Gary and Mary arrived in style, and immediately, the mob exploded.
The noise rose to a crescendo.
The couple were extremely popular in Community G, their arrival ignited the mob as rumors of the couple's superhuman powers already spread long ago.
They were both garbed in a brown leather attire suited for combat.
Gary had two battle Axe strapped to his belt on both sides, showing his intent for coming here. He also strapped a brown leather bag across his shoulder.
As for his wife, Mary wore a pair of grayish black mechanical gloves and both her hands held a short dagger each.
Unlike her husband's plain leather attire though, hers had multiple slots and straps across her legs and abdomen where multiple other short daggers were strapped in plain sight.
There was also a bulge on the right side of her hip holding a pistol.
"Gary!" "Mary!" "Gary!" "Mary!"
The mob cheered.
As for the thugs who were behind the wooden walls of the water factory, the energy switched instantly as they could not help but tremble in uncertainty.
So far, these thugs were having the worst two days of their entirely lives.
From yesterday to today, everything developed so fast. Working for the Zmer gang was supposed to be the height of achievement in the community.
They were supposed to get all privileges, they could do anything they wanted and get away with it, they could bully people, they could sleep with any woman without consequences, they were supposed to be able to do all these and more.
This was why they still couldn't wrap their heads around the fact that the people actually dared start a rebellion.
What gave them the guts?
They were still baffled and struggling in disbelief.
This was not the first time that the people tried to start an uprising, but every time, Parasite always smothered the threat before it gathered momentum.
Not this time though.
This time, it felt like the mob were on steroids. Before they could react, they somehow got access to guns and directly started a war.
Before they could react, these thugs saw their comrades being killed in cold blood. Before they could react, they saw the inns and bars where they lazed about all day being set ablaze by Molotov cocktails.
They saw their buddies being burned to death inside!
All of this already left their resolve shaken, and now with the famous couple also joining the mob, their resolve directly crumbled.
They feared for their lives.
But they couldn't retreat though, they were trapped in the water factory meaning they had to fight for their lives. Besides, it was not as if they held the key to the slaves that were being held in captivity so they could negotiate with the mob.
Most of them, especially the newly recruited thugs had never even met the leader of the Zmer gang once. Negotiating for peace was not an option.
They had no choice but to fight.
Gary did not pay attention to the thugs beyond the wall though, instead, the handsome curly brown-haired man looked at the people with injuries.
Despite suffering injuries of varying degrees, these men and women refused to stop. They refused to succumb to their pain. They still had fire burning in their eyes even as they bled, they were like monsters who didn't know pain.
Gary winced slightly at the sight and walked to the back of the mob.
"All those who are injured should come for treatment". He announced in a loud voice as he dropped his brown leather bag.
Inside it was his battlefield first-aid kit.
While he took the more passive and doctor's approach, his wife didn't follow his footprints. Mary took a much more aggressive approach as she directly went to the front of the mob army.
"Protect your head, shoot back, aim before you shoot, and don't stop running. After me!" She roared and then she erupted in a sprint.
Mary personally led the attack against the water factory!
BOOM!
With an Ascended Cyber Gladiator leading the charge, from a weak and disorganized mob, the mob instantly became a force to be reckoned with.
She moved like a hurricane.
Whoosh!
Immediately after the mob moved, the thugs opened fire.
The thugs didn't just wield pistols like the mob though. Some of them wielded Shotguns, Rifles, and automatic-fire machine guns.
BAM! BAM! BAM!
Mary didn't slow down as she ducked and threw her daggers like wind scythes while still running, targeting the thugs that were positioned in strategic locations in the roof of the water factory- the snipers.
Her aim was true and lethal as blood blossomed from different corners in the roof of the water factory.
The casualties were not just on the thug sides though.
With bullets and deadly projectiles flying like a hail, the people at the front of the mob suffered as bullets penetrated their bodies, projectiles mutilating Synth and Geneform bodies alike as they cried out in pain. But they didn't stop.
Those who didn't die immediately kept on moving, they kept on running forward, they didn't stop.
As Mary ran through the net of gunfire, she felt her blood pumping fast.
Ba-dump! Ba-dump!
It's been 5 years since she dropped her daggers but as she ran today, she felt that feeling back- the exhilaration of battle and putting your life on the line.
She smiled in a maniacal manner.
This was exactly what Gary feared, but his wife clearly didn't care as she led the line forward like a charging Bull.
She didn't just throw her daggers as ranged weapons, she led the line literally as she finally arrived in front of the metal gate of the water factory.
Mary didn't stop. She simply leaned low and straightened her spine, placing her right shoulder to face the metal gate and then she ran into it!
BAM!
Her sheer might, weight, and kinetic momentum enabled her to bulldoze her way through the metal gate of the water factory!
Wild violet-colored ADE revolved around her as she charged in through the metallic debris of the gate.
With wild battle-frenzied eyes, she looked around and quickly zeroed in on a target, then she moved in a blur.
With her mechanical gloves and twin daggers, she was a menace. She was too fast for the thugs to aim at comfortably, she moved like a ghost.
And soon enough, blood began flowing in the water factory like a river as Mary led the assault against the water factory.
"This is for Emilia you bastards!" She kicked a thug so hard he vomited his innards before stabbing her dagger into his skull.
The casualties on both sides were numerous but the others didn't even seem to notice it. From the beginning, they knew that an uprising was going to bring its fair share of death, afterall, Audrey already showed them an example.
The brave martyrdom of the reporter ignited the whole community, they charged and attacked with no fear for their lives.
None of them wanted to back down, they were determined to fight for their community, their land, and their loved ones.
…
6:20am.
While the uprising started and clashes raged in other parts of the community, and just as the battle of the water factory started, Talia met with another group of rebels a hundred meters away from a particular warehouse.
Two invisible drones silently hovered in the sky, watching everything and sending footage back to Ghostwire who monitored every detail from the base.
Inside the compound was a military-grade truck and two bikes.
Leon, Daren, Kain, Rex, and Brick were here too alongside Talia.
Talia was garbed in a black leather attire, the same for the others except Leon. Her black hair with blue streaks was tied in a neat bun behind her.
As for Leon, he was back in his cloak. In terms of defense, it was still better than any other regular cloak that this community had to offer by far.
Like expected, the inhabitants of the warehouse were expecting their arrival.
It was heavily fortified with more than 30 thugs of the Zmer gang. Every single one of them was armed to the teeth, and they were all hidden in strategic locations in the compound as they aimed their weapons at them in silent defiance.
Talia was not deterred though, neither were her companions. They were ready for war.
And then, a harrowing battle ignited under the morning haze.
BOOM!
Talia led the charge.
Leading the way forward, the female Geneform wielded a kinetic pistol on her right hand and her favored modified rail-pistol on her dominant left hand.
Bam… bam… bam…
Talia weaved and bobbed, slithering through the net of enemy gunshots as she retaliated with well-placed shots of her own.
She was not alone.
Unlike back at the water factory where Mary was the only Ascended, here, it was literally 6 Ascended leading the charge!
It was overkill.
With the superior perception and balance of Ascended over mundane humans, this battle was imbalanced from the start as the mob drowned the resistance of the thugs within just a few minutes.
With the warehouse not having a fence, it was even easier.
Daren had very little to do as all he had to do was shoot a few shots with his pistol at the enemies who were already overwhelmed by their numbers and the sheer imbalance in quality.
Within a few minutes, the resistance of the Zmer gang crumbled completely, leaving only blood, black Synth oil and corpses in their wake.
6:35am, the warehouse fell.
The only reason why it didn't fall faster was because Talia didn't want to start overusing her ADE this early into the uprising, and also because of the superior weapons that the thugs had access to.
Another factor was the plain truth that even to an E Rank NetRunner, due to their generally weak physique compared to other more physically imposing Classes, a single well-timed bullet shot could still kill an E Rank NetRunner.
Considering that most Ascended here were Mechanists and NetRunners, they had to be careful lest they died an avoidable death.
Talia led the rebels in, walking over the corpse of the enemies.
As they walked in, with no one telling them first, the mob immediately began picking the weapon of the fallen thugs as they equipped themselves with them.
Knowing exactly what to do, Daren already grabbed a wrench from one of the rebels as he walked towards the locked metal door of the warehouse.
As Daren held the wrench to the padlock of the door, almost all the spectators present held their breaths in anticipation as they waited.
He exerted force and the padlock directly shattered.
Bang!
After that, Daren kicked the metal door open.
As soon as the door opened, they looked expectantly into the warehouse but they didn't see what they were looking for.
Inside the warehouse was empty!
There were no slaves, nothing, just a row of specially constructed shelves at different areas of this warehouse where different raw materials and a few weapons and gadgets were kept.
A few Rifles, pistols, and machine guns were left behind, including a bunch of materials that were carefully kept inside glass containers.
"This is an armory!" Kain blurted out.
Talia nodded grimly. "Plan B". She said in a firm voice.
All of them, including the rebels that attacked this warehouse with them knew what Plan B meant. Talia didn't keep anything from the rebels.
Plan B is the second warehouse that was hidden outside the community.
Coming to this warehouse, they didn't know what to expect inside.
From how paranoid Talia suspected Parasite to be, she always knew that the chances of him stowing his slaves in the middle of the community were low, this was why she was not too disappointed.
Immediately, her attention shifted to the other warehouse.
Another reason why she made it a priority to attack this warehouse was because it had a military-grade truck, and two Karaki CT-3X.
They were the perfect transport to get to the second warehouse as fast as possible.
Plan B was taking the truck and Karaki CT-3Xs to get to the second warehouse at the fastest possible speed.
With everyone knowing their role and with the presence of an E Rank NetRunner, they easily broke down, hijacked and override the programming of the truck and bikes.
Talia, Leon, Rex, Kain, and 5 other rebels entered the truck, while Brick and Daren each took the two Karaki CT-3X bikes.
As for the other rebels, their role was to go reinforce the other rebels who were still fighting battles in other parts of the community.
With that, the convoy of a truck and two bikes rode off the compound.
Up ahead, a single C-5 drone made itself visible as it led the way to the second warehouse.
The truck religiously followed the drone.
DING!
