He selected the gamble, an option that was like gambling but with your eyes closed. An option that is was more likely to give him nothing than something.
Tatehan had selected: [Use all 54 cores for a Blind Chase.]
Something that felt like a scam!
The system responded immediately, but the words that appeared were nothing like what Tatehan had expected.
[You have taken a great risk.]
[You have comprehended madness.]
Tatehan's entire body went rigid.
Taken a great risk? Comprehended madness?
What the hell did that mean?
His mind raced, alarm flooding through him like ice water in his veins. It flooded through him like some dam had broken in him.
What had he just done? What had he just agreed to? The system had never said anything like this before, never used language like that, never framed anything in terms of madness or comprehension.
Was this bad? Had he made a mistake? Was something about to go horribly wrong?
"Shit," he muttered aloud, his voice tight with sudden fear.
He didn't know if he'd made the right choice. He'd been confident just moments ago, willing to take the gamble, but now doubt crashed over him like a wave. The system's words felt ominous, heavy with implications he didn't understand.
Had he just screwed himself over?
Another notification appeared.
[I never expected you to choose that.]
[I thought you'd play it safe.]
Tatehan stared at the words, his breath catching in his throat.
The system... hadn't expected him to choose the Blind Chase?
It had thought he'd play it safe? That he would take the guaranteed upgrade to Gravity Manipulation instead of gambling on the unknown?
And then the next line appeared, and Tatehan's world tilted.
[For taking a risk as immense as this, you have been granted an ability!]
Tatehan was so shocked he forgot to breathe.
What?
What was happening?
His mind struggled to process what he was reading. He'd been granted an ability? Not because of the Blind Chase itself, not because of the fifty-fifty gamble, but because he'd chosen to take the risk in the first place?
So... he'd actually gotten the ability because he took the risk?
Not in spite of it. Not through luck or randomness.
Because of IT!
Tatehan's thoughts spun, trying to piece together what this meant.
Had his system just tested him?
Had it been checking to see how he made decisions under pressure? How crucial and decisive his choices could be when faced with uncertainty? Whether he'd play it safe or push himself beyond his comfort zone?
Was this whole thing—the Blind Chase option, the fifty-fifty chance, the vague and ominous phrasing—was it all just a way to see if he'd actually have the guts to go for it?
Tatehan exhaled slowly, his shock giving way to something closer to disbelief.
His system had tested him. And he'd passed.
Another notification appeared, larger this time and more detailed.
[BLIND CHASE COMPLETE]
[NEW ABILITY ACQUIRED]
[Force Multiplication - Level 1]
[Type: Offensive Enhancement]
[Description: Any object thrown or launched by the user moves with 2x the normal force, dramatically increasing impact damage, penetration, and effective range. This ability transforms ordinary projectiles into devastating weapons and enhances existing ranged attacks to lethal levels.]
[Current Parameters:]
Force Multiplier: 2x baseline kinetic energy
Daily Uses: 4
Cooldown: Resets at dawn each day
Application: Thrown or launched objects only (does not apply to melee strikes or direct physical contact)
[Tactical Applications:]
Chakrams become armor-piercing projectiles capable of cutting through reinforced plating.
Improvised weapons (rocks, debris, scrap metal) become lethal high-velocity rounds
Enhanced throwing range and accuracy due to increased momentum
Synergizes with existing ranged combat tactics
[Limitations:]
Does NOT apply to punches, kicks, or melee strikes (physical contact negates the effect)
Object must leave the user's hand to activate the multiplier
Each activation consumes one daily charge regardless of object size or weight
Cannot be "stacked" or applied multiple times to the same throw
[Warning: Use sparingly. While powerful, this ability has limited daily charges. Strategic use is recommended.]
[Upgrades Available at Higher Levels:]
Level 5: Increase force multiplier to 5x
Level 10: Daily uses increased to 6
Level 15: Can now apply to melee strikes and unarmed attacks
Level 20: Force multiplier will increase to 10x
[Congratulations. You chose risk over certainty. You embraced madness over safety. This is your reward.]
Tatehan read through the entire description twice, his eyes moving over every word, every detail and every implication.
And then he read it a third time just to make sure he wasn't imagining it.
Force Multiplication…
Anything he threw would hit with three times the normal force.
His chakrams, already deadly weapons in his hands, would become devastating. Armor-piercing. Capable of cutting through reinforced plating like it was paper. He could throw one and it would strike with the force of two, the impact so powerful it would shatter bones, crack armor and tear through obstacles.
And it wasn't just his chakrams.
Rocks, debris, scrap metal. Anything he could pick up and throw would become a lethal projectile. A pebble would hit like a bullet. A chunk of concrete would hit like a cannonball.
Four times a day.
Four devastating, game-changing attacks that could turn the tide of a battle.
Tatehan's system interface updated, displaying his full status.
