Starting With a Reef [Global Survival]

chapter 80 - Day 27 of Survival 04

Her gaze landed on Chen Jin.“I’ll start with you.”At her command, the pangolin beside her reacted instantly—its scales flaring outward, a blaze of fire erupting across its entire body as it charged straight toward Chen Jin.The sheer momentum of the beast forced Chen Jin back several steps. Its armored body crashed into his monk staff, sending a shower of sparks flying. The embers burned several holes right through his clothes.Yun Luohe immediately joined the fight.Yúntūn shot out spider silk and wrapped the pangolin, restricting its movement. The beast thrashed wildly, but Yúntūn’s silk transformed into thick silver vines, as thick as a person’s arm, binding it tightly.Tu Xue turned to Yun Luohe, her voice calm. “Don’t be in such a hurry. You’re next. I’m not letting your [Points] go either.”Just then, the pangolin jerked violently, its burning scales slicing through the vines like hot knives. The shards burst forth like a storm of darts, raining down on the trio. The scales blazed orange like branding irons, and even a glancing touch could sear flesh from bone.Though the spider silk shield was torn apart, it reformed into a makeshift armor, blocking the barrage in front of Yun Luohe. With Yúntūn’s protection, she wasn’t worried about the pangolin alone. But something still felt wrong. If Tu Xue only had that one pet, she wouldn’t be so brazen. Was someone else hiding nearby? Did she have more?No one would try to take on three opponents with just one pet.As they were fully occupied fending off the pangolin’s assault, a faint rustle came from the nearby grass.A giant carnivorous flower quietly emerged, its thick vines trailing a sickening, rotting stench. If Yun Luohe hadn’t caught the smell first and shouted a warning, Du Ruan-tian would’ve been bitten right then and there.Seeing such a ❖ Nоvеl𝚒ght ❖ (Exclusive on Nоvеl𝚒ght) massive, hideous magenta bloom suddenly appear behind her, Du Ruan-tian let out a cry of terror. The bloodhound, sensing her panic, barked fiercely at the flower.Du Ruan-tian scooped the bloodhound into her arms and shielded it behind her, terrified that the flower would devour her pet.The man-eating flower lashed out from behind, vines whipping through the air.Dozens of vines surged forward. Chen Jin blocked them with his staff, but the strength behind them forced him to stagger back repeatedly. Yun Luohe, too, had her arm ensnared and struggled hard to break free. They were being attacked from all sides and quickly overwhelmed.Yun Luohe looked toward Tu Xue, who remained perfectly composed, not even bothering to take them seriously. So both the pangolin and the flower were her pets.A fire-type beast and a wood-type plant pet were enough to suppress the three of them—and Tu Xue hadn’t even moved yet.She was clearly formidable. No wonder she had the gall to pick fights freely, even against teams of three. But Yun Luohe wasn’t the type to be intimidated. Did Tu Xue really think she could take them all down with just two pets?Yun Luohe activated her [Scanning Eye].It quickly revealed a strange structural feature in both the pangolin and the flower. There was a glowing object embedded inside their bodies—it looked familiar.Yun Luohe frowned.A Symbiotic Crystal. Both creatures had a Symbiotic Crystal within them, and the energy from those crystals was being distributed throughout their bodies—like some kind of power core. While fending off the pets, Yun Luohe spoke to Tu Xue with a smile. “You really think these two things can kill us? All we have to do is destroy the Symbiotic Crystals inside them.”Tu Xue’s expression shifted. Her smile faded as she stared at Yun Luohe, clearly surprised she had discovered the secret behind her puppets. But Tu Xue wasn’t stupid. If Yun Luohe truly had a way to destroy the Symbiotic Crystals, she would’ve acted instead of talking.“Oh? Then go ahead and try.”With that, she ordered the pangolin and the man-eating flower to attack even more aggressively.Yun Luohe tried using the [Scanning Eye] to pinpoint weaknesses in the two creatures, but their bodies had no obvious vulnerabilities. And the Symbiotic Crystals weren’t just power sources—they were the control cores Tu Xue used to manipulate them.A subtle energy signal ran from Tu Xue to both of the pets.If they wanted to get rid of Tu Xue, they had to destroy those crystals. It was a pity—Yun Luohe hadn’t asked Si Qi to research the crystals’ weaknesses. They’d only used them for experimentation, not to understand their full potential. So the Symbiotic Crystals had this kind of function too. She’d have to tell Si Qi later and start a new round of testing. But now wasn’t the time for that.Yun Luohe began launching attacks directly at the Symbiotic Crystals and told Chen Jin to focus on Tu Xue. If the creatures followed her commands, then the moment she was distracted, they’d become mindless husks—easier to handle.Du Ruan-tian wasn’t standing by either. Her bloodhound suddenly entered battle mode—its body growing a full size larger. What had once been a knee-high pup had transformed——though it feared fire, it charged the man-eating flower. It bit down on the flower’s vine and wouldn’t let go, greatly easing Yun Luohe’s burden. Not to be outdone, Yúntūn joined the bloodhound in attacking the flower—but while the bloodhound only bit, Yúntūn devoured. It latched on, then began to slowly eat the flower’s vines and leaves piece by piece. The bloodhound would bite and spit—it didn’t like the taste. But Yúntūn didn’t care. The once-lush flower was quickly chewed down to a bald, pathetic stalk. It quivered visibly—afraid.Tu Xue could sense its condition. She turned and, seeing what was left of her flower, immediately tried to call it back. But it was far too late for that.Yúntūn’s silk wrapped around the flower’s stem—its throat—while the bloodhound bit into its root. It even tugged a vine free and offered it to Yúntūn like a snack.Yúntūn didn’t hesitate. It swallowed the vine whole and then set its sights on the flower petals.Tu Xue was struggling to keep up—fighting off Chen Jin’s relentless attacks while trying to monitor her pets. She was clearly being pushed to her limit. Her once-relaxed expression had long since vanished. Her face darkened, and she glared at Chen Jin coldly. With a flick of her hand, she cracked her long whip and coiled it around Chen Jin’s monk staff, then darted toward the flower and grabbed hold of one of its vines.Streams of luminous threads surged from her hand.As Tu Xue moved, it was as if new life surged into the man-eating flower—its thick vines instantly swelled to several times their original size. They whipped through the air like monstrous pythons. Thick, corrosive mucus oozed from them, dripping onto the ground with a sizzle, eating through the earth and leaving behind pitted holes. At the same time, the flower opened its massive maw and lunged toward Yun Luohe and her pet.But Chen Jin seized the moment. Gripping his monk staff with both hands, he raised it high and brought it down hard toward Tu Xue.The staff was about to crash into Tu Xue’s back. Even though she reacted in time, it was obvious she couldn’t avoid it.Everyone thought she was about to be injured, at the very least——but at that moment, a massive tentacle burst from the nearby water, intercepting the strike. It took the full force of the blow and was severed cleanly, flopping to the ground still twitching. With a heavy splash, an octopus finally revealed itself from behind the waterfall. Its enormous limbs surged forward with torrential force, roaring down from above like water dragons.“Good. I didn’t expect you three to force me to use all three of my puppets. Which means—every one of you must die.”Tu Xue took a step back, her expression a little pale. If that last hit had landed, she might not have walked away from it.The newly emerged octopus had seven tentacles remaining. One of them slammed into the ground, carving out a barrier between her and the others.Soon, the pangolin and the man-eating flower responded to her summon and joined her at the front, standing in a line with the octopus. So these were Tu Xue’s final trump cards.Three puppets, each with a fully embedded Symbiotic Crystal: fire-type, wood-type, and water-type.No wonder she was so arrogant.Yun Luohe’s expression darkened. She stood shoulder to shoulder with Chen Jin. They exchanged a glance—this was it. Time to give everything they had.The two of them shielded Du Ruan-tian behind them, warning her to be careful and run if things took a turn for the worse.Du Ruan-tian bit her lip, frustrated that she couldn’t help, wracking her brain for anything she could do.The bloodhound stood at her feet, hackles raised, letting out a low, menacing growl. The three puppets launched a simultaneous assault. Yun Luohe and Chen Jin coordinated flawlessly and managed to hold them off for now.But time passed, and night had completely fallen. Not being able to see clearly was a serious disadvantage for Yun Luohe and Chen Jin.Du Ruan-tian hurriedly pulled out all the [fluorite] in her bag and lit a [tree resin torch], planting it into the ground.Even so, their [Stamina] was nearly depleted from the prolonged battle, while Tu Xue’s puppets didn’t need to worry about [Stamina] at all.“I’m curious to see how long you can last…”Tu Xue remained unhurried. As long as she killed them before the match ended, she had time. These three clearly had good loot—she wouldn’t need to hunt anyone else. One more hour, and their [Stamina] should be gone.Tu Xue smirked.Sure, this fight was a little tougher than expected—but in the end, she was still winning. This match alone, she had eliminated several strong players, picking through all their supplies. Once she returned, her strength would skyrocket again. If she sold off the materials, she might even reach level 7 soon. She had to figure out how to make another puppet. Once she collected gold, wood, water, fire, and earth types—She’d be unstoppable. The more she thought about it, the more pleased she became.——Yun Luohe’s [Stamina] was nearly gone. She couldn’t hold out like this.Chen Jin wouldn’t last much longer either. Their [Stamina] bars were nearly the same. And the three puppets kept up their relentless assault. Were the three of them really going to die here? Her mind raced as she searched for any possible way out.Just as inspiration struck Yun Luohe, Du Ruan-tian had an idea of her own.She pulled out some [crude oil] from her backpack.Yun Luohe dashed to Chen Jin’s side. “The three puppets counter each other: fire beats wood, water beats fire… We’ll redirect their attacks toward each other. Stop splitting them up.”Until now, they’d each held one puppet at bay to reduce pressure.Du Ruan-tian’s idea of using oil to target the flower was also sound. The man-eating flower was definitely afraid of fire. She dumped the [crude oil] over the flower and immediately tossed a lit torch. In an instant, flames engulfed the flower, its stem and vines twisting and curling as they burned. The octopus was afraid of fire, too—but it could counter with water. So even though the oil was aimed at the flower, they could still provoke the octopus to act. They waved torches, provoking the octopus, which roared in anger and sprayed torrents of water.Taking advantage of its slowed movements from the fire, Yun Luohe had Yúntūn ensnare one of the octopus’s tentacles with silk and drag it into the burning flower. The elemental chain reaction triggered instantly—Water doused fire, wood absorbed water, fire scorched wood.Yun Luohe and Chen Jin exchanged a glance and attacked together.Chen Jin smashed down with his monk staff, aiming for the octopus’s limb.Yun Luohe struck the perfect moment, driving her hunting knife into the octopus’s eye.Du Ruan-tian didn’t stay idle either—she commanded her bloodhound to keep harassing the pangolin, preventing it from going all out in its attacks.
