Gourmet: Midnight Vending

Chapter 153: The Art of Delay—A Complete Sweep

Chen Mo swore that the only reason he wanted to buy some fresh lamb was that he missed the lamb soup noodles he had in Luoyang back in the day, and he wanted to try making them himself.

So why were there suddenly so many guests?

Chen Mo darkened his face, "Coming right up."

He didn't really want to talk to Liu Yang right now, because he only had one bowl and hadn't had enough before Yu Hui and the others scooped it away.

Liu Yang chuckled, "Just you wait, my little bro here is amazing at cooking. Previously, he cooked up several hundred fish by himself at the highway entrance, and they sold out completely."

"Wow!" Wang Zhifeng couldn't help but be surprised, "So the guy mentioned in the system news is this little boss?"

He turned to look at the busy Chen Mo, "If that's the case, then Boss Xiao Chen really has some skills."

There was no other way; Chen Mo's food truck had lettering on the front, and almost everyone only needed a glance to know what the little boss's name was.

Two bowls of lamb soup noodles were quickly cooked. After taking just a bite, Wang Zhifeng was immediately full of praise, his expression exaggerated, even gesticulating wildly, "Yes, really yes! I've lived in Yu Province for so many years, and I've never had lamb soup noodles this good. The key is that these noodles are different, feels like the flour here isn't quite the same."

Wang Zhifeng didn't let eating get in the way of talking. After speaking, he took another big bite and then sipped some soup. The deliciousness was all over his body, a warm feeling rising up, seemingly sweeping away the fatigue from last night's all-night investigation, extremely comforting.

Liu Yang was different.

He didn't speak at all, simply buried his head in eating, devouring noodles and slurping lamb soup so noisily, that he was like a one-man comedy show on a stage.

Sitting between the two, Shao Hailong felt that he was already quite uncouth, but these two ate even more unruly than he did?

Likely just some country bumpkins from nearby, driving a beat-up old Santana, probably heading to Jin Family Manor for the market.

But speaking of which, Shao Hailong finished drinking the last of the soup from the bottom of the bowl.

The noodles were really quite tasty!

Glancing at the time, it was still early from the agreed time with his gang members, so Shao Hailong turned towards the food truck, "Boss, another bowl."

Chen Mo ladled some lamb soup into a pot, compared to before the soup looked much lighter now, which was due to adding too much water after making too many noodles at once.

"The lamb soup isn't thick, you'll have to wait a bit."

Shao Hailong didn't care; he was just waiting for someone here anyway.

Just right, yesterday the guys had instant noodles and beer at the hotel after arriving in Kaifeng, so hard to come by such delicious noodles, Shao Hailong planned to share with his accomplices.

As the team leader, Shao Hailong was always cautious.

Every place they arrived at, he would have his gang members act separately, regrouping only when action was needed.

He called his most trusted Yang Zhou.

"Second brother, there's some good breakfast noodles at Dakang Stronghold, come quickly and get a bite." Shao Hailong glanced at the two diners next to him, seeing them still buried in eating noisily, he felt amused and relaxed a bit, speaking in Jin Province dialect, "Eat full and storm the kiln."

Despite being more relaxed, Shao Hailong still spoke in industry slang.

Storm the kiln, refers to sneaking into homes during the day to steal when people are not prepared.

Wang Zhifeng was still focused on slurping noodles.

Liu Yang's actions suddenly paused for a moment, then he gulped down the soup with two quick sips, turned his head, and shouted, "Boss Xiao Chen, get me another bowl too!"

Wang Zhifeng hadn't finished his soup yet, but that didn't stop him from speaking, "And me, I'll have another bowl too!"

Shao Hailong frowned but said nothing. His call hadn't ended yet, and on the other end, his partner Yang Zhou's voice came through, "How's the reconnaissance? Is the place rich enough?"

Yang Zhou was asking about the situation, whether the people here had money.

Shao Hailong lowered his voice slightly, "I've already nailed it, hurry up."

After speaking, Shao Hailong directly hung up the phone, looked at the people on both sides again, just to see them eagerly staring at the food truck, seemed like they were really craving it.

Shao Hailong didn't intend to change seats or anything.

In their line of work, you can't write cautiousness all over your face; true caution is inscribed in your bones, not something you deliberately show. Changing seats without any reason at this time would actually make him seem abnormal.

What he just told Yang Zhou about "nailing it," in their line means he already succeeded.

Hearing this, Yang Zhou would know right away that today's Dakang Stronghold is a lucrative opportunity.

Next to him, Liu Yang looked towards the food truck, his surface calm, but inwardly he was extremely excited.

It's normal that Wang Zhifeng didn't understand since the guy in the duck-bill cap spoke in dialect, but Liu Yang could understand it!

He was from Jin Province!

Not only could he understand it, but he also grasped the lingo.

This is freaking mandatory in police training!

'He's saying they're going to break into homes in Dakang Stronghold today, just called his accomplice over to have a meal first before they start, and said he's already made it?'

'Darn it, if I hadn't had this bowl of noodles today, I would've been tricked into going to Jin Family Manor with Wang Zhifeng. Who would've thought these thieves would go against the norm and head to Dakang Stronghold when there's no market?'

Liu Yang quickly calculated in his mind, what should be done now?

As the saying goes, catching adulterers requires evidence, catching thieves requires the goods.

Without sufficient evidence, apprehending this guy would likely do more harm than good and might alert them prematurely.

So...

Liu Yang got up and walked to the food truck, "Boss Xiao Chen, what else do you have besides the noodles? This half bowl of soup with half a bowl of noodles, it's not filling, I'll be hungry again in no time."

"Nothing else, just the lamb soup noodles."

"That won't do; you have to make me something else today, or I'll just stay here and not leave."

"Hey, you!" Chen Mo raised his eyebrows in irritation.

It's mainly because Liu Yang's attitude today surprised him too much; yesterday he was the considerate young officer at the highway entrance, and today in the blink of an eye he became a troublesome undercover, who can handle that?

However, considering Lori Yang had brought reporters to give his company a boost and successfully arranged a leave of absence without pay.

Chen Mo thought it wasn't impossible to make something else, though spicy soup was out of the question, as making it now would mean it wouldn't be ready until noon.

"It can be done, but I don't have much for ingredients, so what do you feel like eating?"

"Anything!" Liu Yang chuckled, seemed like it could work, "Just been on the train all night, very hungry, is there any..."

Liu Yang thought for a while, "Is there any dish that smells so good it stops you in your tracks?"

Smells so good you can't move away?

Chen Mo thought for a moment.

Indeed, there was!
