Solar Ascension

Chapter 67: Another Round

Lorenne lifted Nox's corpse with glee.

"What should I start with?" She muttered, her excitement evident in her voice, "his limbs? His eyes? Or maybe....his heart.."

She held him up with her tail before ripping her claws out of his chest, taking his heart with it.

She looked at the still beating organ with a wide smile on her face as she moved Nox's body to the side with her tail.

"The Master was right," Lorenne said with a gleeful chuckle, "this is gold."

The organ, as ordinary as it looked was filled to the brim with SE. It felt as if the heart itself was constantly producing the energy...which it was.

"I wonder how many breakthroughs I'll get when I eat this," she muttered, "will I be strong enough to deserve standing by the master's side?"

If she was in her human form, one would spot a blush on her cheeks as she said those words.

"No use guessing," she muttered before bringing Nox's heart to her lips, "thanks for the food."

With that, she gulped the entire thing and its effects immediately started showing, for a few moments, it seemed that she was shattering into golden light as cracks appeared all over her.

"W-what is this?" She let out as SE filled her, it almost felt a bit too much but then she held on.

She couldn't let herself fail, not at this point, she couldn't disappoint the master, so she held on.

The cracks got worse by the second and only when she seemed on the brink of exploding, did they stop.

As quickly as they appeared, the cracks started receding, allowing her to stand straight and she immediately noticed that she was higher than before.

Rather than a change in her height, it was due to the fact that she was now floating inches above the ground.

She could feel it, the power filling her.

She moved her arms towards her face, clenching and unclenching her fist, just to get a feel for her strength.

"This is it," Lorenne said with a grin, "this is the power I needed to stand by master's side."

"I must thank yo—" She moved Nox's corpse towards her again only to realize that he was gone, and so was her tail.

"Hmm?" She let out in surprise as she looked below her, "aren't you supposed to be dead."

Standing on the forest floor with her tail in his remaining hand, was Nox.

Though Lorenne could both see and feel that something was different about him, because for one, his hair was now glowing golden and floating, as if unaffected by gravity.

His eyes were also producing a golden glow that filled his entire socket, but that wasn't the only thing different.

There now seemed to be a dangerous pressure being emitted from his being and Lorenne was sure that she would've been forced to her knees if it was before she ate his heart.

But her current form wasn't shaken, she felt like she was ready for even a monster like Lady Oracle.

Nox was just a mere bug.

"It doesn't matter," she said with a grin as she slowly descended to the forest floor, "if you're alive, then that means you'd have regenerated your heart right? Then that means I can harvest it again and again."

Nox said nothing in response, there wasn't even an expression on his face as he clenched his fist around the tail and it immediately went up in flames of golden light.

He then turned to his missing arm before a golden light appeared over the stump that was forming and took the shape of an arm.

Soon enough, flesh started growing over the golden light and a few seconds, his arm was good as new.

"Now that's new," Lorenne muttered before placing one of her four hands on her chin as she added, "then that just means I can eat you one part at a time and you'll just keep regenerating."

With that, she moved, leaving behind a massive a crater in her wake.

She moved so fast that even someone like Astra would have trouble tracking, and even if she could, it'll only be barely.

"Let's see if you can regenerate your head," Lorenne said as one of her arms were outstretched in front of her, "it'll be fun if you can."

Her clawed hand was aimed at Nox's head and from his lack of movement, it seemed even he couldn't track the creature's movements.

But just before she could grab his face, Lorenne jumped back, though it was a little too late.

Thud!

The arm aiming for Nox's head was now laying on the forest floor, releasing what seemed to be black blood before disintegrating.

Nox still stood where he previously was, but this time he had what looked like solid light in the shape of a sword in his hand.

Even Lorenne hadn't seen him move and she only jumped back because her instincts warned her to, else, her head would've rolled instead of just her arm.

But instead of fear, she suddenly started chuckling and with a simple shake, a new arm snapped in place of the cut one.

"This is a lot more fun," she said as the shadows around her started rising from the ground, "after all, a prey tastes a lot better when they fight back."

With that, spikes of shadows started rising from the ground, aiming directly for the still standing Nox.

Time seemed to slow down but the moment it resumed its normal flow, all the spikes disintegrated into thin air and Nox was standing a few meters away from where he previously was.

He suddenly spun around just in time to block a massive shadow scythe before slashing it into multiple pieces.

He jumped away before the shadow hands could grab him, but she had anticipated that and multiple shadow spikes from the trees directed themselves at him.

But just before they could skewer him, Nox disappeared reappearing on the forest floor.

"This is it," Lorenne said with a grin, "show me everything you're capable of little light!"
