Chapter 588: Chapter 588: Training Begins (4)

Fiona Wright chimed in, "Then, for some reason, I heard that the girl giving the speech as the freshman representative ended up being someone named Susan Caldwell."

"Susan Caldwell? It’s no big deal, just a minor thing," Vera Xavier said with a faint smile. She wasn’t very interested in being in the spotlight.

Shirley Ewing said with a laugh, "You’re so nonchalant. How is this a ’minor thing’? You have no idea how many people would kill to be in the spotlight like that!"

Fiona Wright countered, "Vera’s the one who got a perfect score in every subject. Why would she care about something so trivial? Personally, I think having to prepare and give a speech is too much of a headache. I’d rather just get a good night’s sleep in the dorm."

"If you keep sleeping, you’re going to turn into a pig!" Shirley Ewing made a face at her. The two of them had been inseparable for the past two days and had grown close enough to exchange some harmless banter.

Fiona Wright, who was a bit chubby, was likely used to such comments. She replied with a look of complete indifference, "So what if I’m a pig? Every part of a pig is a treasure!"

Shirley Ewing stared blankly for a moment before bursting into laughter. Vera Xavier and Fiona Wright laughed along with her, and the whole dorm room was instantly filled with merriment.

In both her past and present lives, this was the first time Vera Xavier had ever lived in a dorm. The room was filled with the girls’ youthful energy, and life itself seemed to have brightened.

She glanced at Laura White, who was lying on her bed. Laura wasn’t laughing, but a small smile played on her lips.

Vera Xavier’s mood brightened considerably, and she found herself eagerly looking forward to her four years of college.

Meanwhile, in another dorm room, Susan Caldwell was also laughing with her roommates. They were all showering her with praise for her grades, her capabilities, and her beautiful appearance.

Susan Caldwell acted slightly embarrassed by all the praise. "I’m not as amazing as you all say," she said with a smile. "Getting to represent the freshmen on stage was just a decision made by the university’s leadership."

In truth, she was gloating internally. When she had arrived at campus early that morning, she had coincidentally run into an administrator who was looking for Vera Xavier. Since Vera wasn’t around, she had immediately gone up to greet the administrator.

She was a natural socialite, so her greeting was impeccably smooth. The administrator, thinking she was quite impressive as well, began asking about her.

So, she smiled as she introduced herself, then subtly mentioned her connection to Julian Caldwell. The administrator was taken aback.

When he then checked her grades, he found that she was the top scorer from the city of Veridia. Seeing as Vera Xavier still hadn’t arrived on campus, he made the decisive call to have Susan Caldwell speak as the freshman representative at Briarwood University.

Once the decision was made, Susan Caldwell was quite smug, feeling she had finally gotten one over on Vera Xavier.

This made her all the more certain that Veridia University was her home turf, and Vera Xavier would be kept firmly under her thumb.

"That’s because you’re exceptional enough for the administration to pick you as the representative," a roommate said with a smile. In reality, she’d already heard that Susan Caldwell had connections; otherwise, there was no way she could have stolen the spot from Vera Xavier.

It’s just that at the moment, nobody knew the full story or the exact nature of Susan Caldwell’s connections.

Susan Caldwell smiled faintly, about to offer a few more words of false modesty, when another roommate interjected, "Honestly, it’s not that big a deal. Susan, you’re excellent, of course, but that Vera Xavier is amazing too. I heard she got in with a perfect score on every subject."
