The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master

Chapter 406: The Most Beautiful Thing

Chapter 406: Chapter 406: The Most Beautiful Thing

Heath Wright said with a smile, "I imagine she’s even more refined-looking, with a truly exceptional aura."

"The way you describe her, she sounds like a goddess!" Shannon Quinn said, pursing her lips. "Does a woman that beautiful even exist?"

"I’ve always felt that only a goddess from the heavens could tame Direwolf," Scott Sullivan said with a long sigh. "This world is so unfair. We don’t even have girlfriends, and that bastard Direwolf already has a wife!"

His words struck a chord with the others. One by one, they all started cursing Nathaniel Nathan, hoping he’d end up completely henpecked so he could get a taste of being under someone’s thumb.

Everyone in The Phantom Unit was an elite, so it didn’t take much for them to guess the real reason Nathaniel Nathan stayed behind to track the drug traffickers. Yet, not a single one of them said it out loud. They all gave him a hard time, but deep down, they were all looking out for him.

Over the years, they had completed several missions together, forging the kind of deep bond shared by comrades-in-arms.

Vera Xavier had always been a light sleeper, so she woke up the moment Nathaniel Nathan came in. She had planned to pretend she was still asleep, but when the smell of the breakfast he’d brought wafted over, she immediately scrambled out of bed. Nathaniel Nathan’s lip twitched at the sight, but she pretended not to notice.

She wasn’t particularly concerned about Alistair Forrest. If she had to name any connection between them right now, it would only be the payment for the jade, which hadn’t fully transferred to her account yet.

She calculated the timing. The money would arrive tomorrow morning, not today as Alistair Forrest had just claimed. After all, the transaction had taken place late last night.

Yesterday, she’d first had a battle of wits with Susan Caldwell, using her X-ray vision until her eyes ached. Then, she’d spent all night placating Nathaniel Nathan. Now that she finally had a moment to relax, she realized she was dead tired. So, she tossed her bowl aside and flopped back onto the bed to sleep.

She probably hadn’t even realized it herself, but she felt an indescribable sense of trust and security with Nathaniel Nathan. When he was by her side, she felt she could just be a simple Vera, without having to worry about the schemes of those with ulterior motives.

With her mind at peace, she was naturally able to sleep soundly. No one disturbed her, and she slept for the better part of the afternoon.

Meanwhile, Nathaniel Nathan sat in the room, reading a book. He cherished these moments with her—so quiet and wonderful.

He had spent years carrying out one mission after another, rarely experiencing such peaceful and beautiful moments.

He’d once read the saying, "A beauty’s tears are a hero’s tomb," but he had never quite understood it. Before meeting her, he thought all girls were the same—impossibly troublesome, crying at the drop of a hat, and incredibly spoiled.

After meeting her, he finally understood what it meant. The moment she cried, he lost all power to resist; he would compromise on anything.

Her sleeping posture was far from graceful. Perhaps because she was fully relaxed in her sleep, she was sprawled out on the bed like a starfish. A small smile played on his lips.

Watching over her like this felt like the most wonderful thing in the world.

But there are always clueless people in this world to shatter the peaceful bliss. There was another knock at the door.

Nathaniel Nathan’s brow furrowed. He glanced over at Vera, who was also frowning in her sleep. He decided to get up and teach the tactless person knocking on the door a lesson.

When Nathaniel Nathan opened the door, he found Alistair Forrest still standing there. Nathaniel’s gaze instantly turned colder, but Young Master Forrest was exceptionally thick-skinned. He grinned and said, "I’m not here for you. I came to see Honey!"
