I'm Trying To Go Broke, So Why Do I Keep Getting Richer?!

Chapter 54: A Skeleton's Dream

Leo was teleported to earth, precisely on the spot that he had selected.

As for the destination that he selected, it was the nation where Alpha Labs were also established. However, he didn't send any messages to those in the Alpha Labs about his arrival.

What if they started working hard after realising that he had arrived? Wouldn't it be a disaster when they were fulfilling their jobs so well?

He selected a villa merely an hour's drive away from the lab. However, he didn't intend to visit the lab unless something was really wrong.

"The villa isn't bad." Leo came down the stairs, appreciating the craftsmanship of the villa.

The style looked to be inspired from mediaeval europe, yet it didn't look old. It looked exhausting instead.

On his way down, he saw a couch, and a couple was sitting on it, their backs facing him and the stairs.

"When will the person be arriving? We aren't early, are we?" A woman on the couch asked.

"Why would someone pull such an expensive prank. They have already transferred the rent of three months in advance. We just need to hand over the keys and sign a contract. Let's wait a little longer."

The man looked at the time, wondering how long he would have to wait. Suddenly, he heard the sound of footsteps coming from behind them.

"T-Tessa? We were alone in this house, weren't we?" His face lost all color.

He had barely finished speaking when a hand rested on his shoulder. Another hand rested on the woman's shoulder.

The scary part, both their hands were on their knees. Then who was touching them?

The slight touch frightened them so much that the man stood up and screamed like a girl, running straight for the door.

"Aaaa! Mr. Ghost, don't eat me! I'm only bones, no meat! Eat my wife!" He quickly pulled the door, only to later realize that he was supposed to push the door.

The woman was frozen in her seat, in fear. She didn't even dare look back.

She had checked all the rooms herself. This place was truly empty, and it hadn't been opened in years. She didn't see anyone walk in through the door either.

Didn't that mean it was truly a ghost? And her husband had also run away. While she was frozen in fear, she heard a whisper in her ears.

"Is that man really your husband?" Leo climbed over the couch and sat next to the woman. "That's pretty embarrassing."

He picked the pen on the table and asked, "Where do I need to sign?"

"Y-you aren't a ghost?" The woman asked, looking at Leo.

"Do I look like a ghost?" Leo started signing the rent agreement. "I'm Leo Vanderlen, the person who contacted you a few days ago."

"Ah, right! Wait, how did you come inside when the door was locked?" The woman asked, staring at him in a daze.

Leo was sitting so close to her that she could even feel his scent. And compared to her husband, he looked so young and charming.

"Shouldn't you chase after your husband? He might take the car and leave you stranded here."

Leo handed the signed document to the woman, keeping the copy for himself.

"R-right!"

The woman came to a realization and quickly stood up. Holding the contract firmly in her hand, she chased after her husband who was already fumbling while trying to start the car.

"You cowardly bastard, stop right there!' She ran out of the villa, and the doors of the villa closed.

Half an hour later, the man was driving the car. His face was all red and blue from being beaten too hard.

Meanwhile, the woman was sitting in the next seat, having her cheeks still puffed up as she looked at the contract.

'Why do I feel like I had seen that person before? Oh wait, I also forgot to tell him that the villa next to him was sold as well. Only two villas in that neighborhood are occupied, and both happen to be next to each other.'

'Well, I guess he will find out. As neighbours, they are bound to run into each other after all.'

She kept Leo's contract in the file, right above another contract which was signed with trembling lines.

'Though it is strange. Why can't I seem to remember the face of the first buyer? Did he really have such a forgettable face? Then again, the second buyer was truly handsome.'

....

Meanwhile, in the villa next to him, a skeleton was lying on the couch, looking at the holographic movie playing before him.

" You did it! I'm so proud of you!" The skeleton cheered loudly at the climax of the movie. "I knew you could become the most successful man! Yes, make that woman, who broke her engagement with you, regret for all her life!"

The young skeleton was literally dancing all around the couch as the scene showed a human leaving, surrounded by hundreds of bodyguards, while his ex fiance was standing in the crowd, watching with regret

"Reven!" He suddenly yelled as the end credits started rolling. "That man has pleased me! I want to reward him!"

"Your Highness, that man isn't real. It's just a movie. I mean it's a fictional story," came a response from nearby.

"What? You mean it was all a lie? He didn't make anyone regret it?" The skeleton fell on his knees as if his entire world had fallen apart. "How can that be? Prepare the cannons! I want to blow away this scheming planet which played with my feelings!"

"Cough. Your Highness, if we did that, we would give away our location to Necropolis. That would be the end of your freedom."

"R-right!" The skeleton immediately went serious. "In that case, I can't destroy this planet."

He placed a bone on his chin and started pacing back and forth. "Right! So what if that story isn't real? Doesn't that mean I can make that come true? I will be that man! I will become wealthy from being poor and make everyone regret looking down on me!"

"Reven!" He stared at the person next to him and commanded, "Find me a human who would become my fiance and break the engagement with me because I'm poor!"

Reven wanted to cry. 'Who would look down on you? Don't you know your own identity? Who has a death wish to look down on you?!'

The skeleton didn't stop there. "Oh right, shouldn't the poor man have friends who look down on him and mock him for his poverty? Find a wealthy male friend for me!"

'Find a wealthy male friend who will look down on you? Now where am I supposed to find them?' Reven thought, scratching his head.
