Lin Xiao knew why she was afraid. It was because she feared loss.
"Don't be afraid. I'm here now, and I guarantee your grandfather will be fine," Lin Xiao consoled.
His words indeed provided Chu Xiangxue with immense comfort. She nodded vigorously. After a brief hug, they let go.
Just then, the distinguished-looking young man standing to the side smiled and asked in a gentle tone, "Xiang Xue, is this the friend you mentioned?"
Chu Xiangxue nodded. "Lin Xiao, let me introduce you. This is my friend, Cheng Shaoshang."
The other man smiled at Lin Xiao and proactively extended his hand. "Hello, my name is Cheng Shaoshang!"
Lin Xiao shook his hand. "Hello, I'm Lin Xiao."
"Welcome to Shengjing. We're especially grateful that you've come to treat Xiang Xue's grandfather."
"You're too kind."
After a brief exchange of pleasantries, the three of them got into the car. Cheng Shaoshang drove while Lin Xiao and Chu Xiangxue sat in the back.
"What's your grandfather's situation right now?"
"He's still in a coma, and the situation is very bad," Chu Xiangxue said, her expression bleak. As she spoke, her beautiful eyes began to redden once again, and she seemed on the verge of tears.
When Lin Xiao had taken her to the airport yesterday, Chu Xiangxue had mentioned she was returning to Shengjing because of her grandfather's health problems. Lin Xiao had assumed it was nothing serious, but he hadn't expected it to be so grave.
"Don't worry. First, take me to see the situation for myself."
Chu Xiangxue agreed. The car sped toward the hospital like a bolt of lightning.
More than forty minutes later, they arrived at the hospital entrance. The three of them got out of the car, and led by Chu Xiangxue, they hurried inside.
They had just reached the entrance when a square-faced, middle-aged man came to greet them. The man was burly, with an extraordinary presence and a strong aura of authority. Lin Xiao recognized him. It was the helmsman of the Shengjing Chu Family, Chu Guopeng.
Upon seeing him, Chu Xiangxue said hurriedly, "Dad, Lin Xiao is here!"
Chu Guopeng's gaze quickly fell upon Lin Xiao. After sizing him up for a moment, he firmly grasped Lin Xiao's hand and said respectfully, "Mr. Lin, hello. Thank you for coming."
"Uncle Chu, please don't be so formal. Xiang Xue and I are friends, so just call me Lin Xiao."
Chu Guopeng nodded. "How is the Old Master doing now?"
"He's still in a coma!"
"Take me to see him."
"Of course," Chu Guopeng replied, making a gesture to invite him in.
Lin Xiao strode quickly into the hospital. The ICU ward couldn't be entered casually, but that rule was for ordinary people, and Lin Xiao was no ordinary person. Besides, the Chu Family was the largest shareholder of this top private hospital in Shengjing.
In the spacious ward, an elderly man with white hair lay silently on the hospital bed. Various instruments were hooked up to his body, and he looked exceedingly pitiful.
Without any unnecessary words, Lin Xiao promptly felt the old man's pulse and began his diagnosis. Frankly, the so-called diagnosis was merely for show. After all, for Lin Xiao, as long as a person still had a single breath left in them, he could save them.
However, not long into the diagnosis, Lin Xiao's brow furrowed for a moment before quickly returning to normal. After finishing his examination, he let go of the old man's hand.
"Lin Xiao, how is he?" Chu Guopeng asked expectantly.
Lin Xiao nodded. "The problem isn't serious, but…"
"But what?" Chu Xiangxue asked quickly.
Lin Xiao smiled. "It's nothing major. It's just that I prefer no one else be present while I perform the treatment. So, if you would all please step out for a bit and give me some time?"
Chu Guopeng knew Lin Xiao was the distinguished apprentice of the Sect Master of Immortal Medicine—and his only direct disciple. He naturally wouldn't dare to disregard Lin Xiao's request. He nodded quickly and said, "Of course. Lin Xiao, if you need anything, just ask."
"There's no need. I brought my own silver needles."
This, of course, was a deliberate lie. The real purpose was to hide his secret of using Dragon Blood for healing. Although the Chu Family was a member of the A9 Alliance and thus considered one of his own, it was always better to be safe than sorry. A little caution never hurt anyone.
"Very well, we'll leave it in your hands then," Chu Guopeng said respectfully.
Lin Xiao smiled. "Uncle, you're being too polite."
Chu Guopeng nodded, then led Chu Xiangxue and Cheng Shaoshang out of the room.
Only Lin Xiao and Chu Xiangxue's grandfather remained in the spacious hospital room. After confirming they were alone, Lin Xiao used the Xuantian Needle to prick his fingertip. A drop of golden Dragon Blood slowly oozed out. He opened the old man's mouth and let the drop of Dragon Blood fall inside.
With that done, Lin Xiao sat down to the side, quietly waiting for the old man to awaken.
Sure enough, less than three minutes after the Dragon Blood entered his mouth, the old man groggily opened his eyes. He stared at the ceiling for a while before noticing Lin Xiao's presence.
"Who are you?" the old man asked.
"My name is Lin Xiao. I'm the one who saved you," he replied with a smile.
"Bai Wushuang's apprentice?" the old man asked.
Bai Wushuang was the name of Lin Xiao's Master, the Sect Master of Immortal Medicine.
Lin Xiao nodded. "You know my Master?"
"Of course. We're on quite good terms. I often hear him speak of you."
Lin Xiao smiled. "I'm sure he has nothing good to say."
The old man shook his head. "On the contrary, he speaks very highly of you. He says your medical skills surpass his ten thousandfold!"
"That part is true," Lin Xiao said, completely unabashed.
The old man chuckled, amused. "How did you save me?"
"Do you know of the Xuantian Needle?" Lin Xiao asked in return.
The old man nodded. "The ultimate treasure of the Immortal Doctor Sect. It seems your Master truly dotes on you, to have even given you the Xuantian Needle."
"He's alright," Lin Xiao replied noncommittally.
"So, it was the Xuantian Needle that saved me?"
"Exactly."
The old man nodded again. "Where is Xiang Xue?"
"She's waiting outside. Should I call them in?"
The old man smiled. "Yes, let them in."
"One moment."
Lin Xiao got up and left the ICU room. Seeing him emerge, Chu Guopeng and Chu Xiangxue quickly rushed over.
"Lin Xiao, how is it?" Chu Guopeng asked with immense concern.
"There's nothing to worry about. The Old Master is awake and is asking for you," Lin Xiao said casually.
His words struck Chu Guopeng and Chu Xiangxue like a clap of thunder. Father and daughter stared at Lin Xiao, utterly stunned.
Of course, they were overjoyed that the Old Master was awake, but Lin Xiao's medical skill was simply too astonishing. The doctors, after all, had already pronounced it a terminal case. Yet Lin Xiao had cured him in less than five minutes. How could anyone not be shocked?
Chu Xiangxue was the first to snap out of it. Without a word to Lin Xiao, she rushed directly into the room. Cheng Shaoshang followed closely behind.
To be honest, he was also curious to see if Lin Xiao had truly healed the Chu family patriarch. After all, Cheng Shaoshang knew just how critical the old man's condition had been.
Chu Guopeng also came to his senses and was about to enter, but Lin Xiao stopped him.
Chu Guopeng's heart lurched. He feared Lin Xiao was about to deliver bad news. He asked in a heavy tone, "Lin Xiao, is my father's condition still critical?"
"No, the Old Master's body is fine now. But there is something else I need to tell you."
"What is it?" Chu Guopeng pressed. He knew Lin Xiao wouldn't have stopped him over something trivial.
"The Old Master was poisoned. That's what caused his condition to become so critical."
The revelation hit Chu Guopeng like a physical blow, leaving him stunned.
