The Miraculous Treasure Hunting System

Chapter 127. Retirement

"So, how was your harvest?" Asked Jason, beaming with joy, thoroughly enjoying his one-week vacation. He directed his question at Ed, who was standing in the crow's nest, admiring the beautiful sunset.

Ed did not answer immediately, lost in his own thoughts. After a moment, he returned to his senses and first checked his inventory.

[ Money: Silver Snake x 12, Gold Leaf x 7, Gold Sail x 87. ]

"It was plentiful," Ed replied with a smile, thinking of how Jenny had begged him not to leave. She had even suggested betraying her own husband, taking all his money, and running away. Sadly, he couldn't fulfill all her wishes. He was working for someone else now and couldn't just bring anyone aboard on a whim.

However, before their final farewell, he had granted one of her desires: to rob her husband. Having already gathered all the information about one of her husband's safes, Ed emptied it before he left, netting 48 Gold Sail.

Some of that money went to restocking his inventory with daily necessities, useful items, interesting books to kill time, and, most importantly, various kinds of snacks. He had literally spent over 10 Gold Sails on all those things. If not for his inventory, he wouldn't have been able to carry so much back to the ship, despite having a not-so-useful storage ring.

"What about you?" Ed asked Jason. For the sake of his own "harvest," Jason had gone to great lengths, taking a significant risk by entertaining two women simultaneously. Ed knew how difficult this is, he had spent his days with Kaila and his nights with Jenny. If not for Jenny's husband being a drunkard, he would have surely noticed something amiss, after all, they often shared the very bed he slept in, while he slumbered on the floor. It was a situation hard to miss.

"Ohoho, you wouldn't believe how much fun I had this entire week," Jason exclaimed. "I literally slept with four married women who were unsatisfied with their husbands for various reasons and more than willing to open their legs, and their pockets, for me."

"Just as you taught me, I learned about them first, used their weaknesses to make a good first impression, then, like a good friend, badmouthed their husbands exactly as they wanted to hear. I'd tell them about their husbands' affairs when they were drunk, offer a shoulder to cry on, and then... well, there's nothing more to say. We were rolling in the sheets the next moment."

"You know how funny and entertaining I am. They soon fell for me, and after bringing them happiness for a few days, I asked for money for an 'emergency.' Most of the time, I told them I had a sick mother to treat, and they were more than willing to lend a golden helping hand. After that, I made some lame excuse like my mother dying during treatment and that I had to go on a long journey to my home island to bury her. This way, I didn't break their hearts and slipped away easily after taking the money. Wasn't it a perfect plan?" Jason spoke proudly.

"Guess how much I earned?" He continued smugly.

"Ten Gold Sail?" Ed replied uncertainly. Jason's earnings depended on his acting and the backgrounds of those wealthy women; it was hard to say how much they were willing to give to a supposed lover they'd known for only a few days and warmed their beds with.

"Hahaha! Poor and narrow-minded! You can only think that far, but that's normal since you might not have even seen more than five Gold Sails in your life," Jason said, laughing like a rich brat who loved to show off his wealth.

"Look at this," He said, taking out a heavy money pouch full of coins. He shook it before Ed and slowly opened it, letting the golden glow nearly blind him.

"A full 32 Gold Sail! Have you ever seen so much wealth, you pauper? If you call me 'Dad,' maybe I'll give you some," Jason taunted, taking out a golden coin and waving it in front of Ed.

Damn it, am I just that good at teaching, or are all the noble ladies on Meister Island so rich? How did this idiot earn so much? Ed's eyes widened in disbelief that Jason, a novice just wandering around, could earn half as much as he did.

"Sigh, you leave me no other choice," Ed said, shaking his head, giving Jason a very bad feeling. Just as Jason feared, the next moment, Ed waved his hand, and a small pile of gold coins appeared at his feet out of thin air, their glow alone almost blinding.

"How can this be?!" Jason exclaimed in disbelief. "How can you earn so much?!"

"If you call me 'Dad,' then maybe I'll think about sharing my secret. Also, next time, before showing off, at least open your eyes and see who you're talking to, you bastard. I taught you everything, and you dare to show off in front of me? Don't you have any shame?" Ed scolded Jason angrily while putting away his money, fearing Jason might try to steal some.

"Ahhh! I won't lose next time, just you wait!" Jason screamed, unable to handle his defeat, and quickly climbed down from the crow's nest.

"Hmph. Kids these days. Who do you think you're messing with? You're still too young to make me call you 'Dad,'" Ed scoffed, spitting annoyingly into the sea before shaking his head and watching as the sun grew smaller and smaller.

...

"An opening!"

Elena shouted, her fist striking Ed with a slow, deliberate motion.

Ed was sent flying backward by the punch, crashing onto a nearby mat. He lay sprawled on the ground, unable to get up.

Seeing Ed's condition, Elena smiled and walked over, pulling him up. "Don't be discouraged; you're learning very quickly."

Hearing this, Ed could only shrug helplessly.

After his short vacation, he returned to his daily routine; his cheap captain was still conducting business on Meister Island. Therefore, the crew was resting and training on a nearby island. At this moment, Ed was undergoing close-combat training with Elena.

In terms of close combat, Ed's skills were completely inadequate compared to Elena's. Even though Elena had slowed each attack to a level Ed could clearly see, it was still a brutal slaughter. However, compared to being sent flying with a single punch at the beginning, Ed was much better now, at least able to exchange a dozen or so blows with Elena.

Lucilia, whom only Ed could see, watched with a grin. If not for the fact that she couldn't eat, she would definitely be holding snacks in her hands.

"You've been training all morning. Take a break," Elena said, tossing him a silver hair ornament.

Ed extended his empty hand, casually opening it. Two clean towels appeared in his palm.

"Thank you," Elena smiled, taking the towels. "Pocket rings are so convenient! I'm going to get one custom-made after I get my share this time," She said, her gaze fixed on the ring on Ed's finger.

Hearing her words, Ed first didn't understand what she was talking about, but then he remembered that others think he is using his pocket ring to store things, instead of his inventory, so he just smiled without saying anything.

He had already linked his magic to the pocket ring on his finger. Inside the ring was a 1x1x2 meter space. With just a slight input of magic, he could retrieve or store items. Although this is a very convenient item, but not as useful and safe as his inventory.

"How much is this kind of ring usually worth?" Ed couldn't help but ask curiously.

Elena thought for a moment and said, "Old Bobby said it depends on the size of the ring's space; the larger the space, the higher the price. A convenient thing like a pocket ring requires a master craftsman to make. One with a space like yours would cost at least 80 Gold Sail."

Hearing this, Ed couldn't help but touch the ring on his finger, "80 Gold Sail? That expensive? Am I carrying a small fortune on my finger?"

Elena smiled at Ed's expression. "Got it? You absolutely must not tell anyone the exact capacity of your ring in the future, otherwise many people will want to rob you," Saying this, she turned and walked towards the edge of the island.

The ship was anchored offshore; after all, this was just a deserted island. They had just arrived when they saw Andre on the ship. It seemed he had already returned.

Andre appeared to be waiting for the two, and upon seeing their arrival, he immediately waved them over. They jumped onto the ship and followed Andre directly into the captain's cabin.

The others were already there. On the large table in the center of the cabin, a pile of glittering gold objects was neatly arranged, Gold Sail coins. A single Gold Sail, about the size of a palm, was piled so high it made one's eyes light up.

"The governor of Meister Island has been replaced, and soon their family may also cease to exist."

Hearing this, everyone smiled.

Then Andre walked over and tapped the pile of Gold Sails on the table. "There are 625 Gold Sails here, obtained from the sale of the locations of two treasure troves and the treasures inside."

"625!?"

Everyone was shocked by this number. They had expected a large haul, after all, they had spent nearly two years gathering them. But they hadn't expected it to be this substantial.

Seeing everyone's astonishment, even Andre couldn't help but smile broadly. "That scandal was valuable, hahaha. Alright, let's start the distribution now."

"25 will be added to the team's treasury for daily operating funds," This included ammunition, food, and ship repairs and maintenance.

"Of the remaining 600 coins, Ed will receive 100 directly. Any objections?"

Everyone shook their heads at Andre's allocation. After all, Ed's contribution was obvious. Even though he had already obtained a piece of magical equipment, he still deserved extra funds.

"Since the magical equipment has already been allocated, the rest will be divided equally." Those who had made extra contributions had already had them offset by the magical gear they received.

Ed hefted the bag of gold coins in his hand. The weight of 100 gold coins was several tens of kilograms. This was all gold! Such a huge amount of wealth gave Ed a very refreshing feeling. He could retire on the spot and live a life of luxury for the rest of his life with his wife and girlfriends, after all, nearly 200 hundred gold sail are enough to make a person called milioner from his previous life standard.

Everyone present was beaming with joy. It wasn't just Ed; this was an extremely huge fortune for them all.

"Is anyone planning to retire?" Andre turned to look at everyone and asked.

Hearing this, Ed looked up confusedly, although he was thinking about retiring but that was just a joke, he wasn't fool enough to retire so early, his journy have just started.

At this moment, Old Bobby slightly raised his hand. "My old bones are failing me; it's time to disembark and rest."

Andre nodded at him, seemingly having expected it, and showed no surprise whatsoever.

"Now, everyone rest. Prepare to set sail for the Cathedral."

Hearing Andre's words, everyone left the captain's cabin.

As soon as they came out, Jason walked over and put his hand on Old Bobby's shoulder. "So, Old Bobby, it's finally time for you to go."

"Yes, this is a perfect opportunity, isn't it?"

"That's right. Have you decided where to settle down?"

"I'm a follower of the Virgin Mary ( Stone Mother ), and now that I have money, of course, I'll settle down near the Cathedral."

Elena stood next to Ed and said, "Old Bobby is already 60 years old. This fortune is enough for him to live out his days perfectly. It's indeed time for him to disembark."

Hearing this, Ed nodded with some understanding.

Yes. Weren't they all treasure hunters here for the treasure and the fortune? Now that someone had achieved their expected goals, and considering the other party's health, retirement was inevitable. They couldn't just drift at sea until they died. Sixty was indeed retirement age, even in his previous peaceful, technological-advancement world, let alone for someone engaged in such perilous maritime activities in this dangerous world.
