Chapter 427: Chapter 427: Outrageous
Vera saw that while Nathaniel Nathan was still maintaining his poker face, the frostiness in his eyes had vanished. Based on what she knew about him since her rebirth, she could tell he was actually in a very good mood.
His good mood meant he was satisfied with how she had just handled things.
So, with a mischievous glint in her eyes, she linked her arm through his and asked, "So, how did I do back there?"
Nathaniel Nathan looked at her lovely, fair face, meeting her sparkling gaze. He glanced down at her arm linked with his and found this side of her absolutely adorable, as if she weren’t the same person who had been setting him up just moments before.
He tried to keep his expression stern, but a smile he couldn’t suppress tugged at the corners of his lips. Then, in a deliberately nonchalant tone, he said, "It was just okay. Plenty of room for improvement."
Vera pouted. ’Could he be any more contrary?’
The answer, it turned out, was no, because a certain someone could no longer control his true feelings. He swept her up and slung her over his shoulder.
Vera yelped in surprise. By the time she snapped out of it, she found herself slung over his shoulder.
The hotel wasn’t very crowded, but in a place like the hallway, someone could emerge from their room at any second.
In the early 1990s, an act like Nathaniel’s was positively scandalous. If anyone saw them, Vera figured her reputation would be utterly ruined.
Vera reached out to pat his shoulder, whispering, "Nathaniel Nathan, put me down!"
Of course, Nathaniel wouldn’t listen to her in a situation like this. Now that she was on his shoulder, she couldn’t see his face, so he no longer bothered to hide his smile. His once cool and aloof demeanor seemed to melt away, and he was so happy he felt like he could fly.
Vera smacked his shoulder a couple more times. "Let go!"
Nathaniel, however, gave her rear a light pat. "Stop squirming."
Vera was on the verge of tears from frustration. ’Damn it! Where does he think he’s touching?!’
Suddenly, the door to a nearby room swung open. Aaron Cheney and Jack Judd were standing in the doorway. Neither had expected to see such a sight upon opening the door. They stood frozen to the spot, utterly dumbfounded.
They both wore the exact same expression: eyes as round as saucers, mouths agape, looking completely shell-shocked.
The moment Vera saw their faces, she felt whatever was left of her reputation in this life had just been utterly destroyed by Nathaniel Nathan.
The smile vanished from Nathaniel’s face as he shot the two men a cold glare. They immediately scurried back into their room, shutting the door while yelling, "I didn’t see anything!"
Vera was left speechless.
’Talk about protesting too much...’
She figured that since she was already thoroughly embarrassed, there was no point in struggling anymore. So she simply let her body go limp over Nathaniel’s shoulder.
Nathaniel chuckled, carried her back to the room, and gently placed her on the bed. Then he pounced on her and kissed her.
She was still fuming, so the moment he leaned in, she bit him—hard. He simply watched her, silent.
A hint of amusement lingered in his eyes. He wasn’t the least bit upset that she had bitten him. In fact, if she had been as meek as a lamb and hadn’t dared to resist, she wouldn’t be herself.
Vera had meant to bite him hard enough to teach him a lesson, to make him never dare to mess with her like that again. But the moment she saw the look in his eyes, her heart softened. She let go and said, "Don’t you dare do something like that again without my permission!"
