F-ranker Sword Saint: My Soulbound Sword is Secretly SSS-tier!

Chapter 43: Went Out Swinging

In front of him and fighting against Havoc the Honey Badger was a party of ten bladeborns: An S-ranker, three A-rankers, and six B-rankers.

It seemed that more and more novices were arriving at the Sunblade Savannah, though he certainly didn't expect to see both Sylphina and False Witness here.

They were a part of the party that was hunting Havoc.

Only, they didn't look as airy as they usually did, both bleeding quite heavily.

False Witness and the other B-rankers appeared to be out of the battle and were recovering on the side, waiting for the [Bleeding] status to disappear before joining the hunt again.

On the other hand, the S-ranker and the three A-rankers were ferociously fighting for not only their lives but for the success of their Field Boss Hunt.

Their families have coordinated and spent a lot, hiring people who would return to the savannah and look for the appropriate field boss for them to hunt ahead of time.

Fast forward to a week later, and they were now ready.

Unfortunately, the operation wasn't going too well, as the damned midget of a honey badger proved outright nightmarish to fight.

It was the toughest, nastiest, and most ferocious bastard they've encountered to date.

One of the B-rankers even got his balls cut off.

Had the guy been on his last life, the sheer amount of pain he would be feeling would've been enough to traumatize him and prevent him from rejoining the battle.

Havoc was bleeding rather heavily, like everyone in the party.

However, the field boss still fought as ferociously as it did from the beginning, as though fear and danger didn't exist in its vocabulary.

The high-ranker novices, on the other hand, felt anxious.

Their hitpoints are now dangerously low.

They've also already used the lesser health potions given to them by the couriers, and they had no more lifelines left.

But if they retreated, the damned boss's HP would reset. They did not have the resources for another attempt.

The party either had to fight to the death or give up the juicy potential rewards.

With the pressure and expectations from their families, how could they choose the latter option?

"Sylphina, Solbrand, Aureus! I will keep it aggroed on me as much as I can. Don't cower and strike it with everything you've got, but be alert for its potential counterattacks!" roared the balding S-ranker, Alopecion, who looked a little too mature, despite being only eighteen years old.

Only the gods and goddesses knew what kind of abominable pressure his family was putting on him for his hairline to be receding this early.

Nonetheless, it seemed he was the official leader of the novice party, seeing that even the usually snobby Sylphina responded without a hint of arrogance.

The operation resumed in the next moment as Alopecion charged at the panting Field Boss, activating his S-Tier innate sword skill, Glorious Recession, that sent a crawling wave of broken swords converging at Havoc's location.

The boss dodged the skill by jumping, but the S-ranker was already prepared, striking from beneath.

He was able to secure Havoc's aggro like this.

Meanwhile, the A-rankers moved, half-circling the field boss and attacking from the sides and the back.

The field boss viciously fought back, willingly taking some of the hits to land a solid counterattack that sent Alopecion flying.

To their horror, Havoc didn't chase after the S-ranker, instead turning to fight one of the A-rankers—Sylphina, who had been dealing a huge amount of piercing damage.

"Lynn!" exclaimed False Witness from the sides as he watched the snobby A-ranker get sent skidding backwards after barely managing to block the unexpected horizontal strike from the Field Boss, a red damage value floating above her head:

[- 65]

Havoc still dealt such a significant amount of damage, even though his attack was blocked.

Luckily for Sylphina, the other A-rankers were there to cover for her, not allowing the Field Boss to finish her off.

Solbrand and Aureus courageously fought Havoc from two opposing sides, bringing down the Badger Boss' hitpoints to a final three hundred.

But not long after, the hitpoints of the A-rankers were reduced to mere double-digits, like Sylphina's.

One half-decent hit and they would lose a life!

Fortunately, Alopecion recovered just in time to relieve them, lunging at Havoc and chopping down with his cracked greatsword.

The field boss had no choice but to turn around and defend, angling its steel katana horizontally to block the blow.

The physical attribute differences were huge enough for Havoc not to take damage from the heavy blow, despite the difference in the sizes of their weapons.

Still, this gave the other three a chance to whittle down the badger's hit points to a mere hundred and fifty, immediately retreating after landing a hit.

They could've dealt so much more, possibly even finished it off, had their nerves not gotten the best of them.

It was then that Havoc showcased a new sword skill it hadn't used in the past.

Even Daru, who had come across the field boss's duels against elite Lurker Leopards multiple times, was witnessing it for the first time.

It was a shame he wasn't ready.

Otherwise, he could've attempted to learn this one, too.

Havoc jumped and spun—faster and faster—until it became a tiny lethal whirlwind.

It then crashed down on Alopecion, sending him flying once more and bringing his hitpoints to almost zero.

Had the balding S-ranker not been skilled enough to block the attack, he would've lost a life right then and there.

But the badger boss wasn't done yet.

It ricocheted to the other rankers, sending all of them skidding backwards, and chipping away yet another significant amount of what remained of their hitpoints.

Almost all of them were now down to a single-digit value.

One more hit—clean or not—and they would pay with a life.

Thankfully, Havoc's sword skill had also ended, and it was now back to the center of their hunting formation.

But then, the badger boss suddenly began zigzagging in short steps.

Everyone knew what this was.

It was the terrifying sword skill that allowed only a fifty-percent chance of successful defense.

None of them was fast enough to directly run away from the skill's effective range, which was the best way to avoid taking damage from the skill.

The boss's unlucky target was Sylphina.

"N-No…" the snobbish maiden took a few steps back, fear gripping her heart as she watched Havoc perform the strange opening steps.

She didn't even have the will to defend herself and had already given up.

But then, to everyone's bewilderment, a red slash mark ripped through the air, perfectly passing through the badger boss's body and splitting it in two before Havoc could do so himself.

A glaring red damage value then floated up with an exclamation point:

[- 230!]

It was a lethal strike that left the boss dissipating into red cubic particles mid-rush, its intent mirage rushing straight for Sylphina and giving her one final scare before vanishing.

The snobbish lady collapsed on her knees shortly after the illusory katana passed through her neck, breathing heavily as everyone turned to look at the source of the red slash mark.
