Rotting Land: Survive

Chapter 167: Bloody Battle in the Corridor

The sudden anomaly left Dazhuang a bit dumbfounded!

Undoubtedly, this was his first time facing such a sudden situation. Even when his wife and son were killed earlier, he wasn't as helpless as today.

With his back pressed firmly against the door panel, Hu Xiaodong dared not slack off even slightly, for his many experiences told him that if he left now, the consequences would be unimaginable. The development of the situation also proved that Hu Xiaodong's response was exceptionally correct.

Ten seconds, or even shorter, as Hu Xiaodong didn't even have time to utter a warning before his chest was driven down by a tremendous force.

"Damn it!" The impact came even quicker than he anticipated, and in his shock, Hu Xiaodong hurriedly shouted, "Quick! Dazhuang, stop standing there foolishly and chop off this beast's arm for me! Quick!"

His words were like a sharp sword piercing through Dazhuang's ears, snapping him awake like a dreamer. Instinctively stunned, a moment later, two flames shot out from his eyes.

"Crack, crack" The blade sliced through the muscle, making a horrid crunching sound, as Dazhuang, like a butcher, expressionlessly carved at the arm in front of him.

But his actions were still slow because as soon as he removed an arm, several rotting, shriveled corpse hands eagerly reached in.

"Bang! Bang!" The intensifying smashes were like a giant hammer continuously pounding on Hu Xiaodong's back, causing him to be repeatedly jolted away.

No doubt, the situation had reached a critical point; Hu Xiaodong knew it was only a matter of time before the zombies broke through the door. So...

He painstakingly drew a short blade from his waist, a weapon he had never used since the apocalypse erupted.

But now...

"Take this, Dazhuang! Stab it through the door cracks, killing each one counts!"

The flames of revenge burned fiercely in his heart, and Dazhuang's eyes swept over the cold blade, finding now that there was nowhere for his anger to be vented. Hu Xiaodong's words undoubtedly added fuel to the fire raging in his heart.

With a gaze like lightning, Dazhuang seized the opportunity without pause, precisely stabbing at a zombie clawing outside.

The knife pierced through, splattering blood without the slightest delay. After finishing one zombie, he sought another target and repeated the method.

"Slash, slash, slash," After three stabs, the three nearest unlucky ones all drooped their heads powerlessly, leaving only half arms wedged lifelessly in the door cracks.

But short blades are ultimately short blades, limited by range. After clearing out the near-end zombies, Dazhuang could no longer reach the ones behind them.

The burden on Hu Xiaodong grew heavier. The force exerted by these creatures, driven by hunger, was beyond ordinary human imagination. If not for Hu Xiaodong's sturdy build, the security door might have already...

But even so, Hu Xiaodong was now merely at the end of his rope, gritting his teeth to hold on!

After all, he wasn't a god, didn't have three heads and six arms, nor world-crushing divine power.

So, breaking down the door was only a matter of time!

What to do? That indeed was the question!

Retreating seemed like a good option, so without any hesitation, Hu Xiaodong shouted hoarsely at Dazhuang, "Dazhuang! When I count to three, we run to the rooftop together!"

Before Dazhuang could respond, Hu Xiaodong, whose back ached sharply, immediately started counting aloud, "One! Two! Three!"

As soon as he finished speaking, Hu Xiaodong's body lunged forward, retreating steps swift as an arrow released from a bowstring.

"Boom! Papap!" A series of crashing sounds came from behind, no surprise to Hu Xiaodong, he knew it must be the crowded zombies crashing against the door due to inertia.

It's said people run fastest during crises, and that was indeed true. At least at this moment, Hu Xiaodong's feet seemed oiled and swift.

However, after taking just a few steps, he inexplicably stopped because he suddenly realized that the man who should have followed closely didn't seem to be catching up.

Could it be... A bad thought surfaced in Hu Xiaodong's mind. In his alarm, he faced a dilemma:

Return for rescue or continue fleeing? It seemed easy to choose, but in some sense, it was extremely difficult.

Going back might mean getting surrounded by a sea of zombies!

But not going back...

The burden on his conscience made Hu Xiaodong hesitate only briefly. He quickly adjusted his emotions and then resolutely drew the cleaver from his back, decisively vanishing into the boundless darkness.

Upon returning to the security door, the purgatory-like scene before him made Hu Xiaodong inhale sharply.

Zombies were piled on the ground, all beheaded, and through the sunlight streaming through the door, Hu Xiaodong could clearly see the thick liquid flowing from the cut surfaces.

Where was Dazhuang? Where was Dazhuang?

Raising his eyebrows, searching around, after a sweep, the anxious Hu Xiaodong finally spotted a faint silhouette in the corridor's center!

Damn it! Does he not care about his life anymore?

Although concealed by zombies, Hu Xiaodong still recognized the man's presence, relying on the reflection of knife edges whirling and flashing.

After the door opened, Dazhuang seemed to have gone mad, charging in recklessly. Rather than slaughtering zombies, it was more like heading fearlessly to his death.

For advancing into enemy territory alone, he completely ignored the zombies emerging from corridor rooms, just focusing on going forward! Forward! Charging! Charging!

The consequence of this was… he was surrounded!

There was definitely an impulse to kick Dazhuang's backside hard right now, without a doubt, his actions placed the team's interests in jeopardy.

Yet, despite the anger, Hu Xiaodong suppressed the fury in his heart because he was the Captain of this team, he had the responsibility and duty to lead all members back alive.

Tightening his grip on the cleaver in his hand, Hu Xiaodong's face steeled as he took a few steps into the corridor, grabbing a zombie in front with a powerful tug, pulling the emaciated zombie close, and quickly dealt a blow with the knife to end its life cleanly.

The battle raged on for over five minutes, with walls around stained with blood and bodies stacked in piles on the floor.

Hu Xiaodong's arms ached as if they were going to crack, unsure of how many times he actually swung the blade, but regardless, he finally reunited with Dazhuang.

Once more shutting the door before them, inside zombies banged unwillingly at the panels, but Hu Xiaodong didn't spare them a glance, hurriedly pulling a battle-worn, blood-drenched Demon God-like Dazhuang into the nearby pharmacy…
