This explanation did make a lot of sense to Weiss. Even though she had no way to verify if Mathius was telling the truth or not, Weiss's intuition and judgment told her that he was most probably not lying.
His lying was separate from if his information was true or not. So there was possibility that Mathius himself was not awere of the truth, but that was not really something that Weiss needed to worry about.
So she calmed down and stopped thinking about different things. Instead she started asking Mathius various relevant questions regarding the Magus world.
Maybe because Weiss had already paid him a lot of money or maybe because he was in a good mood, this time Mathius started to answer everything without asking for any extra money.
As her funds were starting to run low, Weiss was actually happy about this matter. Or she would need to start taking out the medicines made from the materials of the Earth Overturning Great monster. That was something Weiss wanted to avoid.
...
Eventually Mathius even told Weiss that he had went to the magus world only once and had lived there for only a few months, not even a whole year.
And during that whole time, he was stuck in a city with 99 percent mortal population. There were less than ten Apprentice Magi living in this city.
Mathius regretfully confessed that he did not have the aptitude for magic. So there was no chance for him to rise in the magus world. So after finding a good backer there, he had returned back to his home world in order to work for his mistress and her family.
Mathius proudly also declared that this mistress of his was a magus apprentice who actually had a real magus as her master. So her chance of also becoming a magus was definitely not low.
While telling Weiss this, Mathius looked so proud that as if it was him who had a high chance of becoming a magus. From the looks of it, it seemed that Mathius was very fond of his current work and his employer.
Mathius also told Weiss about a few rumours that he had heard in the Magus world. They actually had no value as information as they were just rumours. But still Weiss was very interested in listening about them.
One of the rumours was about how a mighty magus and swang down a 1000 kilometres long sword and had split a whole continent in half. It sounded so absurd that no one sure if it was true or not.
After hearing this, Weiss started to think about what if this was actually a true incident. In that case, she needed to modify her own perception of the magi and their system.
In her mind, even if the system of the magi was better than the system of the knight, how much better could it be. 10 times better? 100 times better ? Weiss was not sure.
Even a Grand Knight could not spilt a village in half with his or her swords. So splitting a whole continent was such a big deal that Weiss was having a rough time even to wrap her mind around this concept.
There were more such outlandish stories but fortunately nothing as insane as splitting a continent in half. Creating fire and ice out of nowhere was something that was very much expected of a magus.
And there was also a story about how a magus had suddenly turned a desert into a forest. This was again something absurd. But compared to the feat of splitting the continent in half, it sounded tame and very much possible.
This way, this information transction suddenly turned into gossip session. Actually Mathius had very few chances of talking with someone who was actually aware of the magus world. That was why he was suddenly feeling so talkative.
Not just that but Weiss had actually paid him really well. His pockets were feeling a bit dry in the recent times, so Weiss's timely help to fill his pockets had also loosened his mouth quite a bit.
...
After talking for more than four hours, Weiss finally left. This discussion had been very very helpful to her. Before leaving, she had handed Mathius another holy coin to show her appreciation for him and to make future cooperation with him easier.
Mathius had already told her about how she could reach the ship from the magus world after 3 and half years.
But it would be compatitively easier for her to make this journey if an experienced guide was with her. And fortunately for Weiss, Mathius had agreed to be this guide for her.
So now she just needed to wait for a little over three years, and then she would be able to make a trip to the magus world. Just thinking about this was making Weiss's cold heart very excited.
So for the time being, Weiss's target was to reach the peak of the knight system before the 3 years time period was over. It was not going to be easy but this was definitely something possible with her extremely high talent and intelligence.
There was actually a reason why Weiss was putting so much importance on the system of the knights.
It was because Mathius had told her that he had came in contact with other incomplete power systems similar to the system of the knight in the magus world and he had found that when it came to direct combat power, the system of the knight was one of the best even among various other power systems that were present there.
So as Weiss had already done a fair bit of research on the system of the knight, she was planning to continue this with an wild ambition in her mind. This ambition was to extend the current limit of the path of a knight.
With so many scattered thoughts in her mind, Weiss met up with Elise outside the tavern and returned back to her inn in a very good mood. Finally Weiss had seen a bright light in her dark tunnel toward the world of the Magi.
