territory.

Two rolling hills with a road sandwiched in between, an ambush set on the left and right hills, was a perfect natural ambush spot.

Due to the transport planes being faster than helicopters, Mo Yue and his team arrived half an hour earlier than Ye Fan's helicopters.

"Everyone, conceal and set up defenses. Our task is to prevent the enemy from passing in half an hour. The Crane City area is mountainous. Once the enemy enters the mountains, it will be difficult to track them. As long as we hold on until the commander arrives, everything will be fine."

In the dry grass, behind rocks, in ditches, the paratroopers in snow-white field uniforms almost merged with the snowy landscape.

The enemy had over two thousand armed forces, while they had only four hundred, approximately a six-to-one enemy ratio.

They had just concealed themselves and couldn't do much defensive setup before the opponent's convoy arrived.

"Brother Qian, we've reached Jiapigou." The pathfinder notified Qian Ming, who was sleeping inside the armored vehicle in the middle of the convoy, via walkie-talkie.

In Qian Ming's view, being within Crane City territory meant they were basically safe, and the Dawn Army couldn't pursue them here.

"Hmm, once we're past this, we'll be in the mountains. Tell everyone to hurry up. We'll rest in the mountains tonight and strive to return to base by noon tomorrow."

"Okay."

The leader at the front shouted, "Keep up at the back! What's wrong, haven't had your meal? Hurry up, get back home early, and there'll be all sorts of good food. Slow down, and beware of feeding zombies on the road."

These words weren't alarmist. Even for their fully armed large force, it was quite challenging to traverse a few hundred kilometers in the apocalypse. They dared not approach any densely populated area and often suffered losses.

The convoy sped up to quickly pass through the mountain gully.

Women were huddled in the vehicles, some in pain, some expressionless, and some crying.

Of course, some seemed indifferent, thinking that, given the numerous hardships of the apocalypse, what else could there be? It might be the same anywhere.

As the convoy entered Jiapigou, a sudden change occurred!

This convoy had seven to eight hundred vehicles, with the first few dozen being vehicles of the Crane City Divine Dragon Army.

Although these vehicles weren't tanks or armored vehicles, they were all modified off-road vehicles.

With added barbed wire and rams, generally, they had no problem rampaging in the wild.

Poor marksmen found it difficult to shoot through these vehicles.

Therefore, Mo Yue didn't let everyone open fire but waited for the vehicles to advance a bit.

When these vehicles were beneath them, Mo Yue gave the order to attack.

"Open fire~~!"

Four hundred submachine guns roared simultaneously.

Countless tongues of fire spewed from the hillside, lighting up these off-road vehicles.

The leading off-road vehicle lost control and plunged into a deep ditch.

The drivers became prime targets for the Dawn Army to shoot at, causing the leading vehicles to lose control one after another, immediately causing chaos.

The Divine Dragon Army personnel started jumping out of their vehicles, showing better composure than those from the Survivor Alliance.

While panicked, they remained orderly, quickly jumping out to find cover, and even starting to exchange fire with those on the hills.

Qian Ming, who was asleep in the back bus, sprang up in an instant.

"What's going on?"

"Brother Qian, it seems there's an ambush by the Dawn Army. We've been ambushed."

"Nonsense! We just left Huacheng two days ago. Did the Dawn Army sprout wings and fly here?"

"If you don't believe it, see for yourself."

Qian Ming grabbed the binoculars and looked at the hillside ahead, seeing soldiers in white uniforms crawling there, exchanging fire with the people below.

If it weren't for the continuous tongues of fire flashing, it would've been hard to spot the soldiers on the hills.

Clearly, the Divine Dragon Army was at a disadvantage. Despite their numbers, attacking the Dawn Army meant they had to move uphill.

Yet the Dawn Army had come prepared, lurking extremely well, and the paratroopers' marksmanship was markedly superior to that of the Divine Dragon Army.

People kept falling on the way to the hills; the Divine Dragon Army was suffering heavy losses.

Qian Ming was incredulous; how did the Dawn Army arrive?

Though it was a mystery, pondering it at this time was meaningless.

He needed to consider whether to eliminate the Dawn Army or maneuver the convoy out of the encirclement.

"Brother Qian, the Dawn Army's numbers seem not to be very large, but they are well-trained and exceptionally accurate marksmen. If this continues, our casualties will be significant."

"Brother Qian, why don't we order all of our backup troops to advance? Completely eliminate this group of Dawn Army, as only superior forces can suppress them."

Reports kept coming in from ahead.

Qian Ming's face was cold as he thought for a moment and rejected his subordinates' suggestion to press forward with the main force.

"No, since the Dawn Army could appear here as the first batch, they might appear here again as the second batch. Blockading at the mountain pass is clearly an attempt to delay our advance. We must not fall for it."

"Drive the armored vehicle over, then order the modified cars with bulletproof glass to follow behind the armored vehicle and charge through together. Once we breach, our troops can flank them from behind, and their defense won't be effective anymore."

"Understood!!"

The only armored vehicle on the Divine Dragon Army's side moved out, followed by twenty or thirty modified cars.

These vehicles were reinforced with steel plates and even bulletproof glass.

With full throttle, the convoy charged forward under the lead of the armored vehicle.

Bullets pinged off the armored vehicle and other cars, only sparking a little, totally ineffective.

"Hahaha! Once we get through, you're finished, you guys!"

The Divine Dragon Army's men laughed arrogantly, with some even giving the finger to the Dawn Army on the hillside.

*********

Mo Yue kept a close watch until the enemy vehicles got closer, then suddenly issued an order.

"Everyone, use grenades! Blow them up!"

Airborne soldiers are among the most cost-effective units. Though each costs only two hundred Gold, their weapons and equipment are nearly at scout level.

Grenades are standard gear for airborne soldiers, and everyone has them.

Since Duanmu Xiaoyu stole the Rakshasa Battalion, every airborne soldier produced was One-Star. They not only have grenades, but two of them.

Four hundred airborne soldiers acted in unison.

Four hundred grenades were tossed like hail from the mountainsides.

Clank, clank~~~~!

Those dark objects dropped down, startling the leader at the front.

But then, he let out a heart-wrenching scream: "Help...!"

Boom~~~~!

A sea of fire!

The Dawn Army's weapons are quality assured; not a single dud among the four hundred grenades, instantly engulfing all the vehicles on this stretch of road.

Hundreds of Divine Dragon Army personnel and their vehicles were swept up just like that.

With the explosion of hundreds of grenades, unless they're King Kong Zombies, there's practically no chance of survival.

Including the armored vehicle, which was completely destroyed under the blast of over twenty grenades!

This wave of attacks completely crushed the arrogance of the Divine Dragon Army.

Having lost these assault-capable vehicles, let alone eliminating the Dawn Army, safe escape from here was already in question.

Qian Ming stood at the back of the unit, his heart writhing with pain.

He pulled out his walkie-talkie and communicated with the base side.

"Personnel retrieved, ambushed by the Dawn Army at the city boundary, potentially facing total annihilation. I will attempt a final breakout. Over."

After ending the call, Qian Ming issued the order fiercely.

"Continue the breakout!"

His subordinates were stunned: "Brother Qian, our remaining vehicles aren't suitable....."

"Nonsense! The Dawn Army is here to intercept these women. Just drive the vehicles carrying those women forward. If they've got the guts, they can blow up these ladies too. Without that courage, charge forward confidently!"

"Understood!"

The Divine Dragon Army's men immediately dispersed to various vehicles transporting the Women's Army.

Each one floored the gas pedal. Qian Ming was right, the Dawn Army was here for the women. Let them try to kill these women too.

Seeing the enemy's fierce charge, Mo Yue pulled out the walkie-talkie to call Ye Fan.

"Commander-in-Chief, should we continue the attack?"

"No need, you've already acted as a blockade. Let them pass; I've arrived."

Mo Yue obeyed orders and did not continue the attack. Qian Ming and his men finally broke through this deadly valley with the Women's Army.

"Hahaha~~! It worked. They're apprehensive. In that case, prepare to face the wrath of our Divine Dragon Army!"

Their vehicles sped wildly forward, with the checkpoint not far ahead where the mountain paths began.

Beyond the checkpoint lies the dense mountains. On the mountain roads, Qian Ming felt confident about taking most of the women back.

Even if the Dawn Army has aircraft, it would be difficult to capture so many in the forest.

They reached the checkpoint.

The convoy stopped, Qian Ming stared ahead blankly, feeling like smashing into it.

He recalled passing here just two days ago.

How, in just two days, did some nasty bastard build a ten-meter-high wall here?

A ten-meter-high wall, four meters thick, directly blocked the road, with no gaps at all.
