At this moment, Dante had only one target.
Find the best path to reach the opportunity location. There were several tunnels, and he had to choose only one.
How was he originally supposed to find the location of the opportunity?
He was supposed to follow the arrows on the fortune side of Ruby's Wheel of Luck.
If Dante had the Fortune Aspect instead of the Misfortune Aspect, he could have figured out something to use Ruby's Wheel of Luck to find the best path.
But no.
Dante couldn't find the best path, he could only find the worst one. That was the nature of his aspect.
Whenever he used his misfortune coin, it was more like a process of elimination rather than finding the best one directly.
'But this can't be used anymore!' Dante's eyes were filled with determination: 'I made that spell before getting my class, and the World Runes had only improved it a little. I have to make something better.'
'I can't make a perfect misfortune spell, as luck itself is the concept of uncertainty. But I can only do my best!'
As these thoughts crossed his mind, he immediately began to rack his brain in search for a creative idea.
While thinking, Ruby kept waiting nervously next to him, confused by his sudden silence. During this time, the flower's light turned off, which forced Ruby to make another one.
Eventually, an idea formed in Dante's mind, so he ordered: "Ruby, don't make any movements."
"Y-yes!"
Immediately, Dante manipulated his mana and spiritual energy outside his body. The next second, a small compass with two arrows materialized in Dante's hand.
The compass was obsidian-black, but the arrows were different. They had the colors of Strength Luck and Wealth Luck.
The same as the arrows in Ruby's Wheel of Luck!
The next moment, Dante looked at the small amount of misfortune in Ruby's Wheel of Luck and cast another spell, making a black chain burst out of her misfortune and connected it to the compass.
The corners of Dante's lips curled upward as he saw his idea working. When the arrows began to move, Dante was confident that it was a great success!
"Did you make that compass with your shadows? What did it do before it disappeared?" Ruby suddenly asked.
"Wait, you can see the compass and the chain?" Dante frowned.
Ruby also frowned: "Was there a chain? I just saw the compass for a few seconds."
Hearing her answer, Dante's confusion grew even more.
'What determines whether something related to luck is seen or unseen? Even the coin could be seen by the others, but I thought that was a special case.'
After a few seconds of thinking—and ignoring Ruby—Dante came into a vague conclusion.
'Maybe because they're independent?'
The coin was an independent spell, like the swords that Dante made of his Shadow Aspect.
The same thing could be said about the compass in the first few seconds, but according to Ruby, the compass suddenly disappeared, which wasn't true, as it was still in Dante's hand.
The only theory Dante could think of was that the compass disappeared from Ruby's vision once it was connected to her Wheel of Luck and stopped being independent.
That theory would also explain why everything related to the Wheels of Luck was invisible to the others. Even a spell that used demonic energy like Demonic Jinx was invisible.
Of course, Dante would never consider himself the only being that could see them and start using Demonic Jinx in front of the others. The dark entity was proof that Dante wasn't so special.
"Anyway, just follow me for now. I have to confirm something." Dante ordered as he started moving toward a random tunnel, Ruby following closely behind him.
When he stood before the first tunnel, he saw that the arrows of the compass were pointing at the tunnel, as if something was pulling them there.
"That's not the right or the best path." Dante shook his head before moving to the next tunnel.
The mechanism of his new spell was actually pretty simple.
Ruby's fortune side had the arrows that led to the opportunity, which meant that his small misfortune side led to the opposite direction. And if the fortune side led to only one direction, then everything else was the opposite!
So, Dante decided to create his own arrows and connect them to her misfortune, then he'd only have to find the tunnel that would have the least attraction to the arrows.
Because of the design of the compass, it wouldn't lead upward or downward, making it more suitable for their current situation.
And because it was connected to Ruby's Wheel of Luck and had the strength luck and wealth luck, it was more accurate than the coin.
'And most importantly, it's pretty fast and simple! I only have to keep moving instead of counting the skulls of every possible tunnel, not to mention the cases where some tunnels would have the same amount of skulls. This one just depends on the pull force.'
Dante and Ruby moved in every direction with the compass on his hand. Whenever the arrows got pulled, then moved to the next to test them.
And eventually, Dante found a tunnel with no pull force at all.
When Dante stood before the tunnel, the arrows didn't even point at it. They were focused on the other nearest tunnel instead. And after seeing every other tunnel, Dante confirmed that it was the least affecting tunnel.
"That's the right path, let's go." Dante urged before taking the glowing flower from Ruby and moving into the tunnel.
For a moment, Ruby just looked at his back with a puzzled expression.
'What did he do exactly? How did he know?'
From her perception, Dante had simply walked around while holding something invisible and suddenly decided the best tunnel.
She already suspected that it was related to the "shadow" compass, but she wasn't stupid enough not to notice that Dante intentionally ignored her question.
'What's the point of hiding his abilities when I told him about mine? Hell, my ability might make the royal family itself come looking for me!'
Sighing in frustration, she dismissed these thoughts and followed Dante quietly.
