What? Why am I Suddenly an Undead Hottie?

Chapter 90: Anime

When I woke my whole body was aching and I felt tired beyond belief. "f*** me, what even happened?" I groaned as I slowly pulled myself up into a sitting position to take a look at my body.

"Thank god." I breathed a sigh of relief as I found the familiar breasts and silver hair of my Night Mistress form. I looked around the room, and found Rivi sleeping in a chair with her head on the edge of my bed.

"Hey," I murmured softly, brushing some hair out of her face. The touch seemed to wake her and she slowly came to her senses.

"Silvie?" She murmured, still groggy from sleep.

"Yep, it seems my body's back to normal, thank god."

"Mm," She pushed herself off the bed, and sat back in her chair. "How are you feeling? Any pain?"

"Yeah, my whole body feels like sh*t, but I'm at least back to being a girl."

"Mm, time curses aren't engineered for such intense body changes, so it's not too surprising your body's taking it hard after two back-to-back transformations. You'll still need to rest for a while, but I can give you a spell to help with the pain?"

"Mmkay, that'd be nice." The mood felt very subdued after the intense emotional rollercoaster we'd both just went through, and the sleepiness felt strangely…nice somehow.

She moved closer to me and put a hand around my arm as she closed her eyes to work her spellcraft. Whatever she was doing looked more complex than a simple heal spell, so it took her a few minutes, but as she worked it was like a healing balm pouring into my body easing all the aches and tension.

"Ahh, that feels so much better." I said as she finished and withdrew back to her chair.

"Mmm, just don't push yourself, ok? What I just did is more the illusion of comfort rather than the real thing. And no magic especially. Your soul's been through a lot, so it needs some time to cool down and sort itself out."

"Aww, that's no fun. Bed rest or nah?"

"You should be fine to get up and move around now, but let's stay in the mansion for the next couple days just in case, yeah?"

"Hmm, what should we do then? It's been a while since we've had so much down time on our hands."

"More like we haven't had any since we met each other." Rivi poked my arm playfully. "Being with the Grenir was kind of relaxing, but we've been through one thing or another ever since getting together."

"Hmm, I guess you're right," I reflected trying to think back to what we'd been up to for the past month. "Well, what do you normally do with downtime?"

"Mmm, in the past it'd be magic, drinking, maybe some swimming or crafting."

"And now?"

"Well ever since Lord Feroth opened a portal between our realm and yours I've been getting into anime, a little manga as well. Occasionally I'll help Bellum with some clothesmaking and cosplay."

"Lord Feroth? Is that someone special? Also how did that portal even come to happen?"

"Lord Feroth is a Higher God who rules over several planes, though how many honestly we have no idea. Even as gods we don't get that many chances to interact with Higher Gods. Maybe a decade or two ago he contacted us to tell us that a space-tether something or other had happened and he needed to open up a portal to stabilize things, I think?

"Anyways, he came and opened the portal. Your world doesn't seem to have any gods on our level, so it was left to us to oversee the connection. The gods mostly use it for entertainment since your world is further along in that aspect. I guess that's why the pantheon over on the Continent of the Gods eventually decided to do an isekai story of their own."

"How long ago did this happen?"

"Mm, about a decade or two? Honestly the anime in your world has gotten so much better in the past years, it's amazing how fast your world changes."

I blinked, slowly trying to wrap my head around all the stuff Rivi had just told me. "You know, I'm going to put aside all that stuff and just say, so long story short, we can watch some anime?"

"Yep!" Rivi waved her hand and a large magic screen projected in the air in front of us.

"Anything you particularly want to watch?" Rivi summoned a light-construct remote which she started using to navigate the programs on the screen.

Seeing the familiar logos of the streaming services from my world gave me a sudden wave of both nostalgia and brain-breaking anachronism. Wasn't I in an isekai story? In medieval world of swords and fantasy? Danger at every step? Destined never to see the familiar sights of the old world without putting in countless hours to reinvent the wheel (or the curry rice) as the situation might be? And yet here was a big flatscreen TV I could watch anime on in bed with my cute anime girlfriend. Did this make sense? Was this real life?

I took a breath dismissing the thoughts. Actually this isn't that weird. Just think of Online Shopper-kun or Barrier Magic Expert, I suppose contact with the old world isn't entirely unprecedented. But why am I thinking in isekai stereotypes? Actually maybe this surreal feeling I'm getting isn't so much from the ability as the concept that I'm really living the isekai right now. Like, damn the shows I used to watch on my bed in my room, um I can watch on this bed in this room. Damn, what the hell, why is this so confusing? I put my hand to my forehead.

"Silvie?" Rivi looked over at me concerned. "Is something hurting again? I can cast the spell again if…"

"No, I'm alright." I cut her off. "I'm just…thinking about how surreal this all is, that's all."

"Ah," she sat back in her chair. "You have been through a lot in the past month or two haven't you. Does it feel weird to see the stuff from your old world that you thought you'd never be in touch with again."

"Yeah," I sighed, looking up at the canopy of my four-poster bed. "I don't know it's weird, is all, I guess."

"Feels too…anachronistic? I guess? Like having a smartphone in Edo-period Japan."

"Well," Rivi smirked. "Our world's just like that, I guess. Some people live in squalor and misery just trying to eek out enough food from the land to survive, some live as nobles and kings ruling over squadrons of knights and mages, and others are children of magic or of the gods, building their own dimensions, visiting other worlds, enjoying every luxury known to man."

"I guess I really got lucky, huh…" I sighed pulling the luxuriously soft blanket closer to my chest.

"Yeah," She looked at me with a strange light in her eyes. "But I think that goes for both of us."
