The Miraculous Treasure Hunting System

Chapter 98. Interval

After reaching the open deck, Ed quickly returned to his cabin.

"Why do you cling to me?" Ed asked gently upon entering the room and closing the door, not wanting to discourage her from taking further advantage of him in this way.

Lucilia, now a wisp of smoke, sat back down on the edge of the bed. Hearing Ed's question, she pointed to her legs.

Ed looked at her pair of slender, porcelain-like legs extended from under her dress, dangling beside the bed. Her jade-like toes, adorned with emerald green nail polish, added to her beauty.

He gulped, trying his best to suppress the beastly urge to push her onto the bed, knowing she could easily get away. He replied slowly, "They're beautiful... no... I mean, what does that have to do with you clinging to my back?"

"My legs have a congenital problem; I can't walk, so of course I have to cling to your back."

Hearing this, Ed noticed that Lucilia seemed to always be sitting, either on the bed, at the table, or on top of him. She was never seen standing.

However, Ed opened his mouth and asked a mind-blowing question she could never have imagined: "But... you're just a soul now, aren't you? A congenital problem is a physical issue, right? Could the soul be affected? And you couldn't possibly be sitting on the edge of the bed, could you? Normally you'd fall through it."

Hearing this, Lucilia sighed and stood up abruptly. She immediately slumped down.

Ed reacted instinctively, rushing forward to catch her, 'accidentally' pressing his arm tightly against her breasts and hugging her from behind before she collapsed.

Her soft, soulful body lay in Ed's arms; he felt no weight, only the touch of her form. An immediate, rigid response from his groin pressed against her full buttocks, but thankfully, Lucilia, an innocent soul too naive to recognize his beastly desire, thanked him softly before floating out of his arms to sit on thin air.

"Congenital physical problems are reflected in the soul. Even defects acquired later will, over time, manifest spiritually. The soul and body are one."

Hearing this, Ed nodded, though he had doubts. He was, after all, using another's body; his original one had died long ago in another world. Perhaps there is another reason she doesn't know, he thought.

Lucilia once again transformed into smoke and appeared on Ed's back, her arms wrapped around his neck, her head on his left shoulder, cheek rubbing against his.

"You're the only one I can touch. Hanging on to you is much less strenuous. Moving through the air is tiring for a soul, flight isn't an innate ghostly ability but a forced use of soul power. Souls can't touch anything, and if they don't float, they might sink through the ground, unable to return. You could say floating is instinctual."

This explanation made perfect sense. Ed could only nod, content to be a mobile wheelchair, while his hand moved backward as if to hold her, though in truth he was just caressing her buttock.

Wait, he thought. No wonder she hardly reacts when I touch her there. Could her physical problem mean she simply doesn't feel it?

"By the way, how severe is your condition? Can you tell where my hand is right now?" Although he had a general idea, he asked to confirm his guess and plan his next moves.

Lucilia sighed. "It's very bad. I can't feel your hand right now." To give him a proper idea, she didn't turn back and replied helplessly, telling him to continue his experiment.

"What about now?" Ed asked again, this time moving his hand around her tailbone.

"Yes, that place is normal. Actually, below my tailbone, especially the backside, is mostly useless, I can't feel it. The front is better. Although I can't move my legs, I can feel everything on the front," When Ed touched her thigh, she nodded to indicate she could feel it.

Doesn't this mean I can play with her buttocks as much as I want? Even her... Wait...

"Since your backside is useless, how did you go to the toilet when you were alive?" Ed felt no shame in asking such a direct question, nor did Lucilia, who was just as frank and replied with scholarly seriousness, as if discussing a mundane fact.

"Although I can't feel it, that doesn't mean it was useless. It functioned perfectly fine when I was alive, and I had more than enough maids to assist with such things. As for my vagina, it is completely normal."

If Ed hadn't already confirmed that Lucilia was naive about sex in life and was a straightforward girl who answered questions like an academic citing a textbook, he might have wondered if she was teasing him.

Elves are really open-minded, Ed thought, gaining a new understanding of the long-eared race. He hadn't expected her to answer his perverse question so plainly. But this was good for him; now he could play with her backside as he liked without worrying about her anger or needing permission, he would just have to ensure she didn't turn her head or notice his hand movements.

While scheming how to explain himself if caught, his hand had already begun squeezing her bubbly buttocks. He hadn't touched a woman in an entire month, and now one was hanging on his back, how could he stay honest?

"Can I hang on to you outside?" she asked innocently, thinking Ed's many questions meant he didn't want her clinging to him.

"Yes, of course. I am always ready to help you," Ed replied with a bright smile.

"Thank you," Lucilia said, moved by his sweet words.

She took out a necklace from her pocket, its pendant featuring a cutout border. She fitted the magic mirror into the cutout and hung the necklace around her neck.

Turning to look at Lucilia sitting beside the bed, Ed asked, "Do you know the incantation? You easily recognized the [Sound Bird]?" He thought he should bond more with his second cheat, as Lucilia was obviously no ordinary elven girl.

"The incantation's style has changed quite a bit compared to what I know; it's much simpler. If it weren't for that feather, I wouldn't have realized they were the same spell."

Hearing this, Ed began to think. She recognized the incantation, but from a more complex style. Could Lucilia be from a very ancient era? After all, modern simplified spells were refined over generations by ancient ancestors. Lucilia's situation fit this perfectly. However, if even the terrain had changed beyond recognition, how ancient was she?

Ed found no modern materials to corroborate this, and Lucilia found nothing familiar for comparison. They had no choice but to set the matter aside for now.

Sitting down at the table, they opened the books Bobby had given them. Inside were introductions, analyses, and applications of spells, all with unclear annotations. The book's notes indicated which spell materials were readily available and which were nearly extinct. The author lived hundreds of years ago, and the information was largely outdated.

Lucilia sat beside him, looking at the book in Ed's hands. "So many materials are extinct?" she asked with disbelief before sighing helplessly. She could sense from this gap that her own era was incredibly distant.

"Did you also learn spells this way in your time?"

Hearing Ed's question, she nodded. "Yes, the method wasn't much different. The technique I just taught you is actually a family secret."

"So you were a Toucher in your previous life?"

"No."

"No?" Ed was slightly surprised. He had assumed Lucilia was also a Toucher, storing a soul seemed beyond an ordinary person, and she was an elf with extraordinary magical talent who had lived for centuries.

"People born with physical disabilities lack the physical capacity to touch those treasures."

Hearing this, Ed obediently shut his mouth and refocused on the book, though he found the theory hard to believe. There were too many examples of disabled individuals wielding extraordinary power. Magic comes from the soul, he thought. What does the body have to do with it?

The book contained numerous spells. Some had templates and learning materials; others only had names. Ed discovered that many spells with similar functions were completely different.

For example, [Fountain] and [Spring]. Judging by their names, they were simple spells, collectively called life spells: magic that facilitated daily life but offered few additional benefits, sometimes even seeming a waste of mana.

Both sprayed water, but one produced a jet while the other a gentle flow. Countless similar spells filled the book, all very easy to learn with no risk of failure.

"These simple, easy-to-learn spells may actually originate from a single, very powerful spell. Everyone's approach to improvement differs, which is why they appear so similar," Lucilia explained considerately, knowing Ed was new to the extraordinary world.

Ed nodded, he already knew this, and continued flipping through the pages. He saw the three spells Jack had written. All were relatively powerful, but comparing them to the book's descriptions revealed obvious differences. Jack's versions were significantly stronger in both execution and effect.

Moreover, the learning materials for [Cross of Righteous Fire] and [Silver Blade] were extinct. There wasn't even a specific pattern; the materials Jack provided were completely different from those in the book.

"If the materials are extinct, can't we learn them?"

Hearing Ed's question, Lucilia shook her head. "Not necessarily. You can seek help from someone who knows them, or find alternative materials. Many spells are interconnected, but that requires luck."

I see, Ed thought. So, does Jack possess the other materials for both spells? Perhaps many forces and individuals on the high seas possess materials known only to a select few. Monopoly is the norm. Sharing is the exception.
