Chapter 430: Chapter 430: Bitten by My Wife
When Vera Xavier saw the look on Susan Caldwell’s face, the corners of her mouth lifted into a slight smile. She just loved seeing Susan look so unsettled.
So she stood up, a bright smile on her face, and patted Susan Caldwell’s shoulder. "Just a friendly reminder," she said. "I’m a creditor who always keeps her word. No matter who owes me, I always come to collect when the time is up. So you’d better get ready!"
A storm raged in Susan Caldwell’s heart, but she forced herself to remain calm. She even managed to squeeze out a smile. "I don’t like owing people either. I’ll be waiting for you to collect."
Vera Xavier smiled back. "Excellent!"
Susan Caldwell turned to Skylar Crowe and the others. "We’re leaving!"
Leo Wright shot a worried glance at Susan Caldwell, then turned to look at Nathaniel Nathan, who had remained silent the entire time. He then quietly fell into step behind Susan.
Skylar Crowe, still fuming, muttered a few curses while Irene Jensen held her up, but she didn’t dare to raise her voice.
Alistair Forrest let out a wicked laugh. He loved this kind of spectacle. His Honey was just brilliant—every word a polished gem.
The group hadn’t even reached the door when Aaron Cheney noticed the cut at the corner of Nathaniel Nathan’s mouth. "Bro," he asked casually, "how’d you cut your lip? It’s already scabbed over. Did you bite it or something?"
Nathaniel Nathan said blandly, "My wife said that if anyone asks how I hurt my lip, I’m supposed to say I accidentally bit it."
At his words, the breakfast shop fell completely silent.
Vera Xavier was so mortified she wished the ground would swallow her whole. ’He’s not stupid, so why would he repeat everything she said? He’s definitely doing this on purpose!’
Alistair Forrest, who had been thoroughly enjoying the spectacle, felt like he’d just taken a series of critical hits. It was as if his entire HP bar had been depleted in one go. He clutched his chest. "That’s just brutal! Utterly savage! Every word is a knife to the heart!"
Even Susan Caldwell, who was already outside, couldn’t help but glance back at Nathaniel Nathan upon hearing that. There was, indeed, a scab on his thin lips. A wound like that could only have come from a bite.
In that moment, any secret feelings she harbored for Nathaniel Nathan became painfully clear, because a sharp pang of jealousy shot through her heart.
She forced herself to look away and strode forward.
Skylar Crowe started cursing. "Shameless! She’s so young and already knows how to seduce men!"
Jack Judd immediately shot back, "What do you mean ’so young’? My sister-in-law is eighteen—a legal adult! I’d say you’re just jealous that she has my bro to dote on her, while a vicious, unreasonable shrew like you has no one. You’re just bitter, aren’t you!"
Skylar Crowe trembled with rage, pointing at Jack Judd, too stunned to even get a single curse out.
When it came to arguing, Skylar Crowe could hold her own, but she was no match for someone like Jack Judd, a veteran hooligan who had been running with thugs since he was a kid.
Her refined upbringing prevented her from stooping to truly foul language. Jack Judd, on the other hand, could sit there all day spewing an endless, creative stream of profanities.
Susan Caldwell could already tell Skylar was no match for Jack Judd in a shouting match. "Skylar," she said softly, "we have more class than this. Don’t stoop to his level."
Irene Jensen, however, glanced back at Vera Xavier and Nathaniel Nathan. Vera’s face was tinged with a faint blush, while Nathaniel remained completely deadpan, as if his earlier comment had been as mundane as saying, "Nice weather today."
