Undead Mage: I Have a Skeleton Clone

Chapter 291: Refining Undead Essence Combat Power Soars!

The appearance of the Zombie Wolves was fearsome. Their skin had a sickly, gray-green hue and was covered in sores and festering wounds of all sizes. In some places, bare white bone was exposed. Despite their severe decay, the lines of their powerful muscles were still clearly visible, displaying their formidable strength. From their huge mouths jutted a pair of razor-sharp fangs, which reflected a chilling gleam in the dim light. These Zombie Wolves prowled slowly around the small hill. Their movements seemed aimless, yet they followed a regular patrol pattern as if guarding something important.

Watching the Zombie Wolf Pack, Fang Zhou could almost feel the potent and alluring energy within their bodies. It stoked his hunger to the point that he nearly drooled. However, he did not act immediately. Instead, he hid behind a hill to wait patiently, closely observing every move the Zombie Wolves made as he looked for the right moment to strike.

This was the first time the Skeleton Clone had encountered a Zombie Wolf Pack, and it was unsure how they differed from humanoid Zombies. It was also Fang Zhou's first time discovering Undead Creatures that, unlike all the others, weren't solitary fighters.

For as long as he could remember, his understanding was that Low-Level Undead Creatures in the world of the undead were all solitary warriors. Each individual struggled tirelessly for survival and evolution. Whether they were the weak, newly resurrected Apprentice-level Skeletons, the more evolved Black Iron Tier Skeleton Warriors, or the decrepit yet still threatening Zombies, their only form of interaction was combat. This endless struggle stemmed from their sole remaining instinct: to devour or be devoured. Any encounter between them was a fight to the death—a winner-take-all struggle. Every victory meant an increase in power; every failure meant total annihilation.

By leveraging this very fact, Fang Zhou was able to cleverly manipulate his Skeleton Squad. Through teamwork, he greatly enhanced their hunting efficiency while avoiding many unnecessary risks.

However, he had now encountered a group of Undead Creatures on this small hill that coexisted peacefully, each keeping to themselves. This discovery piqued his interest.

Did these Zombie Wolves truly possess some form of intelligence beyond instinct? How did they overcome that deep-seated urge to devour and achieve such a rare state of coexistence?

Filled with curiosity, Fang Zhou cautiously dispersed his Skeleton Squad to carry on with their planned hunt. He, however, remained where he was to quietly observe this unique group of Undead Creatures.

The night was as black as ink and utterly silent.

About half an hour later, a Zombie Wolf measuring roughly two meters in length was the first to break the calm. It slowly turned and walked away from the rim of the volcano. Then a second, a third, and more Zombie Wolves followed suit. Soon, all the smaller wolves had departed, leaving only the gigantic leader—a beast over five meters long—still guarding the volcano's edge as if protecting something important.

Fang Zhou waited patiently. Another half an hour passed. Seeing that the huge Zombie Wolf still had no intention of leaving, he finally decided to abandon his plan for further exploration.

Under the cover of night, Fang Zhou carefully retreated. He took each step with extreme caution, fearing that any sound might attract unwanted attention. Once he was certain he was several kilometers away from the mysterious area, he quickened his pace, rushing in the direction the two-meter-long Zombie Wolves had gone.

Having evolved multiple times, the Skeleton Clone was incredibly fast and caught up to one of the Zombie Wolves in no time.

At that moment, the Zombie Wolf was also hunting. Its target was a Great Sword Skeleton Warrior, whose aura was significantly weaker in comparison. The Great Sword Skeleton Warrior struggled to resist but was clearly in dire straits.

This scene caught Fang Zhou's eye, sending a chill down his spine. He had originally thought they were just ordinary Zombie Wolves, but they exhibited unexpected strength, easily suppressing a fellow Black Iron Tier Skeleton Warrior. This reminded Fang Zhou of the Golden Tier Stone Golem that Su Xinyan had once summoned.

Could it be that these Zombie Wolves are a new species, one that has never been discovered by human Undead Mages?

Filled with questions, Fang Zhou's gaze grew colder. He looked especially monstrous in the dark, yet his massive body moved like a shadow, silently closing in on its target.

When the distance between them narrowed to less than twenty meters, the Skeleton Clone's long-accumulated power finally erupted. Its gnarled, muscular thighs suddenly flexed, and its entire body shot forward like an arrow loosed from a bow, moving at an astonishing speed.

"Heroic Charge!"

With a low growl, the Long Spear in the Skeleton Clone's hand became a bolt of lightning streaking toward the Zombie Wolf's vitals. The energy that erupted from the spear tip tore through the air, creating a powerful shockwave. This strike was not only incredibly fast but also possessed an overwhelming power capable of destroying anything in its path, so much so that the spearhead seemed to create a vacuum at the moment of impact.
