Mushroom Lord in the Underground City

Chapter 127: Mist

Caspar's sudden shout caused the pirates who were just about to charge to suddenly stop, and everyone looked at him curiously.

Did the boss step on a nail?

After a brief howl, Caspar quickly fell silent.

"Boss?" Jialong, who was the closest, asked tentatively.

His future now entirely depended on Caspar; among everyone present, he cared more about Caspar than even the two pirate mates did.

Caspar's arm shook slightly, then he casually waved it, indicating that it was all right.

Jialong sighed in relief, but the two Gold Level mates, seeing that stiff wave, both took a step back and raised their weapons towards Caspar.

"What the hell is that?" The mate's shout carried a hint of horror.

"What's wrong?" Jialong was completely unable to react; why were the pirates on the Blood Shark suddenly in conflict?

If there was going to be conflict, shouldn't they deal with the people on the Wind Feather first?

Realizing that she couldn't fool the two pirate mates, Lin Jun was somewhat disappointed. She controlled Scout Puki to withdraw the mycelium tendrils from Caspar's body, and as she did so, she swiftly slashed Jialong's throat in front of her, who had a puzzled look on his face – she originally thought she could sneak attack another Gold Level.

Just like Gerhard didn't expect Jialong to attack, Jialong didn't expect to be attacked in front of Caspar, or rather, by the chair under Caspar.

Jialong clutched his throat with one hand while groping aimlessly at his waist with the other, wanting to take a potion from his waist pouch, believing that as long as he treated the cut on his throat in time... the scout added another slash to his wrist.

Ignoring the fat, black man waiting for death at her feet, Lin Jun focused her attention on the two terrified yet ready Gold Level pirates.

Truth be told, Lin Jun wasn't keen on getting involved; getting involved would expose her. Although she could make up a story later about it being Dylan's magic pet or something, there would still be flaws that couldn't withstand scrutiny.

If the pirates were just looting goods and money, leaving the people and ship behind, Lin Jun would have merely turned a blind eye.

Unexpectedly, this group was so greedy as to intend to capture everyone as slaves?!

This seemed to break the rules over here, though she wasn't sure what exactly went on in the Archipelago.

Lin Jun certainly couldn't let Dylan take a detour to experience a life of slavery and could only intervene in this mess.

Originally, she planned to attack when the pirates fought with the Wind Feather, and the captain's attention was attracted, but surprisingly, these cannon-fodder companions got bogged down without even starting a fight...

Useless!

Now the scout was facing two Gold Levels alone, and there might be a Wind Mage on the Blood Shark, so they needed to strike quickly before the other side responded.

But it was essential to remember there were over thirty pirates on the other side, ranging from Bronze to Silver Level, which was a hassle despite their low levels.

The only reliable ally here was Dylan, who, with two pieces of skill equipment, could probably match half a Gold Level.

As for those sailors and passengers?

Their looks towards Scout Puki weren't much better than the pirates', filled with terror.

After all, Scout Puki currently appeared as a murderous chair...

Caspar, once having everything under control, was now lying on the deck with blood nearly drained from his lower body wounds. Who wouldn't be shocked at such a sight?

There was no choice but to brace herself, hoping fear would intimidate the ordinary pirates.

Puff—

As Puki took a step forward, everyone except the two pirate mates stepped back, and even the sailors in the distance were not exceptions.

Dylan raised his longsword, ready to coordinate with Scout Puki immediately.

However, just as Lin Jun was about to launch her attack, she abruptly halted.

[Magic Perception] suddenly became ineffective?

Without the Fungal Network providing vision, Lin Jun equipped Scout Puki with various perception skills: light, airflow, sound waves, and magic.

In battle mode, they all activated simultaneously, and Lin Jun could handle it.

But now, the magic perception view suddenly blurred, or rather, it was obscured by magic that suddenly appeared around the Wind Feather... it felt like... mist!

No way!

It really was fog!

In [Light Perception], visibility had unknowingly dropped significantly, with even the three moons in the sky nearly swallowed, though it wasn't as obvious as the surrounding magic changes, causing Lin Jun to overlook it momentarily.

And the fog was still getting thicker.

This wasn't ordinary fog, at least, normal fog couldn't be packed with such dense magic.

In the minute Scout Puki halted, the moonlight quickly faded to just a sliver of light, and finally, others noticed the sudden thick fog.

"Is it the mist?"

Someone asked, but this word soon provoked panic among the crowd, be it sailors or pirates.

"The mist? Doesn't that mean we're doomed?" A pirate staggered into a barrel beside him, the fear in his pupils even more intense than when witnessing Caspar's death.

"How can that be? We're so far from the boundary!"

"Isn't this chair that killed the boss a mist creature?"

"Damn it, who cares, just start the ship and leave already!"

"What about the people on this ship?"

"With Caspar dead, who cares about them!"

There was obvious chaos among the pirates, with the two mates exchanging glances and showing an intention to retreat.

The moons were completely covered by the thick fog, plunging the ship into darkness.

Suddenly, a light emerged in the darkness; it was Gerhard, who had caught his breath, lighting up the lighting crystal in his hand.

"This is moving mist; it's probably too late to run now."

"Nonsense, what do you know?" A disbelieving pirate retorted.

Gerhard suddenly shouted loudly:

"Twenty years ago, the Golden Griffin, I encountered it west of Giant Horn Island!

82 people on the ship, only 3 survived!

We are all in danger now, acting individually will lead to the same end as back then.

No matter if you're a pirate, my crew, or a passenger, listen to me!

Otherwise, none of us will survive.

If you don't believe me, come and kill me now; at least it would be quicker to be slain than to die another way!"

Gerhard's last words were directed at the pirates.

The pirates were momentarily stunned, but facing someone who was their enemy until moments ago, no one dared to rashly comply.

Until an old pirate remarked: "Golden Griffin... I think I've heard of it, it indeed sank in the mist, though I heard it was after crossing the boundary..."

"That's a rumor!" Gerhard stated again, "The Golden Griffin's captain and mates were key figures in the Archipelago back then, how could they not distinguish the boundary? It was the moving mist, just like today, an unavoidable mist, that ensnared the ship!"

For a moment, even Dylan and Lin Jun almost believed Gerhard's words.

The chief pirate mate gritted his teeth, "Fine! We'll follow your lead for now, what do you suggest? I warn you, no tricks, if we get through this safely, we'll leave you be, but if you try anything, I'll kill you on the spot!"

"As you wish!" Gerhard stood up, supporting himself on the wall.

"What about that thing?" The second pirate mate pointed at Scout Puki and asked.

This stumped Gerhard, he really didn't know what this murderous chair was; it was entirely different from the enemies he pictured in the mist.

In the brief silence, Dylan stepped forward, scratching his head.

"Um... that's my magic pet..."
