I Have a Dice Left by a God

Chapter 24: Indistinguishable from the Real (Part 2)

The middle-aged man was Travis, the captain of the Earth Mother Goddess Court's Funeral Attendant Law Enforcement team. He glanced at Rock lying on the ground, but wasn't in a rush and bowed proactively, "Young Master Simmons, thank you for supporting the work of the Funeral Attendants."

"Captain Travis, you're being too polite. It's our duty to cooperate with the Funeral Attendants. We're all one family after all. Rock is my brother and an important member of our Saint's Grace. I must trouble you to take care of him," Simmons said.

Travis checked on Rock, furrowing his brows, but soon they relaxed.

"It has nothing to do with the Abyss, so it's not a big problem. I'll take him back in a moment to go through the procedures. He's not the only case. Several others have appeared recently, all buyers, and all of them Moncalleta people." Due to the George Family's face, Travis spoke very directly. He was also worried about troublesome matters like Abyssal Worms. Once identified as the Fallen or a heretic, the situation becomes quite serious.

He then looked at Li Xin, who was obviously not Moncalleta, "Who is this?"

"Li Xin, a member of our Saint's Grace squad, is a Lirong immigrant," Simmons said.

Travis asked no more questions and had the law enforcers take Rock away, being very polite throughout the process and gentle with Rock as well. The Fake Embryo incident has already attracted considerable attention from the Church Court. The most controversial period was in the early days when being found with a Fake Embryo was a dire situation, perhaps even leading to detections by the Inquisition, almost ensuring death. But as Fake Embryos spread, with no apparent issues found in various investigations, they had to be handled more leniently, though supervision was inevitable. If anything is discovered, it must be reported to the Funeral Attendant or Church.

What is interesting is that those sellers truly disappear without a trace after selling, with no news. Even within the Funeral Attendants, there's amazement. Although the cost isn't low, compared to the true value of an Original Embryo, this cost is insignificant.

The opposite side's channels are very secretive, seeking out customers with purchase power. By the time the Funeral Attendants discover it, a long time has passed with no traces left.

Back in the carriage, Rock still wasn't awake, but his body was fine. The instability of the Fake Embryo was a bit like a worm, but it wasn't a worm—it was indeed an Original Embryo, which had a tendency to mutate. But if interrupted in time, it would go back to normal. Of course, this phenomenon itself isn't normal; severe cases may burst out and die but wouldn't turn into a monster.

Li Xin… Lirong?

The name sounded familiar as if seen somewhere before. Suddenly, Travis's eyes lit up; he had recently seen a list with Lirong members of the Hex Bird Report, actually Night Patrol, since the Bird Report also handled secretive events, needing some Ability Users to resolve matters.

Though both sides cooperated, it was still the Earth Temple's territory, and the contract required that Night Patrol-identifying Bird Report members must report when arriving in Hedan, thereby obtaining legal identity, or they would all be treated as heretics. The list had the name Li Xin.

He appeared at Saint Grace Canon Law School?

Travis didn't want unnecessary complications, but he could remind Simmons, after all, he was the heir of the George Family. Leaving a good friendship isn't bad. He'd bring it up when sending Rock back.

Actually, members of secret organizations from various countries were the same, hovering on the edge of death. Hedan was affluent, but the secrecy bred by affluence was even more twisted and dangerous, not much better than Night Patrol. The only solace was the treatment, which was indeed more lenient than for Night Patrol members.

Within the base of the Saint Grace Canon Law School, interrupted by this matter, everyone's mood was somewhat complicated. Among the team members, there were some without an Original Embryo. Not knowing before was one thing, but hearing about such Original Embryos now, and the risks not being high, though unspoken, clearly had them tempted.

Humanity's desire for power is hard to suppress. Simmons didn't say much more.

They also got to know Li Xin, aware of his good skills, but to say there was liking, there wasn't any real affinity. However, Lancer actively shook hands with Li Xin, welcoming him. After all, Simmons was his boss, the one he'd follow for life, so he couldn't undermine him.

Even if he was just a cook.

"A cook???" Celestia was shocked.

"Cooks really well. I feel like the boss picked him half for his skills, half for his cooking," Lancer said.

"I had no idea Simmons had this hobby," Celestia genuinely didn't expect this, a Lirong cook, a former Black Rose member. Seeing Simmons with a flattering demeanor, she was baffled. Naturally, Simmons isn't a fool; there must be some hidden reason for this. She intended to interrogate him properly at night.

Simmons returned Li Xin, today was just a meeting; the procedures to enter the Canon Law School were still being processed. He also planned to get Li Xin permanent residency in Hedan. Initially, Li Xin only had temporary stay authorization in Hedan, which Dragon Mother helped arrange, and it required guarantees. Though Dragon Mother was sharp-tongued, when it came to making money, she was genuinely helpful.

"How long has the Fake Embryo been appearing?" In the spacious, comfortable carriage, moving very smoothly, equipped with snacks, Li Xin asked while eating.

Simmons didn't appear so happy, as the issue was with his team member. He was a bit worried about Rock, and once he sent Li Xin back, he needed to visit the Funeral Attendants. If someone there mishandled things, there could be trouble.

"That's hard to say, but since even I know about it, it should have been a while. It's unknown how many people used the Fake Embryos before it was discovered," Simmons said, "Brother Li is interested in this?"

"Yes, I previously took a reporter job at the Hex Bird Report, part-time Night Patrol," Li Xin said.

Simmons paused but wasn't too surprised. Considering the chaos in the Celestial Capital, Li Xin entering the Secret Castle indicated he wasn't ordinary. Now it seemed he was from the Moon God branch, probably a very secretive member. Fortunately, the Moon God's Court and Earth Mother Goddess Court, Lirong and Moncalleta were allies; hopefully, he wasn't playing with fire.

"These kinds of things can't be reported, but they're good as mission intelligence," Simmons laughed. He vaguely knew that both sides had a degree of intelligence sharing but didn't want to delve too deeply. Nobles needed to maintain good relations with secret organizations, but the balance had to be right.

Simmons had the advantage of not looking for trouble, needing to know what he was supposed to, and this was what Li Xin liked about him.

"If you have information on this, let me know. I'm very interested," Li Xin said, "What's the plan for tomorrow?"

"The Canon Law School base, I'll give them a break tomorrow," Simmons said.

After returning Li Xin to the Lirong Inn, Simmons immediately had the carriage head quickly to the Funeral Attendants' Inquisition. If Rock was fine, it would be good for the Canon Law School.

The existing Divine Relics and Original Embryos essentially had origins. These Fake Embryos, how should one put it, were both good and bad. Good in that their cost-effectiveness is extraordinary; bad in that they were not under Church control.

Even more unsettling for the Church was, what did the organization behind it intend to do? In this world, there's no such thing as a favor for no reason...
