Godfire: The Split Soul

Chapter 151: Dirty Secret

The door clicked open with a soft, guilty sound.

Kai, who had been standing motionless at the base of the stair, watched as Jinx slipped inside. Jinx gently pushed the door shut, then exhaled sharply.

'Ahh, at least no one saw me,' she thought, then smiled. She stood there for a moment, breathing, her back against the door.

Kai's brows lifted when he saw her usual straight white hair messy, the strands sticking to her damp forehead and neck.

'Did she run through the rain?' Kai thought. His eyes widened, focusing on her makeup, which had turned into dark smudges around her eyes, the lipstick gone except for a faint, blurry stain.

Not only that, he marveled at the sleek black dress, which had wrinkled, twisted slightly around her body, giving her the look of someone who had been thoroughly wrecked.

A silent chuckle escaped from Kai.

Jinx froze when she saw him standing there. 'Oh, shit!' she screamed in her head, a sheepish grin spreading across her face.

She placed a finger on her lip in a shhh gesture, then laughed silently afterward.

Kai and Jinx stood there in the same posture for a second, leaving the refrigerator sound to hum from the kitchen.

Then, without a word, Jinx gave Kai a wobbly wink, turned, and padded on unsteady feet, climbed the stairs, and went straight into her room.

Kai stood there, without flinching, and watched her go just like that. The smile on his lips lingered until he heard the thud of her door closing with a loud slam.

"When will she ever go out at night and come home the same?" Kai whispered, shaking his head. He turned and made his way back to his room, Jinx's messy face still lingering in his thoughts.

Inside Jinx's room, she leaned heavily against the closed door, the cool wood sending signals through her skin.

Her head slammed into it softly. Thunk. As the images of the night replayed in her mind; the dim light, the rain against the windows, the feeling of the bedframe scraping the floor.

Lastly, the unbelievable cock stole her breath out. Even in her thoughts, she could feel it still doing its magic on her skin.

She closed her eyes, biting her lower lip, and breathing sluggishly.

Her eyes cracked open when slow footsteps passed in the hallway outside her door.

'Lena?' she thought, staying perfectly still, tuning her ears to the sound until the steps faded away. Then, she breathed heavily.

She turned frantically, fumbled with the lock on the door, and turned it with a sharp click.

She dashed forward into the bathroom and flicked the light on.

Inside Kai's room, he sat calmly on his bed when a distinct sound of another door opening struck his ears.

He stood up, walked toward his door, and cracked it open, then peered out. 'Oh, it's aunty,' he sighed, then focused on her.

She walked toward the kitchen, dressed in a simple silk robe. Kai dismissed the display his mind wanted him to have, his perception drifting to her thick body showing vividly in the silk.

He closed his door quietly, threw himself on the bed, and closed his eyes.

At exactly 7:00 AM, Kai's eyes snapped open. He lay still for a moment, staring at the ceiling, then shifted his gaze to the side of his bed, where the window was.

Higris and several other shadowy forms stood there. "Why are you all standing beside the bed like I'm a prisoner?" he said, frowning.

He followed the direction their limbs pointed to and sighed when he saw the morning birds flying high in the sky.

"Today's the day, then," he whispered to the empty room in a rough and sleepy voice. He sat up and swung his legs over the side of the bed.

"New atmosphere to think about." He ran his right hand through his black and blue hair, pushing it back from his face.

He pushed himself up and moved to the washroom. After ten minutes, he walked back to the room and stood before his wardrobe.

He brushed his fingers over the formal clothes Lena had bought him and selected simple dark jeans and a plain black long-sleeved shirt.

He wore it easily, grabbed his black hoodie, and exited the room. He stood by the hallway, stretched himself a bit, descended the staircase, and sat on the edge of the couch.

He placed the hoodie beside him and fixed his gaze at the staircase. "When am I supposed to report to the college? It's getting late," he said, and sighed.

After five minutes, another door opened and closed. Lena appeared, dressed in a sophisticated cream-colored dress that caught the morning light and shimmered faintly with every movement of her body.

She descended the stairs like a queen meeting her king and stopped beside the couch. She swept her gaze across the hall, scanned Kai's outfit, and frowned at the hoodie.

"Good morning," she said in a calm voice.

"Good morning, aunty Lena," Kai responded, standing on his feet.

Lena shifted her gaze toward the top of the stairs, the frown on her face increasing. "Where is Jinx?" She turned slightly toward Kai.

A faint smile appeared on Kai's lips. "She usually gets up by this same time, but I don't know why she hasn't."

"We need to leave soon. Go and check if she's in her room," Lena instructed, pointing her right arm toward the stairs.

Kai stood up and walked past her, low gasps exiting his closed mouth.

Meanwhile, in the pink-hued room upstairs, Jinx lay sprawled on her bed in a dead sleep. One arm of hers flung out to the side, the other curled near her head.

Her legs were splayed wide apart, like two identical poles of a magnet that had been forcefully repelled.

The sheets underneath her were tangled around her waist, and her face was clean of the night's smudges. It was pressed into the pillow.
