8:17am.
Alexander Cain died and Parasite took over.
When he took over, he immediately felt the pain of his neck being stabbed even as blood spurted like a fountain but Parasite acted fast.
Cell Repair!
The flesh in his new body's neck squirmed, the muscles sewing themselves back up as the injury started visibly healing.
Due to the unexpected and fierce resistance that was put up Alexander Cain in his last moments, Parasite didn't even have the time to adjust to his new body before his enemies descended on him.
He took longer than expected to kill the Cyber Gladiator.
And in those precious few seconds that Alexander Cain resisted, Talia and her allies rushed towards his new parasitism target.
And just as he opened his eyes, they resumed the cycle and overwhelmed him with attacks.
BAM! BAM! BAM!
Parasite didn't even get any break-time to catch his breath.
He started being rag-dolled again before he could even pick up the Spear to resist as this time, it was Brick who rushed in to quickly pick up the Spear before throwing it far away to make sure that Parasite stayed unarmed.
In the end, Parasite removed the dagger that was stabbed into his neck to fight but the dagger only lasted a minute before he was destroyed.
Once again, he was being unarmed.
And once again, he was overwhelmed by his enemies.
Despite the hopelessness of his current situation though, Parasite didn't give up and roll over for his enemies. He kept on fighting, he kept on punching with his fists, fighting till the bitter end.
Now, the scales of the battle became even more lopsided.
With Alexander Cain dead, Gary suddenly became free without any opponent to fight and without any hesitation, the Cyber Gladiator locked in and rushed to help his wife.
Now, it was Talia, Daren, Brick, and Ghostwire fighting Parasite in a 4v1 while Gary and Mary fought Swain in a 2v1 while Leon, Rex, and Kain fought Cell.
Cell was already riddled with wounds, bleeding from all his orifices but just like Parasite, he didn't give up as he kept on fighting the Mechanists.
Swain faced a similar situation, but his was even more dangerous since he was going up against two veteran Cyber Gladiators.
And in that moment as the battle intensity ramped up against the two Cyber Gladiators, Swain finally felt that his regeneration could no longer keep up with the damage that he was receiving.
For the first time, this Gene Augur was scared for his life.
He wanted to run but after the example with Alexander Cain, he dared not betray Parasite as that meant he would face a fate even worse than death.
He was desperate, and his lack of options to escape or even survive left him feeling like he was going mad.
In the end, he could only resist so much against a duo of veteran Cyber Gladiators.
8:22am.
Gary killed Swain!
The Cyber Gladiator's War Axe cut into the head of the Gene Augur, splitting his skull open and this time Swain could not heal.
He died with a resentful look on his face filled with pain.
And just like that, the couple of Cyber Gladiators were free to gang up on Cell.
Now, it was the trio of Mechanists plus the couple against Cell in a 5v1!
In the face of all 5 of his enemies, Cell showed no signs of fear even as he felt the shadow of death approaching. He didn't even contemplate running, he had the look of a man who already long accepted his death.
His piousness was not because of the fate that befell Alexander Cain, rather, it was because of his unflinching loyalty for his Lord.
Unlike the others, he was actually loyal to Parasite.
Bam… bam… bam…
As the powerful attacks from the Cyber Gladiators slowly carved his body apart and as the pain flooded his brain, Cell smiled like a mad man who reveled in pain and in that moment, his life started flashing in front of his eyes.
5 years ago… Abram Kevin met Parasite for the first time.
Then, he was not yet known as Cell.
Abram met the Lord in a time of his life when he was at his lowest in the Wastes. Then, he was just 17. He was an orphan, weak, bullied, and with no source of income or immediate relatives to seek help from.
He was destined to die a nameless death in the Wastes, unknown and forgotten.
Parasite met him and pulled him up. "Heh," he laughed. "Boy, do you know what it means to have power?"
"True power is intoxicating, true power is unyielding and dominating".
"What do you say, do you want it?"
On that day, he nodded timidly.
And on that day, Parasite gave him a blade and told him to kill his bullies.
Parasite taught him to kill his bullies, and that… that was perhaps the most memorable memory of his life.
8:25am.
Leon killed Cell, a well-placed shot that blasted his brains out.

…
8:25am.
The underground bunker of the Zmer gang.
After over 30 minutes since they arrived and started a great battle against the Zmer gang in their underground bunker, the rebels of Community G finally gained the upper hand over their enemies in the chaotic battle.
Bam… bam… bam…
The sound of gunfire filled the wasteland as the thugs made their stand for over 30 minutes, intending on annihilating them at first, then later settling for frightening them to retreat, but neither of their plans worked.
With all of the higher-ups of the Zmer gang absent, there was no one to lead the thugs into an organized assault of the daring rebels.
Besides, Parasite organized the assault team and directly left without telling the rest of his subordinates anything, so they were still kept in the dark about most of what was happening outside.
They were still celebrating the grand banquet when the rebels sneaked in on them and opened fire.
With Brad guiding the rebels through the drone, they were able to find a way to open the secret entrance door.
Not all of them entered though.
They were wary and careful. Afterall, they didn't know how many thugs were down there and if there were any traps.
So, to prevent unnecessary casualties, a few leaders among the rebels led a rapid assault team comprising 15 rebels underground.
Walking through the cold and metallic corridors of the underground bunker, they didn't need to search far because the grand banquet held by the thugs was loud, and underground, sound travels faster through solids like soil, rock, and metal than in the air.
This was a simple case of physics because sound particles are packed closer underground, allowing vibrations to transfer energy more efficiently though the exact speed depends on the material's density and stiffness.
And in this underground bunker, the sound traveled fast and far.
With the sound subtly directing them, they found the hall where the grand banquet was being held.
None of the thugs even realized that there were intruders.
Inside the hall, they saw the large but empty high-back chair that most likely belonged to Parasite, and the dozens of thugs in this hall who were having a blast, drinking beer till stupor while playing with women, some directly going at it there in the hall.
They had no shame, only a sense and yearning for pleasure.
None of the vanguard rebels recognized the women but they could tell immediately that they were part of the slaves that the Zmer gang kidnapped.
They were angry but they stayed calm and rational.
The 15 of them came up with an assault plan on the spot and focused on the thugs who were heavy drinkers in those areas of the hall with no women, and then they opened fire.
Tututututututu…!
By the time the thugs realized that something was wrong, more than a dozen of them were already killed!
And immediately, chaos erupted.
In the chaos, they managed to kill 8 more thugs before the thugs finally retaliated. The drunk state of the thugs played in their favor, but still, these were people that played with guns everyday unlike them.
The thugs retaliated and two of the rebels were killed.
The others retreated, luring the angry and drunk slaves back to the surface entrance where the other rebels already laid in ambush.
And when the thugs surfaced, a brief massacre occurred.
All the thugs that surfaced were annihilated, shot by the rebels who laid in ambush.
Only then did the thugs realize that something was wrong.
The survivors instantly retreated back underground but the angry mob followed them, igniting a chaotic and intense battle underground.
Almost two dozen of the rebels died despite the fact that their opponents were mostly drunk and unprepared but in exchange, they took the lives of almost a hundred thugs stationed in the underground bunker!
After that, all hell broke loose.
Without their leaders to coordinate them, the thugs lost their heads after losing so many of their comrades in this clash, and so they ran.
Only then did the rebels find out that there were multiple entrances to the underground bunker.
The thugs ran towards the two other known entrances to escape.
A few rebels pursued the escaping thugs while the others scoured the underground bunker in search of the slaves.
They found them after minutes of searching.
They were locked in the lower level of the underground bunker, kept in dark and dimly illuminated rooms where they were nurtured like lambs for slaughter.
The rebels also found the room filled with charred and roasted corpses of slaves who were burnt for a reason they couldn't yet understand.
"George!" A girl's voice called in shock.
"Lara?"
A brother had an emotional reunion with his younger sister as both collapsed in tears, and that was just the first.
Bittersweet reunions happened as girls rushed into the hands of their fathers and older siblings, while wives rushed into the hands of their husbands.
Children ran into the arms of their parents, but some just sat watching as they recognized no one, numb as the strangers who came to rescue them pulled them out of the underground rooms.
There were also those who embraced the cold corpse of their relatives who died in the clash against the thugs, crying tears of joy for being rescued but also tears of sorrow for losing a loved one.
It was a mess of emotions.
A middle-aged Geneform, Ralph, one of the leaders of the rebels didn't find his little daughter among the slaves that were saved and instinctively, he made the connection that she was part of those that were burnt to death.
This middle-aged man collapsed on his knees, crying like a baby with snot and tears as he mourned his daughter.
A few minutes later, he wiped his tears and picked up his gun again. With a look of murder on his face, he went after the escapee thugs.
Some experienced joy, others only saw gloom and sorrow, but the one connecting factor about all of them was that they finally saw an end to the story that was written by Audrey Ross, even though it was bittersweet.
