"Came to the wrong place?"
"No way, right?"
Hearing Su Xuan's words, Ji Sisi immediately sat up from the ground, her gaze subconsciously falling on the grass she had just flattened.
Could it be that this mountaintop isn't an abandoned place, but... a place for cultivating Spirit Grass? Could the grass I just trampled be Spirit Grass?
But she couldn't see any signs. The grass looked no different from ordinary weeds and had no peculiar features.
"Cousin, what's going on?" Ji Sisi couldn't help but ask.
"Look," Su Xuan whispered, pointing to the ground beside him.
"Uh..."
Ji Sisi was stunned. Where Su Xuan was pointing, there was a shoe. Looking farther out, she saw another one. The two shoes didn't even match.
And farther still, she saw pieces of clothing—both men's and women's—scattered on the ground, leading all the way behind a rock more than a meter high.
"Oh!" Ji Sisi's mouth gaped open. She finally understood. Someone had already beaten them to it and claimed this mountaintop.
"Let's find another place."
Su Xuan had no desire to eavesdrop on an intimate moment, so he turned to leave.
"Wait a second." Ji Sisi held onto Su Xuan, glancing at a piece of clothing on the ground. "That looks familiar. I think it might belong to the girl I live with."
"So what?" Su Xuan shrugged. "We can't exactly go behind the rock to check, can we?"
"But I really like this place." Ji Sisi looked up at the night sky again. The bright moonlight cascaded down, seeping through the Yu Xian Sect's protective mountain formation. As the light passed through, it refracted into a rainbow of colors, creating a beautiful and enchanting sight.
Looking around, it was hard to find a better spot than this. The higher peaks were strategic locations for the Yu Xian Sect and would undoubtedly be guarded by disciples.
"Forget it." Su Xuan pulled firmly on Ji Sisi's small hand, dragging her away.
He had assumed someone else's trial spot; if he got into a conflict now and attracted the attention of the Yu Xian Sect, it would be major trouble.
"Sigh, Cousin, you've really changed!" Ji Sisi lamented.
My old cousin spoiled me rotten, willing to steal the moon from the sky for me. But this one... he seems so indifferent! The old him would have found a way to drive that couple away so we could have this place to ourselves!
WHOOSH!
Unable to stop Su Xuan from pulling her away, a frustrated Ji Sisi threw a small stone toward the rock.
"How bold!"
Before the stone could even reach the rock, a man in a gray robe appeared from thin air and caught it. The old man had a full, white beard and an ethereal air, but his eyes radiated a thick killing intent. Showing no mercy, he flicked his wrist and sent the stone hurtling back toward Ji Sisi.
WHIZ!
The stone whistled through the air like a bullet.
"Heaven Severing Late Stage Perfection!"
Ji Sisi's face went pale with fright. She had no way to dodge. She was only at the Heaven Severing Early Stage Cultivation; dodging was impossible. She was certain she was about to die.
She didn't think her cousin could help. He was a good-for-nothing when it came to cultivation. Though he was also at the Heaven Severing stage, his realm was artificially inflated by recklessly consuming elixirs. It was as fragile as a house of cards, with no real combat strength.
But then, the unexpected happened.
SMACK!
A hand suddenly reached out and caught the returning stone.
"Sir, that's going too far!" Clutching the stone, Su Xuan narrowed his eyes at the old man. "We were about to leave. Why the need to kill?"
"Hmm?" The old man hadn't expected Su Xuan to catch his stone so effortlessly. A cautious look entered his eyes as he said in a deep voice, "My young master is enjoying the moon with his beloved. We cannot tolerate being disturbed. Did you expect me to stand by while this little wench tried to bother him?"
"Cousin, is your hand okay?" Ji Sisi had no interest in listening to the old man and hurried over to check on Su Xuan's hand.
"It's fine." Su Xuan moved his hand behind his back, straightened his spine, and adopted an arrogant stance. "Cousin, I won't hide it from you any longer. For the past few years, I've been hiding my true strength and training in secret. You can't even imagine how formidable my cultivation has become!"
"Cousin..." Tears welled up in Ji Sisi's beautiful eyes. The more Su Xuan spoke, the more she believed his hand was ruined and he was just putting on a brave face.
"Cousin, let's not argue with him," she said, taking the initiative to pull Su Xuan's hand down the mountain. "We need to get your hand treated, quickly."
She knew they couldn't beat their opponent. Staying any longer would likely lead to a greater loss. In this world, strength is everything.
"Okay!" Su Xuan had no intention of getting entangled with them and gladly agreed.
But someone else didn't want to let them go.
"Uncle Wu!" a voice suddenly called from behind the rock. "I told you to stand guard, yet you let them ruin my mood. We can't let them walk away unpunished. Make them kneel and apologize!"
"Understood!"
The old man's figure flickered, blocking Su Xuan and Ji Sisi's path. Pointing at the rock, he commanded sternly, "Kneel!"
The person behind the rock, for some reason, did not show himself. But demanding someone apologize to a rock carried an even greater insult.
Seeing them stand motionless, the old man repeated harshly, "Did you hear me? Kneel and apologize!"
"Sisi, announce my name to this elderly gentleman," Su Xuan said to Ji Sisi, knowing they couldn't easily leave.
I hope this identity I've assumed is enough to intimidate them.
"Yes!" Ji Sisi caught on immediately and said to the old man, "My cousin is Ji Ning, the eldest son of the Ji Family from Da Ying Mountain! If you dare to trouble us, you will face the full retaliation of the Ji Family!"
As she spoke, she straightened her back, projecting an air of defiance to show that the Ji Family was not to be trifled with.
"So it's just the little Ji Family. I thought you were from some major power," the old man sneered. "If you don't kneel and apologize tonight, I will personally visit Da Ying Mountain and make the Head of the Ji Family apologize to my young master!"
"Oh?" Su Xuan said, his mouth slightly agape. "And what great power might you hail from?"
"You aren't qualified to ask about our origins!" the old man scoffed. "Just kneel!"
"I refuse!" Su Xuan suddenly shot his palm out toward the old man. "Grovel!"
"Ignorant!" A trace of disdain flickered across the old man's brow as he swung his own palm toward Su Xuan.
CLAP!
Su Xuan stood his ground, unmoving, but the old man was sent flying backward. He slammed into the large rock with a heavy thud.
PFFT!
The old man spat out a mouthful of blood. His body slid down the rock, and he collapsed weakly to the ground, ending up in a kneeling position as if bowing to Su Xuan. His eyes were filled with fear and confusion. How had Su Xuan defeated him in a single move?
Then, instead of leaving, Su Xuan leaped and darted behind the rock.
And then, something strange happened...
