God's Imitator

Chapter 59: Choosing the New Member

Upon hearing the new broadcast, the players in the hall were a bit surprised.

"Huh? A new player?"

"Is it possible to add more people? Does that mean the community can always maintain 12 people?"

The community of 12 had become only 11, and although it was just one person less, it always felt like the hall was emptier and not as lively as before.

This feeling made many people a bit downcast.

But if it could be filled up to 12 people again, it would definitely become lively once more.

This also made many people full of anticipation for the new member.

Su Xiuqin instinctively shook her head: "But, where will the newcomer live after they arrive? We only have 12 rooms."

Li Renshu thought for a moment: "The broadcast said he would become the new number 10 player. So, it means he will stay in the room that was originally Uncle Ding's, right?"

"I think the Walkway will most likely 'reset' the room's state, reverting it back to its unoccupied original state."

Su Xiuqin instinctively resisted: "No! If that happens, the traces of Brother Ding's existence here would be completely gone, wouldn't they?"

The crowd was momentarily speechless.

Clearly, most people didn't care about this but were too embarrassed to say it out loud.

The hall fell into an awkward silence.

In the end, Li Renshu persuaded: "Aunt Su, we couldn't originally take out personal belongings from the room, and we can't enter Uncle Ding's room either.

"Uncle Ding's wristband is still here, which is evidence of his existence. He was a good man, and we'll remember him in our hearts."

"But the community must recruit new members because later there might be group games. If we're short one person, we'll naturally be at a disadvantage."

"I believe that Brother Ding's spirit in heaven would also hope for us to move on quickly."

Su Xiuqin looked a bit desolate, as if she still wanted to say something, but seeing Li Renshu's expression, she eventually sighed.

"Alright. Then you all discuss it, whatever kind of new member you choose, I have no opinion."

After saying that, she tiredly went upstairs.

Wang Yongxin was sitting by the window, drinking coffee, and helplessly curled his lips.

He touched the bruise on his neck, which still hurt, unsure how long it would take to heal.

Fu Chen called out: "If everyone has time, shall we have a meeting to discuss? What type of person should we choose for the new number 10 player?"

Everyone sat down around the long table, and some went to find those who were not present.

Before long, all 10 people, except Su Xiuqin, were gathered.

Despite some attempts to hide it, most people displayed expressions of anticipation.

Fu Chen briefly introduced the recruitment rules and then said: "We can now make requests for the community. What kind of new member do you all think we need the most?"

"Xu Tong, aren't you the human resources manager? How about you speak first."

Xu Tong was a bit surprised to be called upon because, in similar previous scenarios, she rarely spoke up.

It was apparent that Fu Chen intentionally wanted those community members who were less noticeable to participate more in community discussions.

Xu Tong thought for a moment: "A chef. If it were up to me, I would really want a chef."

Everyone was quite taken aback: "A chef?"

Xu Tong nodded: "Yeah! Don't you think a chef is the most cost-effective choice at the moment?

"If you want to earn more visa time, the main strategy is to increase sources and reduce expenditures.

"It's uncertain how much visa time one can gain in the Walkway, but saving a little bit daily can add up to a substantial amount."

"In the community, although the ready meals taste great, they are too expensive compared to the cost of raw materials. A regular egg fried rice costs 30 bucks, and a rice dish even costs 45.

"Whereas the raw materials for these might cost just 10 bucks.

"Even with a daily meal allowance of 80 minutes, it's still quite tight."

Fu Chen pondered: "But... can't Aunt Su do this work too?"

Xu Tong said awkwardly: "Can I say quietly that Aunt Su's cooking isn't very good... not to say it's awful, but it's definitely just passable.

"I'm probably not the only one who thinks so, right?"

The silence of the crowd said it all.

Fortunately, Su Xiuqin wasn't there, or the situation would have been even more awkward.

Xu Tong continued: "So, having a skilled chef join could significantly reduce expenses on food.

"We could then decide to lower the daily mandatory food expenses, or we could enjoy really sumptuous meals with the same amount of visa time."

Fu Chen nodded slightly and took notes.

"Hmm, I must say, this suggestion does make sense. I'll write it down. Are there any other suggestions?"

Cai Zhiyuan stated firmly: "I believe the community recruitment presently has only one option: a young male doctor."

Fu Chen was a little surprised: "Is it that specific?"

Wang Yongxin coughed twice and said with a still somewhat hoarse voice: "I agree, we must have a doctor.

"It's not to say Officer Cao's bandaging technique is bad, but Officer Cao only knows basic first aid, not systematic medical knowledge.

"This time, we only suffered minor injuries, not too severe, but what if something worse happens next time?

"We must have a more professional doctor."

Jiang He thought of a new question: "A doctor is indeed necessary, but can a clever wife make bricks without straw?

"Currently, the medical supplies the community sells only include a medical kit and some basic medical instruments. There's nothing like a surgical table or more advanced medical tools.

"Even if we have a doctor, if they're only able to use these instruments for treatment, wouldn't it be similar to Officer Cao's first aid skills?"

Cai Zhiyuan shook his head: "You can't think that way.

"Haven't you noticed? The rules of the Walkway aren't set in stone; they're constantly dynamically changing.

"For instance, we can propose motions to amend the underlying rules to some extent; when there's a decrease in community members, a new player is added.

"Who can guarantee that the product list in the vending machines won't change in the future?

"Moreover, this is an extraordinary world filled with supernatural power. Given Walkway's divine abilities, causing some supernatural phenomena in the future is not impossible.

"Under such circumstances, we must prepare for a rainy day.

"What if the vending machines update to include advanced medical equipment like a surgical table, but we don't have a corresponding doctor? What then?

"Are we supposed to eliminate a member to make room for a new one?"

These words carried a touch of black humor, and the crowd exchanged looks, indeed having no rebuttal.

Cai Zhiyuan continued: "As for the chef, while I acknowledge it as a method of increasing resources and reducing expenditures, its urgency can't compare to a doctor.

"Culinary skills aren't particularly difficult to master; there are cookbooks in the library. If one really wants to learn to cook, they can buy some raw materials and learn on their own."

No one spoke, clearly indicating that in the choice between a chef or a doctor, the importance of a doctor was much higher.

Xu Tong also nodded in agreement: "Yeah, that's true. Let's prioritize a doctor first."

Fu Chen pondered for a moment, somewhat puzzled: "Why does it have to be a young doctor?

"I think specifying an older or more experienced doctor would be better, wouldn't it?"
