Global Game: I Can Choose Instance Rewards

Chapter 154: Boarding Thirteenth Hospital

"Building manager! I beg you to give me an extra day, let me do the task tomorrow! I can't die! My wife and kids are waiting for me to support them! I'm begging you!"

The old building manager had just refused the school-uniformed young man's request to change tasks, when suddenly in front of him, among the twelve residents, a middle-aged man with a beer belly knelt to the ground. He was kowtowing and loudly begging the building manager to allow him not to participate in today's blood task, but to do it tomorrow instead.

Everyone saw a man of considerable age making such a request and had different expressions, but the old building manager's face remained indifferent.

"I've said it many times, maybe you newcomers still don't understand, so I'll say it again! Whoever's name the blood task calls today must choose one task to complete! This is non-negotiable! If anyone thinks they're special and doesn't need to go, that's fine! You can choose to stay in this apartment and never go out! But if something happens to you later, don't blame me for not warning you!"

The hunchbacked building manager's voice was loud enough to almost hurt the eardrums of all the residents on the floor. After speaking, he didn't spare the kneeling middle-aged man another glance, instead sweeping his gaze towards Wang Zhifan and the others, urging:

"Alright, I've analyzed all four tasks for you already, now quickly make your choice! Stop dawdling! The bus will arrive soon!"

As soon as he finished speaking, the eleven standing residents looked at each other, frowning and pondering, just like Wang Zhifan and the other four players were doing.

"What does everyone think?"

The extroverted school-uniformed young man looked at his three teammates, his expression calm with a slight smile.

"Let's choose the fourth mountain climbing task... watching the sunset feels pretty romantic to me."

The petite and sweet-looking Assassin girl was the first to voice her opinion.

"I also agree to choose mountain climbing."

Wang Zhifan was the second to speak after listening,

"Since every task has its traps, let's choose the one that seems least disgusting. Anyway, whatever comes our way, we'll deal with it as it happens, and the truth will be revealed through our actions."

He didn't expect the task to be easy, but he hoped it would be more pleasing to the eye.

"As long as it's not the first task, I'm fine with it, I don't like retrieving corpses."

The average-looking middle-aged gunman responded indifferently.

"Alright... actually, I recommend the third task, but since the Assassin girl favors the fourth task, let's go with that."

The school-uniformed young man adjusted his black-framed glasses as he spoke.

He originally considered that with a teammate who's an Assassin, a profession good at searching, the third task of finding offerings would be the most suitable. But since the Assassin girl preferred the mountain climbing task, he didn't insist, especially since, as Wang Zhifan said, none of these tasks are easy, and in the end, they would have to rely on their strength to solve the problems.

After communicating with his teammates, the school-uniformed young man then approached the other eight residents who were about to participate in the blood task, asking about their thoughts, as they needed to complete the dungeon task with at least two NPC teammates.

However, this process of recruiting teammates turned out to be much easier than the school-uniformed young man anticipated. He quickly discovered that all the residents leaned towards choosing the fourth mountain climbing task, including the beer-bellied middle-aged man who had just been begging the building manager on his knees.

This made things fairly straightforward, as all twelve people participating in today's blood task informed the old building manager that they would participate in the fourth blood task, meaning everyone was forming a team to climb Wangfeng Mountain.

"Hmm... If you're sure, I'll start marking names here, and once marked, you can't change the task. Are you all really decided?"

Finally, the old building manager held a book with the blood-red words "Apartment 444" and spoke to everyone.

The twelve residents either nodded decisively or hesitantly, with none choosing to change their minds, as following the main group to the fourth task was the safest choice.

"Alright, I've marked the names. The bus will arrive soon, so get ready."

The old building manager then made a few marks on the old blood-written book with his aged fingers, then moved to the glass door to quietly watch outside, seemingly waiting for the bus to arrive.

About fifteen minutes later, as a black bus stopped on the desolate and dilapidated street outside Apartment 444 and opened its middle door, the twelve apartment residents, who had been waiting at the glass door, rushed towards it under the watchful eyes of the building manager. Nearly at the moment the door opened, everyone bolted towards Bus 444, except Wang Zhifan and the other three players, who walked quickly but not as anxiously.

"It seems like no ghosts took the chance to attack... but the leather-jacketed young man's body at the door from yesterday is long gone; maybe it's hiding nearby."

Wang Zhifan, walking briskly through the apartment's glass door, opened his senses fully to stay alert for any evil entities that might attack, but he found no disturbances nearby. He and his three player teammates, along with eight apartment residents, successfully boarded the open-door Bus 444, with everyone quickly taking their seats.

Upon boarding, Wang Zhifan noticed that the bus's interior temperature was a few degrees cooler than outside, bringing an unusual chill to the passengers. A faint, almost imperceptible stench of decay also lingered in the air. Additionally, he noticed that besides the twelve from Apartment 444, there was another person already seated at the back of the bus.

It was a male youth in a blood-stained white lab coat, with a relatively pale complexion but appearing otherwise normal. He was flipping through a thin book and, when the apartment residents boarded, briefly glanced at them with a look of inquiry before swiftly returning his focus to his book.

"This person's aura is undoubtedly human... He managed to board Bus 444, clearly not from Apartment 444, and with the white lab coat, he should be from the so-called Thirteenth Hospital."

Wang Zhifan noticed the passengers on the bus weren't only from the apartment when he first saw it yesterday, so he specifically asked the building manager and others about it. He learned that in this strange world, besides residents of Apartment 444, other organizations also use the black bus, including one known as the Thirteenth Hospital.
