Rotting Land: Survive

Chapter 300: Suspicious Action (Part 1)

Early the next morning, the survivors who had rested overnight gathered early in one place.

Since today was their action day, the base unusually allocated extra breakfast supplies for each person going out: white flour buns.

Though the number was a bit meager, for the survivors who had been surviving on sparse fruit for two weeks, this was a special "gift".

"Damn! I almost forgot what this stuff tasted like!" Wang Qiang exclaimed while eating.

His heartfelt words undoubtedly echoed the thoughts of the other survivors.

Especially He Jing's daughter, Fangfang, whose pitiful eyes fixed straight on the mouths of those partaking, making everyone reluctant to continue their eating.

But considering the necessity of the mission, they had to force themselves to continue, as this task was fraught with danger. Missing this rare chance to fill their bellies due to "moral etiquette" would cost them more than just a white flour bun.

Once they finished eating, the survivors stepped out of the tent after a short rest.

It must be said that September's weather was particularly delightful, with a gentle breeze bringing an indescribable comfort and joy.

As the group leisurely walked ahead, enjoying the breeze, Wang Qiang suddenly froze, and an irritated voice immediately escaped his throat, "Damn, what bad luck to run into these bastards this early!"

The remaining survivors also frowned, as in their field of vision, a man with a scarred face wearing flip-flops was chatting and laughing with a tall, broad-shouldered man.

This made Tang Xiaoquan's heart harbor some doubts: "How come it's them! Could it be they're planning today as well..."

Thinking of a certain possibility, Tang Xiaoquan's face grew even more serious with suspicion.

Undoubtedly, for the survivors, the very last people they wanted to encounter at the base were Scar and Sang Biao.

To avoid traveling with them, the survivors had deliberately set the action date for today.

But things didn't go as planned. The original estimate missed the mark, and the two groups they least wanted to meet ended up encountering each other.

Perhaps aware of the heated gazes from the other side, Scar instinctively glanced at the direction of the survivors amidst his lively chat, and suddenly a dense atmosphere of tension filled the air.

As the saying goes, "Enemies meet, eyes blaze with hatred." The animosity between Scar's group and the survivors was no secret, as both groups glared at each other with murderous eyes.

Old Zhao, worried about trouble, quickly whispered for everyone to stay calm.

On the other side, Scar seemed especially cautious today, not behaving as arrogantly as usual and similarly restraining his subordinates.

Thus, this near-explosive conflict, with both parties' intentional "restraint," entered a relatively "strange" harmonious atmosphere.

"Let's go!" Since there was no fight, there was no need to waste time with these scoundrels.

Old Zhao waved to his group, and they all headed toward the parked cars.

The parking area was also crowded, and upon closer inspection, besides the men under Scar's Civilian Corps, there was another five-person team.

These five were all between 30 and 40 years old, considered a team in their prime.

And they were in good spirits, at least better than most of the base's residents.

"Looks like Commander Xu's recruitment got quite a response from the people!" A random comment, laced with humor from Wen Quanxin, quietly alleviated the tension on their side caused by the confrontation with Scar.

The urban management vehicle was still quietly parked in its spot from yesterday, although the body had been cleaned up.

Of course, "clean" here is relative; after all, at the base, water resources are as precious as gold, and the base had no reason or possibility to waste such an important resource on cleaning vehicles, which is a pointless chore.

Yet, lacking water, Luo Yi still ordered someone to clean off the debris and rotting meat from the vehicle's body.

Besides, he also assigned someone to thoroughly check and maintain the vehicle's performance status.

It's not an exaggeration to say that the urban management vehicle now had vastly improved quality compared to the one the Survivor Team originally used to break through.

With personnel ready and vehicles assigned, while everyone was idly chatting, Luo Yi's familiar silhouette finally appeared at the player's tunnel entrance, accompanied by Xu Renjie and a group of soldiers.

It was clear that the base placed great importance on this search mission; upon reaching the gathering point, Xu Renjie immediately instructed the soldiers to distribute weapons and equipment to the three teams.

Since these were prepared in advance, the distribution wasn't difficult.

But through this distribution, Old Zhao and the others noticed that Scar's group had arranged a grand "army" of 15 people for this mission.

"Alright! Everyone, please be quiet!" A low voice came from Xu Renjie. Years of rallying experience had given him a great voice.

Although the tone just now wasn't very loud, it sounded quite "heavy" in everyone's ears.

"First, thank you all for signing up for this mission!"

"Secondly, I'd like to make three requests regarding the mission itself: one, be fearless, but not reckless; two, stay calm, and don't be nervous; three, collaborate, and don't pursue individual heroism."

"Finally, and importantly, everyone must come back alive! I'll be waiting for the triumphant news at the base!"

Straight to the point, Xu Renjie's speech undoubtedly showcased the decisiveness unique to our soldiers.

And as his speech concluded, the three teams began boarding their vehicles one after another, and the entire base quickly became lively.

Even those "lazy" individuals accustomed to staying in tents stepped outside.

Each appeared excited because they knew the success of the mission would directly affect their future survival plans.

So, regardless of their feelings, they all hoped the three teams would return safely.

The vehicles gradually started, and Tang Xiaoquan, sitting in the passenger seat, raised a hand to stop Old Zhao from releasing the brakes. He glanced at the three cars beside him, then said meaningfully, "Uncle Zhao, let's not rush to leave. Let them go first, and once they've lined up to exit, we'll move!"

Confused, Zhao Yunhai locked eyes with Tang Xiaoquan. Though he didn't understand the young man's reasoning, he still gave a definitive answer: "Alright! We'll do as you say!"
