Leviathan Quay, Compton District, Upper Street 09.
KABOOM!
The sky rained fire, metallic debris, blood, and mutilated body parts!
It was a normal Thursday afternoon.
One moment, everywhere was calm and peaceful, people busy with their day. And the next moment, the afternoon turned into a bloody horror spectacle.
There are different types of air transports that roam around Leviathan Quay's airspace. Apart from the specialized armored aircrafts belonging to the army, the city police use Aerodynes for patrols, a type of semi-circular shaped double-seater choppers with only two seats for two police officers.
For civilian public transport though, there are 2: Aerozeps- massive, slow-moving luxurious passenger airships designed to look like Blimps.
And Airbuses- massive double-decked aerial buses that can carry up to 100 passengers at a time. Airbuses are propelled by 8 powerful rotor blades, 4 at the top 4-corners of the double-decked air bus and 4 at the bottom corners.
One common factor about all transports in Leviathan Quay is that they're all mostly designed in brown colors.
In the morning during the rush hour in Leviathan Quay and in the evenings, the air-lanes in the sky are always crowded with dozens upon dozens of air transports ferrying civilians to work.
There are specialized air-lanes that are only accessible to the military, but most of the air-lanes are free-for-all for civilian transports.
In the afternoon, the traffic in the air-lanes is always lesser but in Compton District alone, there were still more than a few dozen air transports occasionally moving through the sky.
From above the street where Leon stayed, he could easily see multiple air transports in the sky whenever he looked up from the Upper Street.
And today, he saw an airbus explode!
This was not a bus carrying 10 or 15 passengers, this was a double-decked aerial air bus carrying at least 70 passengers up to 100 passengers!
And yet, the airbus just exploded.
Just like that, 100 civilians lost their lives.
"…!" Leon stared at the sky in a daze.
'Was that a terrorist attack?' He thought, still dazed and struggling to process what he just witnessed.
But then, instinct kicked in as he quickly recovered.
He quickly traced the trajectory of the projectile that caused the air transport to explode in the sky and then he saw another air transport that looked strange. Unlike the brown public air transports in the sky, this one was pitch-black.
It was not an Aerozep and it was not an airbus either, this was a strange air transport that looked like a tiny version of a maglev train.
It was tiny but built in a sleek aerodynamic form like a train. Underneath it glowed with the unmistakable bluish presence of an electromagnetic field, keeping this transport in a state of anti-gravity and helping it stay afloat in the sky.
At the moment, both sides of the train-like air transport already opened, revealing doors and on both sides there were soldiers in a familiar black paramilitary armor with black insectile full-face masks.
'The Terrorists!' Leon's eyes dilated.
The black insectile full-face masks were as emotionless as always.
One of the soldiers on the right side of this air transport knelt down on one leg, holding an anti-tank grenade launcher on his shoulder and pointing it in the direction of the just exploded public air transport.
He was the one shot the transport!
Staring at the terrorist with the emotionless full-face mask on, in that moment, a switch suddenly flipped in Leon's head.
In that moment, he experienced wrath in its purest form.
Back in the maglev train when he first learned of the Extremist Movement, his reaction was subtle.
To him, it didn't really concern him, what mattered was his goals and his ambition for going to Leviathan Quay.
To him, it wasn't strange that this world had terrorists and criminals, he would only react if the terrorists crossed paths with him and affected him.
And now, for the second time, they just did.
Leon literally just watched 100 civilians turned into bloody goo right in front of him! The hot blood and mutilated body parts still rained from the sky.
This crossed the line of his morality and any form of code he had in his mind. This was not a fight, this was not a battle, this was not the Holy War that they paint it to be, what he was witnessing at this moment was a massacre!
A massacre targeting unarmed civilians, innocent or not innocent, but civilians still.
This was a scenario of the strong picking on the weak, not justice, not a divine mandate, and definitely not a goddamn Holy War.
At this moment, Leon lost it completely as his black eyes glazed over in rage as he glared at the train-like air transport, and then…
KABOOM!
On the other side, another terrorist also equipped with a grenade launcher pulled the trigger without hesitation and no remorse, shooting another public air transport from the sky!
Another shot, another massacre.
And just like that, another potentially 100 lives gone!
Then, the terrorists holding machine guns finally opened fire.
Tutututututu…!
The terrorists didn't just shoot at the sky, they also shot towards the ground, clearly adamant on causing as much casualties and chaos as possible.
Their plan was effective.
"Arghhh…!" The civilians immediately started screaming in horror, running around to safety like sheep without a shepherd.
The streets instantly turned into a painting of chaos.
In the sky, the train-like terrorist air transport moved, targeting the other public air transports and a sky panic frenzy started even as the public transport pilots tried to veer off the established air-lanes and escape to safety.
And then, something else happened.
BZZZ!
A massive holographic projection came to life in mid-air showing the train-like transport in the sky and the massacre that was currently going on.
Blood-red words in bold font appeared one after the other on the holo-projection as the massacre continued.
["THIS IS THE RETRIBUTION OF THE DIVINE BLUEPRINT!"]
["CITY OF SINNERS, IT'S TIME."]
["REPENT OR DIE!"]
["RETURN TO THE DIVINE BLUEPRINT OR DIE!"]
This holo-projection didn't just appear in this Upper Street, this was a broadcast that appeared in every street in Compton District, in every district in Leviathan Quay.
It was a city-wide broadcast.
Seeing this massive holographic projection, the first thought that came to Leon's mind was how similar it looked to the video he watched a day ago where the terrorists brutally murdered unarmed mercenaries.
Since awakening in this world, Leon had experienced a lot of things.
He'd fought against Ascended of 3 of the 5 Classes of this world, he'd survived a siege of rabid Neon Beasts, he'd taken down a powerful gang engaged in slave trade and sex trafficking, but he was yet to encounter a cold-blooded massacre.
Parasite didn't wantonly slaughter people, he kidnapped and trafficked for business, he did it for money and power.
But these people… these people, they did it for some f*cking religion!
To Leon, that was the most messed-up shit ever and in this moment, experiencing it live, he felt raw rage cloud his mind.
Feeling the helplessness and terror of the civilians, he felt anger, he felt wrath, he felt like he was going crazy, and then, he exploded.
BOOM!
His grayish white ADE exploded from his body, violently swirling around his body as his black eyes narrowed into slits like a dangerous predatory hungry for flesh and blood.
The blood vessels in his eyes ruptured from his heightened emotions and stress, giving his black eyes a shade of dangerous red.
His eyes screamed murder.
His eyes darted left and right, his brain already speeding on overdrive as he sought a way to quickly get to the terrorists and then instantly, he mapped the surrounding terrain within milliseconds.
His eyes paused on the biggest building in this Upper Street, a hotel that was 8 stories tall, and instantly, he moved.
He charged like a Lion on the hunt.
Leon charged at full speed towards the hotel, evading the panicking civilians around him, and then he pounced on the hotel, punching a hole into the concrete wall with his bare hands as he relied on his sheer superhuman strength to hold on to the wall.
With this, he clung to the wall like a spider.
He raised his head, calculated the distance to the top and then he quickly started climbing up one step at a time, digging his hand on the wall and rapidly scaling the 8-meter story building!
The local police was going to intervene eventually, maybe even the army but by then Leon was afraid that this massacre would have already caused casualties rising up to the tone of thousands.
There were reasons why Ascended that are unaffiliated to the military are reluctant to reveal their powers in major cities.
Afterall, an investigation was surely going to follow next to understand your intentions and if you'd pose a threat to the city.
But at this moment, no other thought was in Leon's mind.
All he felt was rage and anger and the sheer desire to salvage this situation and obliterate the mad terrorists.
Within less than a minute, he climbed the 8-story building to its highest peak and then he jumped off, his powerful legs kicking the building forcefully enough to propel him into the sky.
The force still wasn't enough for Leon to close the distance to the train-like air transport, but this distance was just perfect enough for him to get a good shot.
Through an opening on his black leather backpack, Leon dipped his right hand in the bag and brought out what seemed like a children's toy gun.
His grayish white ADE flared again.
Miniaturization!
Instantly, the toy gun bulged and elongated, turning into a sleek-looking Rifle with a scope, the QX-07 Air Gun Rifle.
He fixed his eye on the scope and aimed, then he pulled the trigger.
Enhance!
BAM!
Leon poured in so much of his ADE to enhance that single shot that the air in front of him vibrated as extremely high-density compressed air was shot at the airborne train-like transport like a projectile.
The air transport saw the danger, the transport beeped warning sounds to its crew, they tried to veer off target but the projectile was too fast.
Before they could react, it hit.
BOOM!
At the last moment, the air transport's shield generator came on but it was obliterated in a single attack!
Still in the sky, just as the force of gravity started acting on his body, Leon took aim with the Rifle again, but then the terrorists retaliated.
Tututututututu!
They aimed and shot at him.
Leon was wearing no armor and he didn't have the tenacity of a Gene Augur. If he was shot, he would be injured.
Stuck in mid-air, he was a sitting duck, a literal practice target to the terrorists.
Despite this, Leon didn't panic, instead he heaved a sigh of relief because finally with the terrorists focusing on him, the massacre finally stopped.
His brain whirred as his eyes gleamed with murderous intensity.
"All right, bring it on!"
Drone Control Matrix!
BZZZ!
His grayish white ADE flared as a second gadget surged out of his leather backpack by itself, a sword-shaped drone.
This time, Leon didn't use the sword-shaped drone to attack.
Instead, the drone hovered just beneath his leg and just as gravity began pulling him down and as kinetic bullets shot towards him, about to puncture holes through his body, he gently stepped on top the drone.
Enhance!
His grayish-white ADE flowed, engulfing the sword-shaped drone and as the whole city watched through the holo-projection, Leon defied the laws of physics and dodged the bullets in mid-air!
Whoosh!
Under his control, the sword-shaped drone burned fuel and whirled at a rapid speed like a whirlwind, carrying him along to dodge the bullets.
The sudden speed change made Leon lose his balance in the sky, almost falling off the sword-shaped drone but he managed to regain his balance on time.
And then, with murderous eyes filled with hate and malice, he glared at his target and accelerated.
Leon surfed the sky on a sword-shaped drone towards the terrorist transport!
