Chapter 261: Someone Looks Familiar

At the back of the carriage, the ghostly liquid aimed to envelop the eerie claws, but its intention was thwarted as the target suddenly vanished, forcing it to seek out a new target. After all, the cold-faced woman it had controlled earlier had seized the chance to flee.

Moreover, the short-haired, slender woman who was originally the second closest to it had long since disappeared without a trace. Thus, it quickly locked onto Wang Zhifan, who was currently the nearest, transforming into a puddle of liquid that silently and stealthily flowed across the floor toward him.

"If you're coming for me, I don't mind seeing you off."

Wang Zhifan knew that the greatest advantage of this type of ghost was stealth, especially in the dark carriage where ordinary players found it extremely difficult to track its movements. Combined with its strong control at close range, it was indeed very troublesome to deal with.

However, his perception was far superior to that of a typical player. Even in the darkness where he couldn't see, he could rely on his all-encompassing sense to perceive everything. Therefore, this creature posed little threat to him. How could something with slow movement monitored the whole time harm anyone?

So, he sat there waiting calmly for the opponent to approach from behind, planning to strike once it got close enough, giving it a taste of multiple types of high damage.

As seconds ticked by, the silent ghostly liquid flowed on the floor within two meters of Wang Zhifan. By that time, he had already risen from his seat to stand in the aisle, raising Thunder Dragon Fury in his hand, ready to deliver a harsh blow to the ghostly entity on the ground.

But just as he slashed out, an anomaly reappeared; specifically, a claw materialized out of thin air behind his head, aiming for his nape! Clearly, it was the same one that had rescued the cold-faced woman not long ago!

"Heh... I was waiting for your sneak attack!"

Faced with the sudden situation, Wang Zhifan not only didn't panic but seemed prepared. A circle of ice energy erupted from him, freezing the claw attacking his head, and even more so, freezing the ghostly liquid in front of him as solid as ice. Then the Thunder Dragon Fury in his hand unleashed a blade glow, piercing through the frozen ghostly matter on the ground, before twisting with his formidable waist strength to strike at the claw behind him, hitting it directly!

Screech!

In an instant, a sound of something breaking was heard in the darkness, followed by a slight noise as it fell to the ground.

Though Wang Zhifan didn't possess night vision, his extremely powerful perception made him aware that his counterattack was only half successful. The reason was that while the claw which appeared out of thin air had been hit and damaged by him, it vanished again at the last moment, leaving only a few nails on the floor.

"What exactly is this thing? It's more than likely not a ghost..."

He made a judgment in his heart, a few thoughts flashed through his mind, but he took no action, instead focusing his attention on another spot on the floor. There, the ghostly liquid, which had been successively attacked by his ice energy and blade glow, had fragmented into glass-like shards, each trembling slightly, as if trying to gather themselves together.

"Still struggling after all this... It seems I need to increase the intensity."

Seeing this, Wang Zhifan further strengthened the ice energy supplement, further freezing and suppressing this stubborn ghost, making even trembling impossible.

He then thought he might treat this thing to a spectacle of both ice and fire, decisively channeling the power of the Demon Dragon Battle Armor he wore, spitting flames to burn the controlled ghost on the ground.

The light of the flames was suppressed in this darkness, invisible, but its destructive heat wasn't diminished at all. In no time, under his precise control, the ghostly entity on the floor was burned cleanly. It was unclear if fire inherently restrained this liquid-like ghost type, or if the ghost had been pushed to its limits, just needing this last round of attack.

"Easily resolved."

After eliminating this fairly powerful enemy, Wang Zhifan then returned to his seat in the aisle.

During his movement, he focused his perception ahead and saw the cold-faced woman who had escaped to the front of the carriage earlier, seemingly turning to face his direction, while the youth with dark circles was putting a band-aid on his neck, and the middle-aged man with oily features was muttering something, holding that red box.

"Was it her? Or someone else?"

Wang Zhifan was instantly suspicious that the one who had used the claw sneak attack might be one of them, although a female player who was still missing also held some suspicion.

By the time he was truly seated again, he realized that the dark carriage had fully returned to peace. The two ghosts that entered from the front and back doors had been respectively sealed and eliminated, and the claw that could appear out of thin air had suffered severe damage and wasn't attempting any more sneak attacks. It seemed the most dangerous moment had already been passed by them.

"There are still movements at the door, but it seems to be sealed by some force, unable to come through for now."

Wang Zhifan then shifted his observational focus to the front and rear doors, trying to deduce how many more ghosts might come in to bother them. But the situation turned out to be better than he expected; this train didn't seem inclined to let more ghosts gang up on them in the dark.

As he mulled this over, a slim figure that had been missing for a while reappeared at the rear seats. The person seemed calm, suggesting they had ascertained the carriage was safe before appearing.
