Chapter 759 Struggle for the Chief Position_1

With a sigh in his heart, Jiang Chen once again looked up towards the ring, his gaze falling on a figure that was both strange and yet familiar.

"Jiang Minglong wins four in a row! Just one more victory, and the position of Chief Disciple will be his!" A refined elder by the side of the ring called out loudly.

As soon as the elder finished speaking, Jiang Minglong's opponent clasped his fists in resignation and turned to hop down from the ring.

"Brother Minglong is mighty!"

"Brother Minglong is domineering!"

"Brother Minglong is the crowd's choice!"

Cheers erupted from around the ring.

Jiang Chen glanced around and noticed that the people south of the ring were all shouting, while those on the western side had expressions of marked displeasure.

"Who are those people?" Jiang Chen gestured towards the ones on the western side.

Chen Tao whispered, "Both the people leading the groups on the west and the south are Inner Sect Disciples from the sect. Those on the south side are supporting Uncle Master Minglong, while the ones on the west are supporting Uncle Master Li Wushuang. Now that Uncle Master Minglong has secured four consecutive victories, he only needs one more win to seize the identity of Chief Disciple."

Understanding dawned on Jiang Chen, and he nodded. It was natural for a place with people to breed competition, and it was normal for the opposing side to look displeased when his own father won.

Quietly releasing a thread of energy, Jiang Chen controlled it to circle around the ring and probe the strength of those on the western side.

Among the people on the west were several Semi Innate Grand Masters and one Innate Grandmaster.

This person must be that Li Wushuang, right?

Jiang Chen murmured inside, turning his head to look again at Jiang Minglong, his lips curving into a faint smile.

He could tell, Jiang Minglong too was an Innate Grandmaster, and the aura he emanated was much more profound than that of Li Wushuang.

If nothing unexpected happened, the last fight would be Li Wushuang personally stepping in, and Jiang Minglong taking him down was a sure thing.

"What exactly does the title of Chief Disciple mean?" Jiang Chen breathed a sigh of relief and turned to look at Chen Tao.

Judging by Jiang Minglong's strength and popularity, the Chixiao Sect seemed to have treated him well.

With eyes full of envy, Chen Tao said, "Chief Disciple means the number one disciple, one of the candidates for the sect leader. Every three years, the sect selects a Chief Disciple, and after there are three, they are sent down from the mountain for trials. When the time is ripe, the selection process for Sect Master begins!"

Whoosh!

Amid the cheers of the many disciples, a figure leapt onto the ring.

"Brother Li Wushuang!"

"Wushuang without equal, unmatched in all the world!"

"Go Li Wushuang!"

With that figure ascending the ring, the group of disciples on the western side began to shout loudly.

"Brother Minglong is the strongest!"

"Minglong, the Stygian Dragon, reigns over You Ming!"

"Dragon of You Ming, undefeated in battle!"

The Inner Sect Disciples on the south side also shouted back, not willing to be outdone.

Jiang Chen looked amusedly at both groups of Inner Sect Disciples. In the Chixiao Sect, reaching the Heavenly Level automatically promoted one to Inner Sect Disciple, and their generational status also increased by one rank, requiring all Outer Sect Disciples to address the Inner Sect Disciples as Uncle Master.

At the moment, there were more than a hundred people standing to the west of the ring, and the same number to the south; these were all the current Inner Sect Disciples of the Chixiao Sect, while the Outer Sect Disciples behind Jiang Chen numbered over a thousand.

Although numerous, the Outer Sect Disciples were crammed to one side in the east, with no one daring to cross the line to the south, let alone venture to the north.

"By the way, who is... Jiang Minglong's master?" Jiang Chen suddenly thought of something and turned to look at Chen Tao.

Chen Tao glanced at the people on the north side and said in a low voice, "Uncle Master Minglong's mentor is the Sixth Elder, and Uncle Master Li Wushuang's mentor is the Second Elder."

"The Sixth Elder?" Jiang Chen frowned slightly: "Ranked sixth? Doesn't that put Jiang Minglong at an inherent disadvantage?"

Chen Tao smiled faintly upon hearing this, "The ranking of the Great Elders is based on the time they joined the sect, while the standing within the sect is determined by strength. Although they sit according to their seniority as elders, Elder Mo's prestige is second only to the Sect Master and is on par with the Great Elder. Moreover, the Sixth and Seventh Elders are husband and wife."

Jiang Chen was momentarily startled before he felt reassured. Judging by strength, the Sixth Elder indeed was far superior to the Second Elder, at least by an entire street, even the Seventh Elder was stronger than the Second Elder, and the Sixth and Seventh were a couple.

Well, dad's backing is pretty solid!

"Jiang Minglong, just one more victory and you will be able to secure the position of the last of the three Chief Disciples, aren't you excited?" Li Wushuang said coldly as he stepped onto the stage, looking at Jiang Minglong.

Jiang Minglong's expression was neither sad nor happy, and he spoke indifferently, "If I win it, I am fortunate; if I lose it, it is destiny."

"Stop being so sanctimonious. If you're truly so detached, why bother competing with me?" Li Wushuang glared fiercely at Jiang Minglong, yelling angrily.

Jiang Minglong's eyes shifted slightly, a trace of helplessness as he glanced towards the north side of the arena. The Seventh Elder, Fan Shuqian, noticing Jiang Minglong's gaze, glared back at him fiercely.

Mo Tianze, aware of the situation, looked up at the sky, as though there was something novel happening above.

The others pursed their lips and chuckled lightly, while the Second Elder looked at Fan Shuqian with a dark expression.

Lin Jiuxiao and the Seventh Great Elders all knew that Jiang Minglong didn't desire the title of Chief Disciple. His years of diligent practice were just to reach his goals sooner, simply to leave the mountain earlier.

But Fan Shuqian told him that he must take the position of the final Chief Disciple.

Though unwilling, Jiang Minglong had no choice but to agree, also to bring honor to his master.

"We've come this far, talking is useless now. Brother Wushuang, let's begin!" Jiang Minglong shook his head gently, his expression calm as he looked at Li Wushuang.

Li Wushuang's face darkened, and he gritted his teeth, "If that's the case, don't blame me for being ruthless. Injuries or even deaths are quite normal in a duel."

"Please!" Jiang Minglong's expression was unchanged, still looking at Li Wushuang with detached eyes.

Whoosh!

Li Wushuang dashed towards Jiang Minglong in a flash.

Bang bang bang!

The two exchanged blows fiercely the moment they engaged, with Jiang Minglong's palms flying, each move targeting vital points, putting Li Wushuang at a disadvantage right from the start.

Watching the fight, Jiang Chen frowned slightly.

Li Wushuang's strength was clearly below his father's level by a tier, so why was he being so persistently troublesome? His father had several opportunities to defeat him but did not really take action, already giving him face. Wasn't he a little too unaware?

Bang!

A muffled sound echoed from the arena, Jiang Minglong frowned as he struck Li Wushuang on the chest with a palm, sending him flying backward and crashing harshly onto the arena.

"Minglong brother is invincible!"

"Minglong brother is mighty and domineering!"

The Inner Sect Disciples in the south side shouted loudly one after another.

Jiang Minglong, catching a glimpse of Li Wushuang not getting up, his eyes flashing with a hint of surprise, called out with confusion, "Brother Wushuang?"

The crowd around the arena became aware that something was amiss, and suddenly shut their mouths, staring intently at the fallen Li Wushuang.

"Brother Wushuang? Are you okay?"

Jiang Minglong, with a puzzled face, walked towards Li Wushuang. He was well aware of his own strength; that palm strike, though powerful, was only delivered with sixty percent of his ability, aimed at repelling Li Wushuang without intending to harm him.

He dealt with each competitor by repelling rather than injuring them, for he was compelled to participate in this contest and did not wish to hurt anyone.

Lin Jiuxiao and the others in the north side of the arena also frowned, their faces not filled with concern but with confusion, as they too had noticed that Jiang Minglong's palm should not have caused serious harm to Li Wushuang.

As Jiang Minglong approached Li Wushuang, a strong sense of unease suddenly surged in Jiang Chen's heart.

In his haste, Jiang Chen shouted loudly,

"Don't go over."
